i have very little context to what this is referring to but i find this statement so contradictory & silly. i personally dont think i should be required to understand the relationship of these people behind the scenes to discern whether a joke makes me uncomfortable or not. no i DONT know these people in real life & therefore i think as a viewer i should not only be fine with but also expected to take things at face value and how they are presented to me. as a viewer. and watching people making fun of other people is not very fun. what are you on about

i was actually browsing your blog and i think your really doing some justice here for hermitcraft + even the life series! i just wanted to give my own thoughts because you really opened my mind recently with all the drama/hidden drama going on yk? i started watching hermitcraft during season 7 in the beginning via grians pov which then transitioned to season 8, 9, the life series, etc. i watched him pretty religiously until limited life area hit because then thats when the series started to feel a bit.... bland per say to me. working out from only watching him to expanding to other people like scar, bdubs, etho, etc, really opened myself to realising that grian seemed to had lost his passion for content making around that time! wild life was for sure a relative flop to me-- only reason i got any enjoyment from it was my winning bet! the gimmicks in it ramping up got incredibly frustrating i would say to alot of people as well as being overwhelming... when secret life happened the secret task idea was cool at first... only to see them really knock into the way of peoples own ideas, builds, development, etc, etc.

since being an "og" watching all these series from the start to the end, i've realised how grian doesn't seem to actively have "fun" unless something is going his "way" per say. what i mean is how the "secret society" thing was encorporated into past life just. out of the blue! having to kill the ender dragon... its just giving me flash backs to secret life when his task was to get a wither... that was also quite.... not fun either, really, if you understand what i mean!! it seemed very indulgent to me.

i think also the "key" to a "good + enjoyable" life series is something we have to take from the formula of the first life series. and i think its the quiet moments, character development, and even border-line roleplaying moments. as far as i understand, people liked dogwarts because it created a storyline for them to play with, get to know about, and develop. (coming from someone who knew of it but wasn't furnished in the lore just yet.) people liked grians + scars whole thing because it was also a storyline really. i think the reason why 3rd life was as big as a hit it was to continue all these new installments-- is because these people were able to bounce off eachother and create friendships/bonds they for sure didn't have before it started as well as it being incredibly new to what everyone was doing in the minecraft space! (as far i know.)

as the life series have gone on, i think people end up becoming more unhappy with it is because the players don't have the chance anymore to build off eachother and create these meaningful, impactful storylines. it's been so overused that now we all know the life series as "make team, kill enemies, win." rather then also knowing it as "make team, grow bonds with people, create lasting storylines, win, but most importantly have fun whilst doing so."

when i get ready for a new life series, i've realised i've started to only watch it just because of the pov i want to see suceed + win rather then them creating a lasting and very impactful storyline for everyone to tinker with and grow interested in. this is coming from a writer so i've always been deeply interested to the "little things" that make a storyline, the "coincidences", etc, which is the main reason why I was so entranced with 3rd life!

as time goes by, things will always change.

as time goes by, i've also realised how hermitcraft has too, become fragmented.

i think the big reason why people who criticize hermitcraft/life series get stamped as "hateful" is because hermitcraft/life series are for sure branded to be friendly enough for kids. which is why its presumed there should be nothing wrong with it, just like youtube is doing their whole ai thing "for kids" so it should be okay.

going from iskalls whole.... "thing" to the skizz drama to the realisation that grian is most, for sure, a bit.... more annoying then how he was "originally" branded as, has really opened me to realise that. things are changing! it only deepens my wonder about the things that could be going on behind the scenes and the other things hermitcraft may or may not be hiding from its viewers-- just like iskall had done.

so what im saying really is that-- your criticism + other peoples i think is really helping the enviroment then what people think. criticism is key because its the same as communication. without communication, everything will break down. i truly believe its a rule of life and the key to living life. criticism and communication get people to start thinking and really digesting what they are digesting in the first place.

in retrospect, im sorry for the really long ask/rant!!! (if anything more of a rant + appreciation for you then an ask) when i write, i really can't stop until its all out </3. hopefully it's... okay!!! im not sure if i'll drop by to say something else, but you for sure have earned a new person that'll be eyeing your blog from now on!!!

been keepin this ask in my inbox for a few days cause its important to me becuz youre so so so right about grian only doing shit thats completely indulgent & for his own benefit only. all the time. i think this is exactly whats been bugging me about this entire season and his "villian era" because none of the perspectives i watch think its even remotely fun. its just fun for him but annoying to literally everyone else. why are you destroying peoples bases for no reason as a green life. youre so right

nah just the last time lol me and couple friends were all just sorta like. “???” over how nobody seems to gaf anymore 😭 like i know people on here aren’t the wokest around but it’s crazy to me that there’s blog posts with fanart and fanfiction about the guy who, when people got frustrated with his mods (who regularly post stuff advocating for anti-trans legislation) responded by basically going Guys This Is A Nice Chill Fun Place!! No Politics Here Please 😅

In leui of your posts about Grian, I too have found myself to be annoyed with him and his content. Not just the life series, but also hermitcraft. I used to think he was genuinely funny and creative, but over time he’s become more annoying. (Further context: I only watch his minecraft content, nothing else)

Honestly, I’ve found Geminitay’s and BDu’s content to be a lot more engaging for me. Its like going to watch an episode of The Joy of Painting Minecraft edition tbh. Like neither of them annoy me at all and I actually find myself enjoying their work, builds, and such.

I started watching Grian for the hijinks, builds, and his personality, but like you’ve said before he’s just become annoying and mildly egotistical. And with his recent builds and videos theres just nothing memorable about it! I just get the impression that he doesn’t really put as much creativity into his work and like most of it is shallow. Its like seeing a landscape painting in a doctor’s office, like yeah its nice but theres no story or anything behind it.

Anyway, thats my thoughts. Its late at night while I write this, so pls humor me

he stopped being fun 2 me the second he said he will never take fan suggestions for life seasons nd i was kinda like ah okay so you dont want 2 take feedback because your ego depends on it. got it* 👍

just wanna say ur blog is a godsend as someone who adored the life series but really stopped getting interested in it bc of the intrusive gimmicks… i’m still chasing that high i got from third life and double life… and specifically ethubs in last life because i was also a (closet) hater of the boogey mechanic before it eventually grew on me (mostly via watching bdubs’ last life, i am a simple ethubs fan what can i say)

i wish grian did not feel the need to keep on adding gimmicks to make the series “interesting” bc sadly it actually makes it less interesting. its the players that make it interesting and when there’s a simple setup thats where the magic happens. anyways sorry to vent in ur askbox but im here to say i agree with everything u have said about the life series im the biggest fan of ur takes

truly I do think that if enough fans expressed their dissent over the direction that the life series has been taking grian would probably change the formula but as it turns out if you express any criticism on tumblr other fans of the series say youre making grian cry &they want to rip ur face off 💁 so i can only imagine what its like to post these opinions in places where lifers actually read them

another thing i always keep in the back of my head in regards to gimmicks in the life series is that simply they are boring. it is boring when the conflict is planned, and its boring when the players' actions are controlled. i want to see them do what they want

have you been watching the new life series much and if so what do you think? i was enjoying it at first but hearing about the secret society thing kinda put me off it feels like its leaning into more gimmicky territory when at first it felt a lot more back to basics… i didn’t mind the boogie mechanic coming back but this. hm. i just feel like im not gonna enjoy it sadly.

i literally opened up my blog & was about to type "i think secret society is boring" before i saw this ask 😭 but yeah i watch it. not for the characters anymore though and not for emotions that i felt when watching the first season (though yeah i thought this season had promise too. Until. lol)

The way i feel towards secret society is the same i feel towards any other intrusive gimmick, and can be summarized as "I dont like it when players dont get to play the game in the way they want to play it". When Last Life came out i was such a hater of it back then too, because the boogey mechanic took away the player's agency. Every single season from then on (apart from DL) has been a downgrade for me.

i hate it when grians like this is the gimmick! also more surprises later on! like bro ill dent yr head with a shovel have we not learned anything from wild life.

in the end i dont think ill enjoy this season as much as i ever did enjoy third & double life, but at least this time most players seem to be enjoying themselves & playing the actual game, which is more than i can say for wild life. watch me get proven wrong next friday!
