Nope, that's a new question! Generally I think personality is the big thing to look for when it comes to adopting any pet, but like, if I assume all other factors are perfect? I think mink points are really pretty

I just saw a video of a cat I haven't seen since it was a few weeks old (about a year ish ago) and I was shocked to see what I thought was a fever coat is actually still her fur pattern! I've never seen spots on a cat so broken up before that it really surprised me. anyone else have wispy cats?

White spotting definitely gets weird sometimes! It's definitely possible!

There are also a lot of other genes and things that cause interesting white patterns, though they're all pretty rare, so I wouldn't make any assumptions.

Hello! Would you happen to have any resources on orange tabby genetics specifically? I have an orange tabby boy that has an interesting dark cast to his fur. It's most notable on his tail were the color almost fades into a dirty gray. I KNOW I've seen something about this color mutation before, but I can not find any resources on cat colors that aren't overly simplistic or unapproachably dense.

I pretty much always direct people to Messybeast, I'm not aware of anything quite as comprehensive as it (though I'm sure similar resources exist)– if you're having trouble parsing what it has to say, I can always give it a look myself and provide a summary!

how does one acquire such cat knowledge? i love love love being able to identify things and i love love LOVE cats (also not to brag but for like a week i was top 10 in the US at identifying cat breeds on quizup)

Lots of reading. When I was young, I'd read all sorts of books on cats; as I got older, websites came into the mix. For example, Messybeast and Sparrow's Garden are some good website resources to check out. You can look for books at your local library.

Wait, the red-base color shows tabby even in non-tabby torties and calicos? My little girl is a dilute calico and her cream patches aren't visibly striped.

Sometimes it can be hard to see! Especially with calicos and torties, where you're only getting little pieces of the pattern. The contrast between stripe and "background" can also be low, especially in cream cats. Try parting her fur and looking for hairs with bands of light and darker at the tips!

No! This is normal with calicos– red-base fur shows tabby by default, but black-base fur only shows tabby if the cat has the gene for tabby.

Cream is dilute red! All red-based fur is automatically tabby, and red is frequently referred to as orange in popular terms, so yes!
