Whumpee keeps a diary while in captivity, detailing all the pain, fears, and punishments brought to them by Whumper. It's truly horrific: incredibly graphic and personal, containing things Whumpee would rather re-live all over again than have someone find out about. Whumpee knows Whumper looks at it, but that's different. It's not like Whumpee could ever stop them, and everything written in it Whumper has already seen in real life.

What Whumpee doesn't know is that Whumper has Whumpee's team in captivity elsewhere on the property, and that every night Whumper takes Whumpee's diary down to them and reads it as a 'bedtime story'. Whumper relishes in reciting each entry, recounting Whumpee's suffering in gleeful tones and adding their own comments that make it a thousand times worse, while the team have no choice but to sit there and listen. They can't ignore it. They can't even cover their ears because of their restraints. They just have to hear it and do nothing.

Whumper sets the team free before they release Whumpee. When Whumpee comes home, they try to pretend nothing happened. Sure, they're acting a little strange, but not different enough for the team to figure anything out... right?

They have no idea that the team has met Whumper too.

They have no idea that the team know everything.

Give me Whumpees who are trapped, even after rescue. Whumpees who dream of Whumper, waking up sweaty and afraid. The Whumpees who are hyper vigilant, seeing Whumper in every stranger. Shying away when they see their hair color, panicking when they catch a whiff of their aftershave. They know their Whumper is long gone, and yet their memory persists, a memory Whumpee fears they might never outrun.

I love it when only Whumpee calls the whump what it actually was. When Whumpee talks about it, it's "when I was in captivity"/"when I was tortured/"when [traumatic thing] happened."

But when anyone else (Caretaker, Team, Friend etc) brings it up, they lose all confidence mid-sentence and start scrabbling around for vague euphemisms. "You know... last summer"/"when you were... unwell"/"when [really vague and barely connected reference to traumatic thing]."

Maybe Caretaker won't call it what it was because they're scared it might trigger Whumpee. Maybe they won't call it what it was because they haven't processed it themselves and still don't have (or can't bring themself to) have a full understanding of it. Maybe the topic is just generally taboo or Caretaker has more bad feelings about it than Whumpee. Who knows. But I just think it's neat.

the moment of whumper forcing whumpee’s legs open is such a particularly scary, threatening moment. it’s got the overpowering and loss of control of manhandling, the terror and intimate implication of nonconsensual touching and rape threats. it sends such a clear message of i will do whatever i want with your body and you can’t stop me. you’re mine to play with, use, abuse. and it’s a promise of what’s about to happen. even if no further assault follows, that moment of certainty that violation is imminent is all-consuming.

whumpees distracting their intimate whumpers from something important with a kiss. does the whumper know what they’re doing? or do they fall for it, thinking whumpee is finally giving in?

I love the idea of a whumpee having a wardrobe malfunction that leads to a past injury/torture reveal.

Oh, your sleeve ripped and your whole team saw the brand your kidnapper branded you with? Delicious, tell me more!

Your shirt rode up when you took off your sweatshirt and your coworkers saw the scars from when you were whipped repeatedly? Oh boy I love that stuff!

anything that implies that whumpee and whumper have met before is always perfection.

a simple "you know what to do" from whumper when they bring whumpee back into captivity. or an "oh, you haven't told them?" when it's revealed that whumpee and whumper used to know each other in front of whumpee's team.

i also love a quietly whispered "i can't do this anymore" from whumpee to caretaker. whether they're still in whumper's clutches or struggling with recovery doesn't matter, i just love the helplessness and defeat of realising they can't keep going any longer.

whumpee who has struggled so much to talk about being sexually assaulted but really wants to - wants to process, to finally get some kind of comfort. wants someone to know what happened to them. and they just can’t get the word out, can’t find a way to articulate the ways that whumper violated them.

eventually, they manage something. just a quiet, ashamed, almost confused kind of heartbreak in their voice, “it hurt.”

whumpee trapped with whumper for so long that they start unconsciously mimicking their body language. how they tip their head to evaluate something. the way they nudge new things with their boot. the patterns they drum their fingers in when they’re thinking. even after rescue. they might be able to run but they can’t cut whumper out of where they’ve burrowed inside them.

Whumpee who holds out during torture. They're sassy, fight back, refuse to break.

They finally get saved. They smile at their rescuers through bloody teeth, joking with 'what took you so long huh?', but it's weak, their voice already trembling.

When their bonds are being cut loose, they start to show more cracks. "I- I'm sorry". They feel bad for even needing to be rescued.

Caretaker reassures them it's not their fault, and they'll always rescue them.

Whumpee has been holding out, but they were scared and in pain, and when the bonds are finally gone and Caretaker is here, they break. They're pulled up and they start crying, wiping at their face with shaky 'I'm sorry''s.

Caretaker just pulls them into a hug and lets Whumpee break.

A whumpee who HATES being pitied, coddled, or even treated just softly. Gets angry when they feel like people act like they’re made of glass. Experienced what if felt like to be weak and will never put themselves in that position again. Any possible sensitive emotion comes out as rage and aggression so no one can see them vulnerable.

Or…

A whumpee who craves that kind of tender care from others. Who’s had their lifetime’s share of being treated terribly and just wants to be held and treated gently....but doesn't quite know how to ask for it/feels shame over not being "independent" enough in their recovery.

Vincent may be aware of the multiverse (UPDATE. MORE DATA DISCOVERED)

Firstly-- credit to @XTurkValentine (Twitter) who graciously shared this information with us. They connected with mathematicians and asked them to deduce what was written in Vincent's basement, and what they discovered seems to imply something fascinating about Vincent...

According to the math professors who studied this image, Vincent used a mixture of several mathematical equations, including the following:

Calculus with integrations, differential equations, summation notations, probability, statistics, complex analysis, physics, etc.

What's more interesting is that there's evidence of quantum mechanics. For example:

∫f(ϕ(x))dx: represents integrating a function over a space

P(A)=P(B)P(A∣B): describes conditional probabilities of events

In other words-- this all suggests that Vincent is aware of the multiverse as well as how different events are affected by them. His awareness of how the planet functions may even be similarly in tune with what Sephiroth knows. This further implies that there is a small chance Vincent is also aware of Chaos and his ultimate fate when it comes to the planet's function. Granted, he may not have the whole picture as much of that should still be hidden in Lucrecia's missing files. Nevertheless, if all of this tracks, this implies that Vincent may not be quite as oblivious as he was in Dirge of Cerberus.
