“If I had to pick a least favorite season, summer would most definitely be it,” Alex mused, glancing up from the newspaper held in her hands. “I agree, though, that this summer definitely could be worse. Hands down, it has to be the best one since I left New York.”
“Oh yeah, exactly. I’m more of a spring person myself - I’m just lucky I don’t have pollen allergies.” Casper leaned back, letting out a content sigh. “I can definitely agree with that. I suppose I feel differently because so much for me is changing and it’s positive for once. Summer’s actually on my side this year.”

“You know, I’ve never been a big fan of summer, but this year is chalking up to be a pretty good one so far. The fact I don’t feel like melting constantly is a bonus too.”

Casper’s eyebrows immediately furrowed. “I do- I think do- Wait.” She moved over to where her bag was, quickly rummaging through the contents to a small pouch where she kept small medical supplies. “Here-” Quickly going back to the other woman and handing it to her.
“It’s fine! I’m fine.” Molly pressed a paper towel over the small incision on her finger –hell, incision was too strong of a word. She’d pricked herself with a rose thorn. It wasn’t anything major. “Seriously, it’s not bleeding too bad. –Do you have a bandaid on you?”

“Yeah, maybe you will,” he told her softly, trying to make sure that he wasn’t pushing anything or revealing too much. But it was clear that Casper felt the same about him and he was actually pretty overwhelmed by that but in the best way. So often he was used to preparing himself for disappointment, for either not feeling as strongly for the other person or the other person not feeling much for him. But Casper was looking at him like she wanted him, like she wanted to be there and it send a flood of warmth through his body the longer he looked at her. “I mean if you’re worried about the slow cooker possibly being on we can stop by but otherwise I’m happy to have you all to myself tonight,” he admitted in a soft voice before pressing his lips to her cheek for a moment. “Wow, honestly, I didnt expect everything to work out so well and now that it has I’m trying to breathe and wrap my head all around it,” he admitted with a laugh. “You and me, huh? We make a hell of a team and damn we look cute in those vacation photos, I just have to put that out there.” Jordan felt like some of the pressure had disappeared now that they were on the same page and it made him that much more excited about the future. “You want to get out of here? I think it’s time to blow this Popsicle stand..or ice cream shop. The same sentiments apply,I think.”
She really couldn’t stop smiling at all of this - she felt lucky, for one. How things worked out were far beyond expectations, though to be fair the bar was set pretty low. It would be her first proper, mature relationship. The fact she trusted Jordan - that he had been her friend first made it much easier for her to want to fall straight into it. “I don’t think it’s on, come to think of it. I just always worry it is after I made the mistake one day.” And it was her nerves bubbling up gently. But it wasn’t anything that stopped her from what she wanted, thankfully. Just needed some time to let it settle. “Me neither,” she said with a little laugh, nodding. She didn’t know how to wrap her head around it, really. “It- It feels really nice. Me and you. But yeah those pictures are pretty cute.” Not that she’d been looking at them a lot since they got back or anything. “Let’s go with ice cream shop. But I think it works either way.” Casper looked at Jordan for a little while longer, biting back all the scrambled words in her head that refused to make actual sentences. “Wait, Jord-” Placing a gentle had on his cheek, she pressed her lips to his - just for a moment, just enough. “Now we can go.”

“Well get used to hearing it. I’ll repeat myself if I have to,” he told her with a soft laugh. “I..feel so uncertain about things in my life right now. Mostly work. But you…you’re one of the few things that make sense. That I feel so sure of. And that…that brings me a lot of peace,” he told her honestly, not always the best with being so forward but for her he was really trying. “Strange?” He laughed softly before he looked at her ice cream and brought some napkins up to wipe her hands. “i guess that’s a compliment, huh?” He smiled sweetly before he got up from his side of the booth to sit next to her, his arm sliding around her shoulders. “Do you want to come stay at my place tonight? I’ll take you to work in the morning,” he told her softly before pressing his lips to the side of her head. “I’d really love it if you did.”
Her heart was insistent, especially with his words. God she felt so strange, in the best way. “Maybe I could get used to hearing it if you do.” Casper nodded as he spoke - she understood where he came from. Admittedly, it had been awhile since she felt a mass amount of uncertainty in her life. “I’m glad I can be that for you... That I am that for you. I’ll try to not screw up,” she said with a small chuckle. She used the other napkins to help clean up as well, before bringing her hand to her mouth to lick at where it was sticky. “From me? The highest compliment available, really.” Casper raised her eyebrows as he switched over to sit next to her, but it was far too easy for her to lean into him with his arm around her shoulder. She let out a gentle hum, very obviously feeling comfortable where she was. “Oh! Ah-” She thought about it. It wasn’t like she couldn’t, or didn’t want to. But it’d be the first time, really for her to do something like this. It made her slightly nervous. Casper spoke up a bit after, “I’d love to, Jord. I don’t have the slow cooker on so we don’t have to drop by mine either- I think?”

“Oh, yes, were you with Jordan the whole time?” He asked tilting his head. This obviously gave away that Jensen knew about their relationship and that they went to Italy. He didn’t know anything else though other than Jordan’s concerns, but he was never going to bring that up. “Oh, Jordan didn’t mention going to Korean. Did you go after or before and with Jordan?”
Casper restrained from choking on the air - she knew a tiny bit to expect him knowing, she just hadn’t gotten herself ready. “Ah, yeah! I couldn’t have gone without him after all,” she tried to say as casually as she could, nodding gently. “We went after- uh, together. I hadn’t been for a long while.” At least things were out there in the open now, she supposed.

“ I might have to try it sometime” He replied smiling as he takes his coffee and sips it “ I love making my own pizza’s!”
“Making a pizza sounds like a lot of work,” she commented, beginning to wipe down the counter. “But yeah making pasta is criminally easy it’s why I end up eating a lot of it.”

“Oh I feel you on that. I can never go to the cafe on my days off I just end up behind the counter and helping out. Though we only really have aprons over our normal clothes as our standard uniforms so I can see how you without one would’ve looked to those people. Wait- please tell me you didn’t have to wear them the whole day.”
“You know work too much when you make a run to the store to get a few things and you forget it’s your day off and start approaching other customers and ask if they’re finding everything okay. It took a few minutes before I realized why I was getting weird looks. Possibly the most embarrassing thing to happen to me in a while. Minus last week when I sat on a kid’s melted cherry icee and it got on my khakis– you can guess what that looked like.”

“ What would you say is the dish you’re best at?” He questions as he looked at her.
“Eh, depends on my mood. But I think I always make a mean pesto pasta.” She took his coffee that had just gotten done, and continued whilst she capped the cup off. “What about yourself? Do you cook?”

His feelings for Casper has snuck up on him, slowly and then all of a sudden it had consumed him. But in a way that made every moment feel lighter witht he thought of her. After they had gotten back from his trip, he had returned to the studio, surrounded by people he had spent so much time with and new ones he barely knew. And he found himself thinking of her softness, in the way he felt weightless when he was around her because she took away all the pressure. He thought about waking up with her for the first time that morning in Florence and thinking how nice it would be to wake up to her in Portland every day. He was sure it was the perfect way to start the morning. And so he embraced the quiet but subtle way his feelings for her had grown and decided that he didn’t want to resist it anymore. He was ready to rest and let himself be happy.
He let out a soft laugh and shook his head but his smile was clear and he was grateful for the break in the tension. “Hell yeah I do,” he replied and wrapped both of his hands around one of hers before leaning in to bring it to his lips. “I so want you, in every way possible,” he told her honestly. “I really, really want to see where this goes and I…I really just love spending time with you.”
It still surprised her when he said that. It’s not like her romantic history was completely vacant. There had been two people in college. But that really was it. It had been a long time, and she’d never felt like this. Not when she was being the second choice, or never really a choice at all in the end. This? Casper couldn’t help but feel her smile grow and grow. She’d known for awhile - at least internally - that she felt things for Jordan. But she was so used to being alone, and holding back (especially because he had been her friend first) that it became too easy for her to set aside. But of course with how events transpired, it was obvious that she couldn’t just ignore the feelings. Not the way he made her feel. She wasn’t used to wanting this much - or even letting herself want this. So to hear that he wanted her too?
“You do,” she repeated quietly, her smile as pleased as it was large, “That’s honestly strange to hear for me.” Casper’s laugh was breathy as she held on to his hands. “I’d like that- to see where it goes. Spend more time with you.” She bit down on her bottom lip to try and quell her smile because really, it was starting to hurt her mouth. “It’s also strange how much I like you, Jord,” she said this with shrug of her shoulders, “Apparently almost enough to let my ice cream start to melt.”

In a lot of ways Jordan felt like he was in a transition period, on the cusp of making a shift that would allow him not to burn out. And that was how he felt as of late. Like he was burning out. The parties, the tours, all of it had been something that fueled his soul and now, whenever he was away, he just couldn’t wait to get back to Portland. He missed his house, his family and friends and now, he was getting used to missing Casper whenever he wasn’t with her. It had taken him a long time to get there, especially after his last relationship. Jordan was just realizing now how long it had taken him to recover from that and a lot of that pain had been preventing him from seeing what was right in front of him. Which was that Casper made him happy, really happy. The kind of happy that made him forget about all the bad stuff for a while but also reassured him that the bad stuff would work out because she’d be there with him and he’d be there for her. “So then I think we should see where this goes,” he told her and reached a hand across the table to take her free one. “I really want to. You..god, Cas, you make me so happy,” he admitted, feeling a little shy in the moment but he was pushing through it. “If you want me, then I’m yours.”
Casper could feel her whole being warm up again - she was thankful they were eating ice cream. It was a hard thing, trying to process everything she was feeling and everything he was saying to her. Not when she had become so accustomed to the comfortable neutrality of her life. Jordan just slowly, over time, changed things to make things different. Different how, she wasn’t sure. But it was definitely good and something she liked and something she didn’t know would be possible for herself . “You do too. Make me happy,” she managed, feeling everything just rush all over the place, relishing the feeling of his hand on her’s. Her eyes had been flickering nervously the whole time she spoke, but after a little breath, she finally looked up at him properly. Her smile was small and bashful, but still definitely there. “Want you... That sounds a little suggestive, doesn’t it?” It wasn’t exactly the best time to try and lighten the mood, but she was far too giddy looking at him to do much else. Because she did want him. God, she did. In every way. She paused before speaking up again. “I do. Want you. Do- Do you? Want me, I mean.”

Casper looked over at the photos with a large smile on her face. She had yet to see the baby, and she wouldn’t for awhile, but he was indeed cute as all hell. “He’s beautiful!” she exclaimed gently, “You would totally be the super aunt that every one of your nephews and nieces would love if that happens. How’s the family? I’ve been meaning to visit but I’m scared it’s too early.”
“Isn’t he just the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?” Hayat was practically squealing as she swiped through photos of her brand new nephew. “Honestly, I’m amazed I managed to leave the hospital without being escorted out for overstaying my welcome.” A sigh escaped her as she stared at her phone screen with obvious fondness. “I want like eleven.”

“Um, I’m here to get you.” He raised a brow at her, as if it was obvious. That alone made him different from the other customer, but also, Daniel wasn’t here as a customer at all! “No thank you. Still not a coffee fan–” although he had come all this way… “But if you’re throwing out any of those lemon cake things, I’ll take one. I’m basically a human dumpster, so giving it to me’s almost the same,” he said, patting his stomach proudly.
She replied with her own pair of raised eyebrows. “And why exactly are you doing this suddenly?” Her tone wasn’t malicious or even reticent, mostly just curious. “Though again, Dan, I feel like I need to remind you that one, I don’t drink coffee either. And two, we don’t just carry coffee here,” Casper said, mirroring his tone from before because this time (to her at least) it was obvious. “Human dumpster or not I was going to give them to you either way.”

“Where’d you?” Jensen asked as he glanced at the copy of the receipt. His eyes glanced over the numbers and his brain did the usual math before he pocketed it.
“Oh,uh- Florence. And Seoul.” She tried to say it as if it was normal for her to go somewhere that far. “I got to see my grandmother after a long while.” ‘Friend’ was taking it very lightly, but it was what it was at the moment.
