tbh in retrospect i think bucktommy was the funniest relationship in the show. two grown men spend six months dating each other because they both really want to fuck some other guy but can't admit that this is the guy they'd rather be dating. the kind of behavior you might expect from like. the only two queer teens in a bigoted small town. not two men in los fucking angeles with whole ass careers. and mind you the whole time said other guy is completely unaware that this is going on and is just kinda thinking "my best friend and his boyfriend :) time to hang out with my best friend and his boyfriend :)" while carrying out an emotional affair with the doppelganger of his dead wife that will unbeknownst to him result in him spending a month living in el paso working as an uber driver.

Imagine loving a guy so much you almost kill yourself to find his baby boy in a tsunami, you claw at the earth when you think you've lost him forever, you crawl under a fire truck to drag his bleeding body to safety with an actual sniper shooting your way, you accept the fact he put you down as his boy's legal guardian in case he dies with barely a protest, you agonise when he quits being your job partner, you take said son to the zoo all the time, you get jealous like a dog pissing on a tree when he has a new friend, you're there when he begs you to fix something you can't fix and you can only hold on to his shoulder to try and shoot the pain, you go to him the second some ugly man dumps you, you throw a hissy fit about him leaving to Texas and sabotage his house showing, and then, you cave. You cave and you give up your housing situation to help him, you move into his house and you let him go. You let him go because you love him that much.
And he looks at you like you set his world on fire and built it back anew, and you hope he looks through the rearview as he drives away, hoping he'll miss you half as much as you'll miss him.
He will. You were struck by the same lightning, you'll forever share a heartbeat.

genuinely I can't stop laughing at the fact that it's a canon buddie dynamic that eddie just goes around doing vaguely evil and illegal shit and buck follows him going surely this is all perfectly legally sound because eddie - my eddie, the paragon of goodness with a silver star - would never do anything illegal. but then again what else could I have expected from buck 'follows eddie diaz into what he suspects is a mob establishment with zero questions' buckley

Sometimes I think about "Buck takes Christopher [to the zoo] all the time, basically has the place memorized" and I'm like Eddie why don't you go with them when they go to the zoo? And then I remember this line happens just after Eddie has recovered from the shooting and I picture Eddie for weeks (months?) recovering from the bullet wound, in pain, miserable, probably coming back from physiotherapy appointments exhausted hurting and just wanting to cry but he always stays strong for his son - he cannot let Christopher see him break down or be hurt - so he toughs it out and pretends he is fine but Buck sees all this and every week is like let's go to the zoo so your dad can take a nap and they go and look at the giraffes while Eddie breaks and cries and heals cause when he's alone he doesn't have to pretend or perform and he truly rests, enough that when they get back from the zoo, sun kissed and clutching animal stuffies he's awake enough to really listen to their day, smile at their stories and offer Buck that look of gratitude that he's been giving him for years and I'm like thanks for taking care of Eddie, Buck. Somebody has to.

rewatched the roof rescue scene from 8x18 and I’ll say this:
the writers might not write Buddie canon
the show runner might not show Buddie canon
but Ryan and Oliver seem hell bent to act Buddie canon
and for that, I thank them

With time to reflect, what I'm annoyed at is the wasted opportunities.
You had one character leave when they didn't want to and a pining arc. Wasted.
I have shaved my moustache because I choose joy and also I'm not wearing pants and you just broke up with your boyfriend and you're on my couch with me. Wasted.
Please help me reconcile with my kid because I don't know what I'd do without you. Wasted.
Your ex was jealous of your best friend, almost like he has something to be concerned about to the point your sister wasn't even sure... Wasted.
I live in my best friend's house and have sex in his old bedroom. Wasted.
We lost our captain and mentor, greif makes people cling to each other for solace or make rash decisions so maybe we can cling to each other. Wasted.
You brought your son back to cheer me up after we had a super married argument but we fight like this because deep down we care so much about each other. Wasted.
Even my aunt can see how much I love you. Wasted.
My kid can see how much I missed you and love you. Wasted.
I'm leaving but you're in danger and I can't let anything happen to you. Wasted.
Omg we're alive and I love you. Wasted.
I'm not leaving because I love you. Wasted.
You should stay in this house with us because I love you and you belong here anyway. Wasted.
I'm pissed because they set themselves up for allll the possibilities and wasted all of them. And now if they do buddie canon? It will feel shoehorned in. They have played their romantic arc all the way to this point and given us Nada. There is no where to go from here that won't feel like... 'but they've been here before and weren't in love so why now?'
Squandered potential. Bad writing. Frustrating as fuck. Fanfic writers would NEVER.

I actually think the biggest issue of this season was that 8a didn't have a whole lot of direction/overarching storyline, while 8b tried too hard to be its own full season with only half the number of episodes. 8a created a lot of loose threads between all of the characters, left a lot of stories in individual episodes that should have at the very least been relevant in the episodes after it. 8b on the other hand had so many storylines that lasted two to three episodes, but most of those storylines struggled to connect with each other because there simply wasn't the time to build in everything that happened in 8b's 10 episodes without having to jump around in time so frequently that it became disjointed. This season's biggest struggle, and ultimately what made it feel so rushed, was the failure to pace arcs between the two halves of the season. Many of the plots in 8a could have occurred in less episodes than they did, especially the Hotshots/Brad storyline, and Eddie could have gone to El Paso earlier in the season to give the arc time to roll itself out. 8b needed more episodes than it had to properly tell the number of stories they wanted to tell, and because of that, it felt largely disjointed after its first two episodes. This season simply struggled with pacing, and I think that's where the finale had the most shortcomings. The episode had so much good in it, but the ending felt so rushed and montaged because they ran out of time to show everything they needed to for what they want to do in season 9 - whatever that is.

So we got:
“You did that for me”
“It’s not nothing”
“You do matter to me”
“Now that the competitions out of the way”
“It wouldn’t be so crazy”
“I thought I said I was going to get the groceries”
“I heard some dick was mean to you”
And more…
ONLY FOR BUCK TO MOVE OUT OF THE GODDAMN HOUSE

Look, we all knew they were naming their son after Bobby (I wasn't expecting the FULL name, but still), so I'm not surprised. And I understand ending on the "Hello Bobby" line. I get it. But I still feel weird about having a brand new character they're calling Bobby now, so can we all agree that he's one of those kids who guys by his middle name? Nash Han?
