Inktober day 9, the magic bird
Of course this one is day 9, it’s my favourite. I went with a blue bird and I based it on the most beautiful birds I know.

I never get tired of watching these Steller’s Jays prepare for winter is so much fun. They show up to the bird table, stuff as many peanuts and sunflower seeds as they can fit into their crop. Then, they find places to hide them. Most of the time, it’s under a bush, in the ground, or somewhere else that will keep it dry through the winter rain storms. But, as they adapt to the suburbs, they cache their food under roof shingles, in gardens, and any spot they can stuff a peanut that has even a remote chance staying dry.

“BUY THE ORANGE JUICE WITHOUT PULP. THAT SHIT IS DISGUSTING”
The ghost that’s been haunting your house for the last 5 years finally gets their shit together and stops breaking stuff to show you it’s upset. You just got out of the shower and find a written explanation on the mirror.

Pacific Rim Uprising Review
Pacific Rim 2: The return of Godzilla and Mecha
I watched the first Pacific Rim film as an afterthought; I was tired during a long flight and it was the only remotely interesting film the plane was offering. Pacific Rim was made for a giant screen with as much noise as possible so I will not judge the first one from my experience. However, I did watch its sequel as it was intended: with enough noise that I couldn’t hear my own thoughts and in a packed cinema full of sweaty children. And trust me, I loved every second of it.
Uprising had fantastical visual effects, but at this point, that is expected from any big budget film out there. However, what Uprising did is that it also merged a good costume and makeup department to their visual effects. Are the giant robots and monsters cool? Hell yeah! But when I sit down to watch the new Robot V Monster movie, I am expecting so much more than cool moves and the destruction of Tokyo. The costume department did a great job; every piece of wardrobe told us something about the characters in a way that some movies are forgetting. As a large amount of the movie was in a militaristic setting, it is easy to lose character under all the identical uniforms. Uprising managed to rise above that and show enough difference in the uniformity, and enough uniformity in their differences that everything merged in excellent characterization which didn’t betray the setting.
The characters were cool, but there were too many for me to care about all of them. That was certainly a problem at the end of the film where it was hard to care about the cannon fodder of characters that were fighting next to the characters we actually cared about. However, I did like our protagonists and their relationships between them. John Boyega and Cailee Spaeny had a great dynamic which brought a lot to their characters. But above all else, I loved Jing Tian’s character; and how our perception of her changed throughout the film. Her drive and intelligence, which we feared at the start of the film, where what we ended up applauding. Tian has been disappointing on some of her previous works, but I quite liked her acting in Uprising.
As for the plot, it is a movie of giant robots fighting giant monsters. I liked the story, but yeah, it is still an action movie about fighting giant alien monsters. You don’t really need to watch the first one to understand it, but you might enjoy it more if you knew the context of multiple plot points.
For the action film it is, I liked it. It is not particularly brilliant nor funny, but it is entertaining and a good way to unwind.
