Gut Feeling
There are days when the birth of a thought or an idea makes you feel better already.
While other leading events may not have yet formed, this new existence - in a space previously unoccupied - is called progress.
If your body can relax, even a little, with this birth, this thought, this idea, lean in. Lean fully in.

Late bloomer
Certain petals burst in August,
when others’ leaves are well and green,
while trees begin to pop in color -
end of summer begs to be seen.

When I’m craving nostalgia
I order butter pecan at the scoopery, bake delicious desserts using Grandma’s old recipes.
I lick the caramel portion of a crème-filled cake preferred by Mom although I like buttery lemon.
Extra slow, I’ll sip a chocolate malt like Dad mastered long ago.
Doritos are orange and Paul.
Hot sauce is Mike.
Once in a while, I dip into someone else’s favorite, in attempt to experience the world through their senses,
to feel they’re in the same space with me again, like how we used to gather at the table
after work and school and play
and all.

Another Spring Haiku
Jackets on and off,
a spotted rabbit jump-hops,
as does the weather.

What is love?
Is it a warm kiss on a cold night?
Flowers for every occasion?
Star-crossed fate shimmering in the moonlight?
Friendship standing the test of time?
A helping hand, holding hands, attributes that go hand in hand?
An answer to a burning question, perhaps.
Maybe it’s not leaving someone alone when they’re not all right.
Or, leaving them when they need space and you being all right with that.
Imagine it lives in a laugh or a tear, silence when you’re unsure what to say.
Maybe it’s prepping a remedy when someone’s in pain.
Placing a phone call, responding to a text.
Watching a sunrise.
Applying sunscreen.
Opening a sunroof.
Catching a sunset.
Saying,
“I do.”
Then,
asking,
“Do you?”

Six Spring Haiku
I. Helicopters glide; soundless, one crashes my porch, no pilot injured.
II. Little boys giggle passing back and forth sister’s strawberry lip gloss.
III. Wet winds blow hard, too heavy to stay silent, like some secrets.
IV. ROY G. BIV - rainbow. Roses - red; violets - blue. What color are you?
V. Their bells ring silent, though their floral scent is pure all through the valley.
VI. And when a bird sings, do others stop to listen? Simply for pleasure?

Neighborhood walk
Backyards line neighborhood streets like bold outlines shape images of coloring book pages. Sometimes, you find a dotted sliver line, and inside, a pair of Adirondak chairs, a quaint table, a swing. If your timing is especially right as you color, you may catch an extended, transparent bubble popping out of a heavy red line with the head of a fluffy, curious dog saying hello. Some yards are both inside the lines and out, like one man’s garden covering every inch of his property, you’d assume he owns a floral shop or sells to a local florist. In his yard alone, an entire box of crayon hues: lavender and fuchsia, maroon, cocoa, periwinkle, lime, daisy, rose, licorice, lawn, sunshine, and sky.

Travel brochure
The adventure was printed on exquisite paper so exceptionally smooth, I am not sure I wanted to go to Northern Ireland more or to stay put, rubbing the brochure with eyes closed, although the retreat does sound like something everyone should do at least once a lifetime. Lakeside cottage. Yoga. Meditation. New friends. Nature. Stars. Brunch, snacks and dinner included. Some trips should not be reserved just for times of burnout, to regain energy. There are those such as Ireland you should explore when you are feeling tranquil as an advertisement itself. May 13 - Caroline Wright

Coffee Club
Step into Moonwalk’s Café and you notice them. They are hard to miss. A vanilla latte reading a latest bestseller, triple espresso on its last stretch of final exams, Matcha tea awaiting an energy burst before its acoustic debut, decaf mochaccino kick-starting her self-care routine while expecting her first child, iced coffee on its way to greet out-of-state in-laws, cappuccino—beneath its legs, a line of shopping bags from high-end boutiques. Meanwhile, cups of black coffee hustle to keep up with ambient local personalities. May 10 - Caroline Wright

Spring sing-along
In alphabetical order, petals pop in southeast Michigan: Geraniums, Impatiens, Marigolds, Pansies, Petunias; gardeners gracefully hum, next time, won’t you sing with me.

Changing Times
There comes a time when you may not be able to pinpoint what is changing exactly, though you can feel a difference in the air. Some shift. Like the wind picks up and with it carries new possibility once absent or in hiding. I hope in these moments you inhale a deep breath, take in the atmosphere around you and go along, so you can experience earthly renewal as it was originally intended, just for you.
