Concept that delves into body horror

Tritons bones are not so much human bone but more like coral. They’re more alive than bones are and they can grow in different forms if given the time

Some triton cultures don’t heal their wounds in the traditional sense. Instead they allow the coral in their bones to grow out of their skin and into more coral-like shapes. The coral kinda fills the gap where the cut or injury happened and solidifies the gash.

This creates a natural sort of armor while also showcasing the many battles the Triton has won. It also gains color as it grows, depending on what the Triton is eating and the ph of the water.

Depending on the shape the coral takes it can be carved or trimmed. Coral grown from Triton bones can be used for a lot of different things including potions of water breathing.

Some tritons will have large elk horn or rounded leaf corals growing from the side of their ribcage, or branching coral growing from their shoulders or arms. Sometimes bones can produce growths on their own and tritons will wake up to find a protrusion of coral growing from their bones. This is considered auspicious, and is a sign they will live a long life because their very bones are protecting them

I’m writing this and honestly just remembered Gillions coral crown, I was just writing it cuz I thought that having a Triton with coral growing out of it like a bright colorful Davy Jones crew member would be sick as hell
