I met David Tennant and gave him the book I made for him! 🌈✨

Last month, the stars aligned, and my dream of meeting David Tennant became a reality! As many of you know, he's had a major positive impact on my life since I was twelve, and the fact that I got to properly meet him and thank him for all he's done has not quite hit me yet.

I've always wanted to gift him something special, so I spent about two weeks in April working on a small illustrated book for him! I wrote him a letter, telling him about all the ways he and his work has impacted me over all these years and added fitting illustrations to each page. I put a lot of love into it and I'm incredible proud of the outcome. I gave him the book at MCM this May, and I really hope he liked it!

Over there, I also wrote about my whole day at MCM and how my several meetings with David Tennant went. I got to give him the book at his autograph session! I do have a recording of the interaction, but recordings weren't actually allowed, so I won't be sharing it. I don't want a video that he didn't give consent to floating around on the internet. I just like to have these recordings because I tend to forget everything that was said, haha. Instead, I'll be sharing a transcript with you!

⭐ Here's my conversation with David Tennant at his autograph session at MCM London in May 2025:

D: Hiii!~

H: Hi! I have something for you! (grinning)

D: Oh! (big eyes, big "O" face)

H: I've always promised myself that if I ever got to meet you like this, I would make something very special (for you). I'm an illustrator, so I illustrated a whole book for you!

*I take out the book and lay it on the table in front of him*

D: Oh woooow, look at that!! This is a whole book?!

H: Yes, it's a whole book! (laughs) With illustrations, if you wanna go through it!

*David Tennant picks up the book very gently*

D: Oh, wow. *slowly turns a few pages and looks through them intently, mouth agape* Ohh, I'm gonna have a realllyyy good look at that later, thank you so much!

*He puts the book to the side gently, gives it a last little tap*

H: *pointing towards book* It's a letter, I wrote a lot of things down that I want to tell you, because I don't have the time now. You've been—like—a big comfort in my life for over a decade now.

D: Awe, that's lovely!

H: And the fact that I get to meet you now is very special to me. Because you're a very special person.

D: (does the "🥺" face) Well, you're very kind.

H: I want to thank you for being such a light in the dark in these—like—trying times. (laughs)

D: (very sincere) Thank you.

H: The world is so dark and just-

D: I know, we gotta keep going, ain't we?

H: Yeah, and you give—especially a lot of queer people—so much hope that there's still good people out there. So thank you for everything you do.

D: (in a small, more quiet voice) Awe, you're very kind. Thank you.

H: You're so lovely.

D: Awe, thank you. *enthusiastically taps on book several times* I can't wait to look through that!

*I already took up a lot of time, the other guy at the booth (booth patrol?) wants me to move along. There's a ton of people in line, so I understand*

H: Oh wait, I also have something for Georgia!! I forgot. *quickly takes out the framed illustration of him and Georgia and hands it to him* There you go!

D: Wahhh, look at that! *holds the frame and looks at the illustration* That's beautiful! Thank you so much! Can't wait to show that to her!

H: I'm glad you like it! Thank you! I hope you have a great day! *I take my autograph and start to leave, waving back at him* I hope it's not too stressful and you get to sleep well tonight!

D: Thank you, thank you, and you!

H: Thank you! Bye bye!

D: Bye!!

*I leave the autograph booth a happier person than before*

I don't quite know how to put it into words how much this meeting meant to me. I'm not someone who keeps a bucket list, I like to let life surprise me. But meeting David Tennant was one of the few things I definitely had to do once in this life.

Here's a little quote from the book to end this post: "And if I could, I'd travel back in time just to thank my younger self for choosing you (David Tennant) as her favourite actor, because she made a damn good choice." ❤️

Sua wanted to protect Mizi’s “innocence,” but with the new comics that have been released, it’s become clear that Mizi wasn’t naive about how she’s viewed societally or about the Alien Stage competition itself; what she was naive about was believing she could have some control over her circumstances and over how she is perceived while in the position she was in. That's the innocence Sua wanted her to hold onto for as long as possible.

Sua lets Mizi have control over her—lets her take the lead when it comes to their relationship and feeds into Mizi’s desire for control over her life. Mizi could “crush” her, but she doesn’t, and when Mizi’s emotions do get the best of her, she’s horrified and regretful, knowing that what she did was wrong because she truly loves Sua and doesn’t want to see her hurt.

Sua knows that the bubble that they’ve formed for themselves is the only real place Mizi can have control, because try as she might to live a life the way she wants, Mizi can’t truly change how others see her. Mizi being a kind and joyful person isn’t a lie, but the problem comes with the fact that she’s a people pleaser and tries to keep up that part of herself even when she’s uncomfortable or upset. She tries to skirt around and act oblivious in situations where she knows she could hurt others' feelings because there's a chance that they will hurt her when her wants don’t align with theirs. 

Mizi wants others to like her and to be her friend, but the only person she wants romantically is Sua. If she ignores the feelings that the men around her have for her, then hopefully they’ll sort themselves out and everyone will be fine in the end, right? "Please don't confront me, please don't feel entitled to me. I don't want either of us to get hurt."

Even after that unnamed boy physically harms and accuses her of being a manipulator, Mizi gives him the benefit of the doubt. She doesn't want to hurt anyone in any way; she never tried to lead anyone on.

Back then, even before Alien Stage, she felt guilty because she believed this idea of herself that she presented in order to hide her true feelings, a happy-go-lucky and carefree girl, was the reason that others resented her, idolized her, or thought of her so shallowly. She thought that the control she believed she had was what caused others to see and act the way they did to her. 

Mizi hiding her “bad” emotions probably did affect how she was perceived a bit, but even if she didn't, would it have mattered? As previously said, she didn’t completely hide away who she truly was; she just played up the part of herself that she knew others liked. Her being completely transparent about everything wouldn’t have stopped some of the men around her from feeling as though she owed them something just because she was a woman; it wouldn’t have stopped people from resenting her for “having it easy.”

Mizi knows what society expects of her but still wants to feel as though she has control, so when she is harmed by societal values and expectations such as heteronormativity, she believes it’s her fault to some extent despite being disgusted with them herself.

This finally leads us to the Alien Stage competition itself. Surely she and Sua can make history with a tie, surely she can control how this ends, and their performance can convince the audience to let them move forward together. Guardian Shine and her family may have not understood her, but as long as she’s loved by her peers, she knows she will survive. She and Sua will show them their love, and they will be loved by them in turn. They are going to make it.

Sua knows better, though. She’s let Mizi have control over her for as long as possible—has let her take the lead for as long as possible. She knows that individually they cannot change the hearts of those that subjugate them, that the audience's love for them will not save them. So she takes the control that she’s granted Mizi back, one of them has to die and Sua’s making sure it’s herself.

Mizi wants to have control, so her survivor's guilt tries to convince her that she always was the one in control and accuses her that this is what she wanted. She feels as though she can only blame herself for what's happened to those around her.

Does anyone have opinions on MiziSua after the new comic. I can't seem to figure out their deal. I feel like we got so much information but at the same time not enough. Like some of the details lack specificity, I'm not sure. I wanna hear other ppls interpretation, so far I've seen more posts about mizi and the sexism and lesbaphobia shes experienced but not her relationship with Sua. Idk how to feel about the slap scene in Sua's pov. Someone please open a dialougue pleaseee. Idc about what this comic says about Ivan or Till unless its with respect to Mizis character.

Am I the only one whos put off by the fact that Till knew about MiziSua and still had the audacity to play Unknown. Like Mizi just lost the love of her life, her pain so obviously visible, but Till doesn't care and still plays his song for her. When he said he liked Mizi for her face that seems to be boyhood naivety, someone who hasn't made sense of his feelings yet, something said from being nervous, but Unknown seems downright sinister.
