TW: BLOOD, VIOLENCE, DEATH (READ WITH CAUTION)
As soon as the news hit that Alara was found dead, Carter knew who had done it. He knew that this wasn't anything random, this was the work of the man he left in charge. This was Harrison. It didn't take much for Carter to plan his escape out of the prison, no one took him seriously there. He was merely just the idiot who followed his girl like a lovesick puppy, he was never any real threat.
His first step outside of those walls was meet with an evil grin as he was meet by his long-time best friend, Izzy. They had been partners in crime ever since he had moved to this town. Izzy was always someone he could trust, so when he decided that Harrison had to die, Izzy was the one who had his back even if it meant betraying Izzys Shadow partner now.
All leading up to the day of, the day that Carter would send Harrison to the same place he sent the love of his life. Pulling the hat down to cover his face as he shoved his way through the crowd at La Vela, he couldn't help but laugh quietly to himself as everyone was too absorbed in their own drama to realize an old friend was back in town.
Pulling the cap off his head as he entered through the now opened door, he tossed it to the ground beside him. "Thanks for that welcome, buddy." He tapped the side of Izzys cheek with his palm with a smile, turning to focus directly on Harrison as he walked in closer. "Someone has been a naughty boy, haven't we Harrison?" The same smile still stuck to his face as though he had officially lost his mind.
"You killed her. You took her from me WHEN THAT WAS NEVER THE PLAN! You were to leave the people I told you to leave alone and everyone else was free to die, but you just couldn't listen, could you?" His voice growing louder the closer to the other he got. His movement to grab the knife out of the back of his pants was quicker than Harrison would have time to react. It moved so smoothly across Harrisons neck that Carter had to savor the moment for a second when he had finished it. Holding the other up as the blood started to spew.
He continued to hold Harrisons head with his hands, the knife still in his hand, he looked softly into the eyes of the other. Watching the life drain from his eyes, he placed a kiss to his forehead. "Tell her I love her when you get there." Dropping him completely to the ground, titling his head as he watched the blood pool onto the floor. "What a mess." He chuckled, hopping up onto the desk where he kept staring at Harrison while twirling the knife in his hands.
"Thanks for this, Iz." He finally ripped his eyes away from the scene on the floor beneath him. "You're gonna like prison, don't worry." Ignoring the fact that he had completely left out the part to the other that he had informed the police just before entering of exactly where he would be and exactly what was going to happen. Carter was going back down one way or another, but he wasn't going to go alone this time.
When the door swung open, he expected it to be the cops. He figured that this was the end and he'd go without resisting. He had done all that he needed to do; Carter didn't care where he ended up. Anywhere was hell without Alara there anymore.
But instead, he was met with a familiar face, one that he had missed dearly. The smile returning back to his lips as their eyes met each other. Just as he was about to open his mouth to give a "Hey, Dally." She was pushed aside and the police of Hidehill came rushing through the door. He dropped the knife to the ground and threw his hands in the air, laughing as they shoved him into the wall and placed the cuffs around his wrists.

Harrison made his way through La Vela to Andi's office as requested by Izaiah, slightly puzzled as to why and even more annoyed at the timing. He'd finally been hitting things off with Paisley at the bar when he'd gotten the text. Come to the office, it's urgent. What could be so urgent? There'd been a plan in place, he thought they were solid on the details. Maybe not. Turning the doorknob to the office, Harrison peered through the lowly lit surrounds to find Izzy standing idly in the corner. "Hey, I got your text. Is everything still good to go? What's so urgent?"

consign me not to darkness
tw: violence, knife, police mentions: @alarakucuk, @kiyanthompson, @dallasparker
Everything happened in slow motion.
Carter saw the police enter the fairgrounds from across the way. His eyes turned quickly from them to where Alara was stationed. He knew this was it.
Before he knew it, he was running to her. Grabbing her by the shoulders and placing a hard and sloppy kiss on her lips. “Run.” He whispered into her ear as he took off in a different direction from her. His hand flying to his back where a blade laid tucked into his back pocket.
He knew that he had to keep them away from her. Protect her.
Everything around him was a blur. He couldn’t tell who was in front of him, his vision going red. This wasn’t what Carter wanted, none of this had turned out the way he had hoped.
He still didn’t end up with the girl.
By the time the police caught up to him, he had already left Viktor and Harrison laying in his path. He stood there with the blade in hand, two police officers gunning him down.
“Drop the knife.”
Carter did as he was told, throwing the blade on the ground towards their feet. His eyes frantically moving around the grounds. Trying to spot Alara anywhere.
Then he was off again. His feet hit hard against the ground as he desperately tried to make it back to her. If he could just get back to her, they could get out of this. Get out of there forever.
“ALARA!”
She was all that mattered. She was the only thing that had ever mattered. Everything he had done, he did for her. He moved the bodies, he covered up the crimes, he loved her unconditionally.
His mind travels back as he runs. Back to Dallas, her laughter echoing through his head.
“Get rid of her.” Alara had said to him.
For the first time since his breakup with Alara, his heart had felt heavy.
He remembers the feeling of his fingers around her neck, the way the life inside her kept fighting for the power to stay there.
Carter knew she wasn’t dead when he left her there. And for that he was punished. He never had the power here, he was never in charge.
Kiyan. Two brothers. Bitter is the war between them.
His blood ran cold at the first threat against him.
Nothing could happen to Kiyan.
Their relationship had been difficult since the day the younger boy came to the home. Carter resented the way their parents loved him. Resented all of them so much that he had convinced himself that Kiyan would never love him either, he was never going to be on Carters side. So, Carter shut him out forever.
His first mistake with Alara and Nadia was that he showed he still cared. That’s when the arrests happened and Carter knew that the other two of their group had been behind it.
He couldn’t fuck up again. The cost would not only be his own life, but his brothers too.
THUD.
He was so close. He could see Alara being taken by other cop as he was tackled to the down. He could almost reach out and touch her if they didn’t have his hands behind his back.
“ALARA!”
His screams for her were useless. She was no longer paying attention to anything he had to say.
Carter was faced with the reality he had put himself in. He was going to jail, but he was going for love. He spit out the grass that had landed in his mouth from the tackle to the ground. Turning his face to spit in the direction of the arresting officer. A smile began to creep onto his lips.
This wasn’t over, far from it. “My dad is going to be so pissed.” He laughs, the smile not leaving his face as he keeps his eyes locked on where Alara was.

The sound of Jordans name made his jaw clench. "What the fuck?" He furrowed his brows, looking around to see if the guy was nearby. "I've always told you that you are too good for him. He doesn't offer you anything, you don't need someone like that Dallas." Carter had hated the two of them together, feeling like just being around the tall man made her lose brain cells.
Dallas looked over at him, her usual smile not exactly covering her face before she stole some of his cotton candy and placed it into her mouth. "Jordan broke up with me" she groaned quickly. "Who breaks up with someone at a carnival?"

"What if I pay after? I don't wanna pay if I'm not gonna get a prize." He grinned at her, knowing that wasn't how the games worked. But he also knew that Alara might let it slide, if he was lucky. "We had down time and needed to find something to do." He shrugged, "It was a stress relief."
"Okay but if you get them in you don't get a prize since you haven't paid" she smiled as she handed over a few of the ping pong balls for him to try. "You guys played this in the military? Well, beer pong not this specifically. I figured you would just be working or training half the time over there."

"You caught me." It wasn't a secret that Carter loved to get under his brothers skin and using Kit was not only the best way, but he actually really enjoyed being around him. "It's going a lot better than I thought it would. I usually don't like carnivals, I find them creepy." He smiled, "I actually snagged some cotton candy earlier, but I could go for some fries now if you wanna go with me?"
˙ ˖ ✶ Carter
"I know right, and I can tell you were hoping you'd get stuck with me, and that would've really annoyed Kiyan, which would've been really funny," Kit mused, rolling his eyes playfully at Carter. "So, how's your night going so far, want some cotton candy, or are you just wanting to spend some time with your new best friend?"

Taking a few pieces of popcorn from the bag, he threw one into his mouth. "Obviously." He grinned at the other male. "I heard you were working with Alara today, she bite your head off yet?" It was a genuine question, Carter knew how she operated and how easily someone could piss her off.
remy was walking around the fair, probably doing anything but what he was supposed to do. he had looked up, feeling arms trace around him before looking over to notice it was carter. "hey sexy," remy popped a piece of carnival popcorn in his mouth and offered carter some from the bag. "walking around. did you miss me?"

"Are you saying I look like I came from the Pinterest board of a thirteen year old?" Carter questioned, raising his brows slightly as he tried not to laugh but still smiling. "That cuts deep, brother." He leaned over the stand that Kiyan was assigned to, picking up a bag of cotton candy for himself and pulling off a piece to pop into his mouth. "This whole thing is kinda lame, you having any fun at least?"
"Dressed like...I always am?" He blinks. Has his fashion sense improved any since, like, high school? No, but judging by what Carter has on, he's in the same boat. The nail polish was new, but Kit had convinced him to give it a go, even if he'd managed to pick about a quarter of it off by now. "Gee thanks. But I think I'll take teacher's assistant over looking like I came to life from the Pinterest board of a thirteen year old."

"I can't believe I'm bored at a carnival." Carter complained, looking over at his best friend. "That feels like a crime." He tossed a piece of cotton candy that he had stolen into his mouth. Offering some up to Dallas as he continued to speak. "Tell me some drama, I'm dying over here."

"Give me some of the balls. I wanna try." He continued to smile at her. Being around Alara just brought out this side in him, one that was both dangerous and giddy. She always kept him on his toes, even when she was just manning a simple carnival game. "I think I could nail this game. I was a pro at beer pong back in the day when I was in the military and this is just like a big beer pong table."
She'd had fun when her and Carter hooked up, he knew her like nobody else but that didn't mean she wanted to be with him in the way that he wanted her. "I honestly have no idea" she confessed with her arms folded across her body, she turned to look at the bowls beside her and then back at him with a shrug. "I think they have to like sink the bowl to win a prize.. or maybe just land in a bowl to get a prize.. i was hoping Remy knew."

On his way back from the ticket booth, he was lost in his own head making his way through the crowds that he didn't realize his grip was too loose on the tickets he held. "Oh, shit." Carter turned around to face the voice that was coming from behind him. When he saw it was Mateo, he offered a friendly smile on his face. "Thanks, I got them with money from Alara. She'd be pissed if I didn't bring all of them back to her."

mateo didn't mind volunteering, it was a lot of fun. he always wondered how the rides worked anyway. right now he was on break so he was walking to go get a funnel cake. he got in line, looking at his phone before he noticed a ticket on the ground. he bent down to pick it up and tapped the person in front of them. "hey, i think you lost a ticket?"

"Why are you dressed like that?" Carter looked his brothers outfit up and down, an eyebrow raised. He didn't have much room to question other peoples sense of fashion given the shirt he was wearing now and all the other he had worn before, but still he always found a way to pick on Kiyan. "You should have called me if you needed help picking out an outfit, I would have stopped you from looking like a teachers assistant."

Carter had noticed right away that Kit and Kiyan had ended up paired together. Though he was secretly hoping that he'd get partnered up with Kit just to see his brother suffer, a part of him was glad that Kiyan actually had someone. "You got stuck with that grumpy dude, huh?" He teased him as he approached, "That's brutal."

"There she is!" Carter exclaims loudly with his arms out to frame her in his words, as he walks up to where Alara is standing at her booth. "The most beautiful girl at the carnival." He smirks, knowing that she is going to find him completely annoying. It's something that he just can't help, but to provoke her. "You having such a great time working this... what even is this?"
