Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a movie first and foremost about the destruction of minority neighborhoods and public transit by the American car industry. After that, it's a technological milestone. And then it's about cartoons

Taste is the most important factor in nutrition.
Because you get the most nutrients from the foods you'll actually eat.
So add cheese, oil, spices, vinegar, sauces, etc. Try them roasted or sauteed or pureed, etc.
The actual secret to eating lots of fruits and veggies and other nutrient dense foods is:
Make them taste good. That's literally it.

You've gotta love Jews more than you hate Nazis.
You've gotta love trans folks more than you hate TERFs.
You've gotta love your unhoused neighbors more than you hate the billionaires.
You've gotta love immigrants more than you hate ICE.
You've gotta love queer kids more than you hate christian fundamentalists.
You've gotta love fat people more than you hate the diet industry.
You've gotta love disabled people more than you hate the insurance companies.
You've gotta love your fellow humans more than you hate the worst that humanity has to offer. You don't have to like every person you're fighting for, and you sure as hell don't have to give up your righteous anger, but hate is ultimately corrosive.
You've gotta love.

I also think that all the "um okay knives out & glass onion were good. Wrap it up now" posts are so funny. You're tripping if you think there's not going to be at least five Benoit Blanc films lol

In Defence of Buttercup
Buttercup’s supposed passiveness is the crux of most critiques of The Princess Bride. But I’d argue that Buttercup acts in her own interests throughout the movie, making moves to secure her own future from her position of powerlessness. For the entirety of the movie barring the first and last scenes, Buttercup is a captive. She has to marry Humperdink in accordance with the law- she has no choice. In this moment we see her at her most passive. She’s accepted that he will marry her regardless of her feelings and she seeks her happiness in other places. Then she gets kidnapped. From that moment to the end of the movie Buttercup gets passed back and forth as the trophy everyone fights over. However, she doesn’t sit idly by. She attempts to escape Vizzini by jumping overboard into eel infested waters. That’s a brave move. She doesn’t know who is on the other ship she swims towards. She only hopes they won’t kill her like Vizzini plans to. Her failure doesn’t negate the bravery of her actions. Then she defies Wesley before she knows his identity. She tries to kill him by pushing him down the hill. He turns his back for one second and she makes a move against a man who she thinks will likely kill her. She saves Wesley when they exit the forest. Yes, it backfires, but she doesn’t know that. From that point on, Buttercup makes deals and argues with Humperdink in an attempt to get out of her betrothal. She uses any argument in her arsenal. It doesn’t work because she doesn’t know what he has planned for her.
Do you notice a theme? Because as I wrote this I noticed that Buttercup makes moves without context, which is why her escapes never work. She is a character acting without the information to succeed. That’s not her fault. That’s not passivity. That’s plot. The plot actively works against Buttercup freeing herself. So maybe we cut her some slack.

This is literally the most heart warming story I have read on Twitter so far. I think this is exactly what friends should do, and I feel everyone deserves people like this.

I was listening to a podcast discussing the question of what to do if a library book isn't just objectionable but has dangerously wrong information- in this case, advice to feed your infant raw milk- and they were conflicted about it because they didn't want to pile on the book bans. As someone who is not yet a librarian but has done a bunch of research on how libraries work, here's my advice if any of you have a similar situation:
Libraries get rid of books all the time- it's the only way they can find room for new books- and the first books to go are outdated legal and medical textbooks, where incorrect information could get a person killed or arrested. So if you find dangerously incorrect medical information in a book, please tell a librarian! You don't have to petition for a book ban, just politely bring it to the attention of the reference librarian! If they decide you're right, they'll remove it, and if not, they'll keep it. It doesn't make you a member of Moms for Liberty if you alert them to something they missed when weeding.
(Librarians who see this, feel free to add on if there's more to it!)

In 2011, Brad Wilcox gave a devotional at BYU titled “His Grace is Sufficient”. It has since garnered over 1.4M views on YouTube. This devotional served as the text in a sacrament meeting I recently attended. A central metaphor of the lesson compared the Atonement to a mother (Jesus) paying the price charged by a piano teacher (Justice) for piano lessons for a child (us). After the piano lessons are paid for, the mother asks the child to practice. The following questions are then asked and answered:
Does the practice pay the cost of the piano lessons? No.
Does the practice repay the mother for the lessons? No.
What, then, does the practice do? It transforms the child. This is why Jesus asks us to practice in higher and holier ways, so that we may be transformed
During this sacrament meeting, I asked myself “What does the Lord want of me? How am I being invited to become better and live (or practice) in a higher and holier way?”
Ultimately, I think that is a good question for any of us. And to be clear, I am interested in the Lord’s list for me and not just a set of recycled answers from a typical Sunday School class. I desire personal revelation, the Mind and Will of God for my individual needs and path.
A quote from the same talk went as follows “When a young pianist hits a wrong note, we don’t say they are not worthy to keep practicing. We don’t expect them to be flawless. We just expect them to keep trying. Perfection may be their ultimate goal, but for now we can be content with progress in the right direction… When learning the piano, are the only options performing at Carnegie Hall or quitting? No. Growth and development take time. Learning takes time. When we understand grace, we understand that God is long-suffering, that change is a process”
I have relied on, and continue to rely on, the Grace of God, something I was reminded of when we sang this verse from Amazing Grace:
Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home
