I love all the girls, okay?! I mean how can you not?!

But can I talk about a Mira for a second? Because like imagine if this movie was out like 10 or 5 years ago and how much would be different? Especially the girls and their characters.

Honestly when the movie started I thought they would go for the same trope as the power puff girls with each of them having one character trait that they use throught the movie. I mean even their backstory would fit and work for that.

But man was it different.

From the start Mira was a lot more than the stoic, sarcastic archetype that I feared she would be. She is funny, girly, loves their fans as much as other girls and more importantly loves her girls so much. And she doesn't hide it. It isn't some secret, she isn't being mean, making sarcastic jokes or creating tension out of thin air. No she loves them and neither Rumi nor Zoey question it. Nobody who watched the movie would say oh there is main character, cute bubbly character and one who loves their group but is too afraid to show it. NO! Mira shows it!

And how she shows it? In the second half of the movie she is reaching out to Rumi to figure out what's wrong. Multiple times. She tries and fails. And isn't that great how the movie doesn't use Zoey as a bridge between girls just because? Isn't that great how writers give all the girls personality and traits and humanize them and treats them with as much care and respect as they do Rumi and Jinu.

Anyway thanks everyone who worked for such a project. Thank you writers for creating a movie about these three instead of just Rumi and Jinu ( which is the case so much). And oh I have so much more to discuss but this post is too long already.

i love to imagine the kind of bilingual shenanigans that first happened when Zoey got to Korea and met the girls and was fully immersed in a country that's all in Korean

she grew up speaking Korean at home, but i can imagine English is what she spoke the most when just being out and about in Burbank so that's just what she was most comfortable with in more social situations that didn't involve her family

so when she first got to Korea and started hanging out with the girls, she'll be explaining something while very excited and just forget that they don't speak English. and she's just going on and on until she looks at their faces and the utter lack of comprehension she finds there is what makes her realize they aren't catching anything

or Mira will ask her a question and she responds completely in English without thinking about it and Mira's just like "Zoey. babes."

of course, after the multiple years of being in the group, it happens less and less (she still mainly raps in English bc she's just quicker at it with the added bonus of it sounding cool) but now she just does the thing where she forgets a word or a whole phrase in Korean and just says it in English

"hey, Mir, can you get me the (word in English) from my bathroom?"

"...get the what from your bathroom?"

"the (in English again)...uh, blow...hair."

"(in Korean) you mean the hair dryer?"

"(in Korean) YES, THE HAIR DRYER."

eventually they get to a point where Mira and Rumi have heard Zoey speak English enough to where they're just kinda able to figure out what she's saying based off context but they have no actual grasp of the words

she'll count in English bc it's just quicker for her

and all the USAmerican idioms that just don't translate well into another language

Rumi walks into the studio

"hey, Zoey, what's wrong?"

"it's this song, it's so frustrating. i feel like i'm running around like a headless chicken."

"headless...HUH?"

"running around like a headless chicken..."

"?!?"

"i can't figure out what to do next."

"oh...that's such a weird way to say that, what the hell?"

Helluva Boss isn’t for everyone, and that’s cool. There are certainly things we’d all do differently if we were on the writing / design team. But it’s downright rude to tear someone’s design to pieces, redraw it, and claim it has been “fixed,” especially on content you’re receiving for free!

Imagine spending countless hours creating a story, posting it online, and (regardless of making profit or not), getting told “here’s a better way to write this crappy chapter” and someone just wasting their time rewriting it for you but without your voice or any of your ideas.

EDIT: since some seem to think I was referring to simple fan works or revising ideas in cool, transformative ways, that’s totally not what the post is about. This is for people, who within any fandom, post a really mean, scathing “criticism” of something, such as “fixing this shitty, atrocious eyesore of a character!” And redoing the whole design to be petty. The first rule of constructive criticism, literally the first word, is “constructive.” It too is an art, and if you don’t know that, you’re not being a critic. You’re being a bully. I don’t believe anyone would feel good being told their art is crap, horrid, ugly, etc. You can make a rework of a design in a kind, considerate way too …

My favorite thing about Kakegurui is the implications to the world the Tower of Doors has.

Pretty much all of the nonsense in the series can be accomplished with regular gambling and AV equipment. But Kirari had to contract a construction company and tell them that she wanted a five story tall rotating escape room tower built with a field of lilies planted around it. Somewhere out there, there’s an engineer looking for work, going into interviews, getting asked “What was the last project you worked on” and they slap some blueprints on the table and start yelling “Check out this shit! It’s fucking wild!”

Kakeguguri is a ridiculous series, but the Tower of Doors is the peak of it’s lunacy.

I know a ton of people have said this before but for the love everything PLEASE stop treating AO3 like instagram. It is NOT cringe to comment on an old story. It’s an archive old stories are still meant to be found and read. Please think about interacting with the fic you read: at least kudos if you read it, a comment would be ideal. The authors will be over the moon. I guarantee you not a single author is going to ask why someone is commenting on an older fic.
