Ritual Malediction
They say marriage makes the two persons involve in a relationship official and permanent. But what if it turns around? From a happy and joyful beginning ends with a tragedy and nightmare. The movie “The Bride” explains it all. But first, it was not recommended to watch since it includes a ritual beyond our imagination and also to respect what others believe.
It started when the couple went to the rest house of the family of the guy. Then strange things start to happen. The lady “Nastya” the fiancé starts to understand that there’s a ritual going to happen. Knowingly Nastya were going to be the offer for the said ritual. But it’s still love that conquers all and rise above everyone. The couple did their best and not letting themselves be apart. Meanwhile, a mothers love for her children, she made a choice to offer other people’s life, she did it to save the life of her children. But again the curse wants to bring the dead wife comes back to life so it is when the ritual started.
Loving someone so deep it can place you to either good or bad situation.

Tribal Chant
Cinema rehiyon was indeed a great experience especially for us who lives in an urban place. Films that are not usually released in televisions. But now it is being watch and witness by us, the students of the University of Makati during the celebration of Foundation Week. The different cultures and traditions that our country owns, cinema rehiyon has it all.
So I can now proceed with my blog. Chanting was a tradition signature of the Panay Bukidnon tribe. And what’s beautiful in these movie is that we hear their dialect language which is Hiligaynon and probably new for us to hear what it sounds and how entertaining it is. “The Chanters” a regional film directed by Mr. James Mayo.  The film revolves around the life of Sarah Mae and her grandfather who believes to be the last chanter of their tribe. It is like a new and old style of the flow of the story since Sarah Mae was a millennial and can cope up with the trends, while his grandfather continues to teach the chant to the new generation of the tribe including Sarah Mae. Doing his best not to forget the traditions that their tribe has for once in their life. It is good to see this type of film since it’s telling a reminder on what is happening around the country not just in our place but also theirs.  More on national expression.
Overall it was a great film. It really deserves a spot in the cinema rehiyon and hopefully they release it in different cinemas in the country. Most probably cinema rehiyon would definitely be called Philippine Cinema in the near future.

Reminiscence Towards Victory
Imagine joining a game where you don’t know what to do, what to answers. A person that doesn’t have an educational background. Who lives his life as a slumdog, a term used in India meaning very poor. This movie was all about the stages of life where from the start you have to suffer and the moments you encounter, the memories you’ll remember will suddenly result in bringing joy and hopefully be victorious. I highly recommend this movie to those who experienced being selfless and poor for once in their life who fought back and don’t give up to their dreams.
Well, this is where it all began. It started with the Indian Version of the popular game show “Who wants to be a Millionaire?” Jamal Malik the contestant in the show seemingly unconscious with the questions being asked to him but luckily he answers well. But how? Every questions given to him, all of it has something to do with his past life. It may be a coincidence that time. However he was arrested by the police who thought he was allegedly cheating.
Nowadays, being judge by others truly hurts deep inside. Being judged by how you look, standard of your life and most importantly is your character. It’s hard to define the people you’ll encounter day by day like what Jamal Malik experienced in the movie. How the host embarrassed Jamal in front of the audience knowingly he was a slumdog before.
With that interpretation we can barely see how hard to become a slumdog in India, there’s no equality being shown. But how grateful it is that a slumdog before was now a millionaire that through his experience and hardships, he became victorious in his battle for life.

Last Favor
What if you had a decent job but unfortunately end up in an unusual job. The movie “Departure” tells about that kind of story. A Japanese style or their way of serving deceased people with encoffining.  I would not recommend this movie to those who are faint-hearted or too sensitive to see dead people.
As we all know. Life comes and go but the soul lives eternity.  To handle a job that is not on your standard then definitely you’re in trouble but if you know the importance why’d you do it therefore you’ll live through it. Japan’s way of treating and cleansing the deceased body will give you a deepest sympathy for the one you love. Love them while they’re still there not when they’re gone.
Dai or Daigo Kobayashi who plays Cello well in orchestra not until it disbanded. Losing the only job he has but also his passion in life. An eager to find a job. Dai quickly apply to an agency where he taught was a traveling agency but rather a departure job for deceased bodies. He was hesitant to join until he try and days come Dai adopts the new environment he’s now living.  In life you have to accept and grab every opportunity that knocks into our doors you’ll never know it may bring success nor happiness in ourselves. So why give it a chance?
Moving on. His wife Mika was not happy about his new job and tells him to leave.  Dai tries his best to quit but there’s something like pushing Dai to continue and fulfill his role as an encoffiner.
Until the day comes when Dai’s Father died not knowing the reason. Dai doesn’t want to encoffin his own father because he left him together with his mother and find another mistress. It is only Dai who can encoffin him since it was still his father no matter what happens. So it was his last glance to sight his father but only in a sad way.
We may not know where our creator going to take our lives. Let’s just be thankful how beautiful life is and appreciate every person who comes in our life.

Wealth or Sorrow
It’s hard to make a decision in life where you have to choose between the positive or negative side of life. Temptations will take over and could bring the worst for ourselves. “Amores Perros” a movie that will take you to the real world where love and money plays a big role.  When translated “Love is a Bitch” a Mexican movie directed by Mexican film director, producer, and screenwriter Alejandro González Iñárritu. It was not recommended to watch especially for those who have pets or shall we say pet-lover because there are many scenes that are too inappropriate to watch. Three different stories all connected and dogs involved in every stories showing how cruel and brutal they are towards on what we called “man’s bestfriend”.
In the first story entitled “Octavio Y Susana”, you may want to close your eyes at the start of the movie because there are some brutal scenes where dogs are fighting and use them to gambling.  But the main character here Octavio was so deeply in-love with Susana even though she already had a husband and a baby. He insist and proves his love towards Susana. With Cofi the dog of Octavio used him to earn money so she can give Susana some cash to sustain the needs of the baby. But love was really a bitch? At this point where money was more powerful than love.
“Daniel Y Valeria” the two lovers whom their life revolves around their dog Richie. Which Valeria consciously lose. That leads her to an accident not knowing her leg would be amputated. Only to find out that she could not work anymore as a model. Daniel exemplify a person who is careless towards the dog and disloyalty with his family.
“El Chivo Y Maru” once a professor now a hitman. That’s how rough life is for El Chivo. Who’s trying to make closure with his daughter Maru. But her mother lies to her telling that his father already died. El Chivo was preparing himself to kill a businessman but behind him was a car crash accident. He rushed to the scene to steal rather than to help the injured people.  Octavio sees Susana for the first time after she left with his husband with his money in the funeral of his brother which is apparently the husband of Susana Ramiro.
They say that there’s an happy ending in love. But in this case, it’s not true, in every story there are no love being shown. But many people have said if you love someone love them for who they are and not on what they have.

Life’s Greatest Blessing
A movie that will capture your heart. A story that would embrace the love for the family. No matter how hard the circumstances in life there’s always be the success awaits you. The film shows the inner strength we have when faced with adversity.
Children of Heaven is a contemporary Iranian film about families, compassion, moral responsibilities and issues of limited resources. It follows the lives of two siblings who are forced to share one pair of shoes after an unfortunate accident. Which they don’t want to saddle with their struggling parents. So the both of them must work together and find a solution to deal with the significant loss. It relates to people who apparently lose the value of a thing which worth the most.
The siblings had to struggle with their everyday living going to school nevertheless they’ve never give up on the loss and still continue to live their life with hardships and compassion. Overcoming your problems was not that easy there’s people who will bother you and even challenge you, and with that it’s going to be tougher to face the reality of life. But it’s not too late to work hard and be passionate on what you’re doing because in the end all of it would going to pay-off. Its love who bonded the both of them to pursue what they want to achieve, to bring back what’s loss. Its love and care between the two. Understanding the financial situation of the family and sharing is caring indeed.
It was highly recommendable movie to watch. It was appropriate for both adults and kids, children will enjoy it more. It shows the love for every member of the family. Work together towards success.

Christmas Unites Us
We know we hate warfare but what if it happens on Christmas day. Well, war is war but that’s not always the point because love will always stand above everyone.  Today, let’s review the movie “Joyeux Noel” it’s a 2005 epic war drama film. It was written and directed by Christian Carion who is a French film director, dialogue writer and screenwriter. It picture the soldiers of France, Britain and Germany.
The movie begins with the 3 students each from the 3 countries. Reciting their respective patriotic speech that promotes their country but at the same time criticize other country. In Scotland, there were two brothers, Jonathan and William who worked at the church who’s waiting for a war and once they knew battle was going to erupt they eagerly join the war. While in Germany, Sprink is having his performance but he was interrupted by the soldiers because they need some reinforcement from the people.  Audebert also in the war, included in the French army whom they’re ready to battle. However they fail some of their men goes down and many are killed.
Back in Germany, Sprink has to accompany Anna who is a performer who is willing to perform for the soldier to release some pressure in the midst of war. Afterwards its Sprink who perform for the troops. The unofficial agreement starts when the Scots begin to sing joyful song. As Sprink sings “Silent Night” he slowly walk towards the enemy line with a small Christmas Tree and everyone agreed to cease-fire for the evening. Everyone reach out to help their fellow soldiers and greeted them a Merry Christmas. They celebrated a Mass for soldiers and they we’re all moved by the deep message of the priest. However, Jonathan doesn’t feel anything he just chose to grieve for his brother.
Embarrassment rise as the battalion disbanded with Father Palmer as he goes back to the Parish.  There still be the benefit of the agreement that they hope it will bring back the humanity and goodwill but the bishop disagrees as he proclaim that the German soldiers act inhumane towards their new recruits
Back in the fight, the Scots were ordered by their Major that anyone who will pass the borderline should be kill especially Germans. The soldiers consciously shot a German Soldier. Audebert hears a familiar sound which is an alarm clock ringing outside the battlefield and discovers that the soldier who was shot was Ponchel. With no time left before he dies, Ponchel said that he’s been help by the German soldiers who arrange the visit to his mother and had a great time with her. Ponchel also adds that he has a young son named Henri.
Hortsmayer and his troops, who are on the train, they are advised by the Crown Prince that they are to be board to the Easter Front. In sadness they would not be able to see their family as they passed by Germany. Many have said that Hortsmayer iron cross does not deserved to be his. As the train goes the German troops started singing carol that they’ve learned from the Scots entitled “I’m Dreaming of Home”.

The Menace Love Brings
We know each of every one of us wants to watch movies or shall we say like to movie marathon. We have our own types or categories of movies we would like to watch. Some’s are sci-fi, action, adventure, etc. But in this case the movie we just watched recently was all about imagination and maybe fiction. The title of the movie is “Sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag” it is a 1986 Filipino movie novel whom directed by Lino Brocka, a Filipino film director. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and significant Filipino filmmakers in the history of Philippine cinema. Of course with respect to the author Edgardo M. Reyes who is a Filipino male novelist. It was not advisable to watch this movie for kids age under 13. It is best to watch this movie with the guidance of the parents. Because in the movie there’s a scene that may not be appropriate for kids.
At the first glance of the movie you can see people lurking around the streets just like how a normal day goes. Julio Madiaga casted by Bembol Roco the main character in the movie speak on behalf of those people nowadays who resettle in the city to find some fortune for work and in search of his betrothed named Ligaya which played by Hilda Koronel. Ligaya is brought to Manila by Mrs. Cruz (Juling Bagabaldo) and was promised to be treated well and to be given proper education.  She was hesitant at first, but her mother insisted that she goes.  Feeling obligated to help her mother rise from the poverty in the province, Ligaya goes with Mrs. Cruz with high hopes.  Those high hopes, however, were soon tarnished when Ligaya discovers that she was brought to Manila to be a prostitute along with two other women from her barrio.  She is then met by a greater poverty than what she had grown accustomed to back in her province. In order to survive Manila, Julio needs to find a regular job, and so he results to being a low-waged construction worker.  He is expected to work for eight hours carrying heavy load and not to mention risking his life at the construction site on a daily basis. Which actually relates to our fellow people who works at construction in exchange of low salary. So it’s one of the reason why this movie is somewhat related these days. And as well as the prostitution because women doesn’t have an idea on what they are doing in their life that something would be loss in their part of being a female and possibly worst scenario may end to suicide.
Meanwhile, Julio continues his search for Ligaya and it comes to point where it was unrelenting. But the problem doesn’t end there for Julio. Julio soon dispelled from his work at the construction site. And so Julio found some new ways to attain money that also ends in prostitution.  The movie ends with many people chasing Julio he had just killed who thinks Ligayas partner. Julio has nowhere to run to escape he was trap in a dead end. As people surrounds him, they can be seen picking up the things that they see that they can use to attack Julio. The scene slows down at the sights of Julio’s face seeing the emotions of Julio – terror, anger, sorrow
Maynila: Sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag was probably the most dominant movie ever produced in the Philippines in the world of cinema. It portrays the situation we face in our daily lives. The illness of the society to know what is right from what is wrong. But it was a great movie overall with the great actors and actresses who portray their role a job well done. The settings is great it is appropriate for every scene of the movie

Aspiration for the Love that vanish
Going in an adventure is fun but traveling is more exciting. This takes place in the movie “Siargao” which is a candidate for Metro Manila Film Festival. The movie is directed by Paul David Soriano who is a Filipino commercial and film director and producer. It is a 2017 Philippine surf romance film starring Jericho Rosales, Erich Gonzales, and Jasmine Curtis-Smith. It is a great movie to watch therefore it’s good to recommend this film for everyone because it tells about life and the circumstances of love.
The movie starts with the main character Diego Punzalan (Jericho Rosales) arguing with someone on the phone and it can be seen that he was so angry to whom he was talking. Day after, Diego booked a flight to Siargao to escape the toxic life in Manila. In the plane, there’s a vlogger named Laura Molina (Erich Gonzales) whose job is to talk in-front of the camera. Joyful she is she didn’t even notice the seat she was seating wasn’t for her instead it is for Diego who boards the plane with her. Diego looks familiar to Laura because of his fame playing in his band called Diego project band. So she was grateful to seat beside him.
After hours of flight, they finally arrive at Siargao. With too much attention to the camera Laura was left behind by the van that would supposedly bring her to her Villa. Luckily Diego was still there waiting for his service, then Diego tease Laura for her continuous use of camera for the vlogs. Edong (Luke Landrigan) arrives to fetch Diego who calls him by his nickname Jigs it is a good friend of him living in Siargao. Then Diego offer Laura to let them accompany her to her destination so Laura has no choice but to say yes. On the road, Diego tells a lot of story on what he misses in Siargao and he asked Laura why she was here in Siargao which they both asked questions to themselves. Diego answered that Siargao was his hometown as well as his birthplace while Laura replied she was going through a break-up and wants to find herself in a peaceful place. Siargao is indeed the best place to surf said by the two Edong and Diego. So they make a stop to a near beach to surf and they invite Laura to join them but she refuses and instead she’ll just wait in the car. As they finish surfing, they already send Laura to her Villa to rest. As Laura booked a room, a guy approaches her and introduce his name Oliver (Will Dasovich) since she is already there he invited her to a party called Despedida afterwards Oliver introduced Laura to his friends Belay (Roxanne Barcelo), Tommy (Will Devaughn), Abi (Jasmin Curtis-Smith) and Ikit who is a champion surfer in Siargao. On the other hand, Edong escorts Diego on his way to their house which is actually his brother’s house. Diego immediately looks for his family if they are still living in the house and yes they were still there. His mother is preparing their dinner as Diego sees him in the kitchen, then he looks for his brother Step which her mother told that he was with Abi. Karen the youngest was busy planning and organizing the project in the mayor’s office.
Midnight comes, all of them has arrive at the house and they are happily eating together as they are complete as a family. Meanwhile, Diego sees Abi in the living room waiting for Step and it took his attention from eating. Back in the Villa, where Laura was emotional because she watched the video of his ex-boyfriend proposing to her but she still continue to be strong. It was now time for the Despedida party where Laura comes by her own holding her camera vlogging what’s happening at the party. Diego comes to the party too and he consciously hit Laura and again they meet. While the party was going on Laura said to him that she will just take a pee. After Laura goes, Diego sees Abi in the party as well drinking alone. So Diego approaches Abi and join her. Laura saw the two of them having fun at their conversation so she didn’t even bother them. But Abi was not going to stay long at the party so she has to go early. It’s Laura’s turn to join Diego drinking. He gave tips to Laura on her arrival in the island.
Tip number 1 is “expect the people you see is the same person you’ll meet at the same party” since the island was just small. Tip number 2 is “Make Friends” and he dares Laura to do it and once she does he’ll treat Laura a drink. Laura agrees to the challenge and start making friends but as soon as he approached someone no one would notice her because she was holding her camera the entire time meeting people. But she never lose hope until this foreigner guy who he asked if she has a boyfriend and knowing where she lives. From afar, Diego knows already the plan of the guy so he immediately run towards Laura and pretend that he was her boyfriend to prevent the bad ideas of the guy. The two are now going home from the party. As they ride a motorcycle, he gave the tip number 3 which is “Welcome to the island life” and they drove off. Day passed by, Laura goes for a walk by herself she goes to a Filipino-Italian restaurant which serve comfort food. There she meets Abi, and her new friend Belay, they talked about their private life including why they stay in Siargao, Abi suddenly mentioned that Siargao is the best place to surf and she quickly asked Laura if she already surf in the island. The three of them now goes to the beach to surf, but actually it is only Laura who will surf and she meets Wilmar (Wilmar Milendo) a surfer instructor. Now they go surfing as Laura enjoying to dance with the waves while Abi watches her. Diego who also arrives at the beach not knowing they are here too until she saw Abi. Asking her who is she with. Hours had passed it is Diego and Laura left in the beach, this time they talked about Abi, Laura gains information from Wilmar that the two of them had an affair. Now they’re finish talking. In the house of Diego in his room he watches his band controversy and scandal video. The reason why Diego goes to Siargao to escape the toxic life in Manila and leave his band. The final day comes for Laura at Siargao. But before that she watches the video she never finished which is the proposal video where she didn’t say yes to her boyfriend in the video which is Mikey (Enchong Dee) who also uploads video on the internet. Laura prevails and bravely calls Mikey in the phone to make things clear and forgive her and give him a second chance. A concert was held by the beach where Diego has a production number and he sings a song dedicated to someone they love. Abi and Laura was present at the concert and both of them were moved and hit by the song. Laura walks out in the concert crying and as well as Abi. Before dawn, the flight of Laura has arrived and boards the plane. While Diego chose to stay at Siargao because he was home and wants to be with Abi because in the years of stay of Diego in Siaragao in the past he had an affair with Abi which is not going well, so he insist to go but rather stay on the island to make things right. In the plane, Laura continues to vlog on her way back to Manila. As Laura arrives in the airport, Mikey was already there waiting for her, with love Laura and Mikey hug each other and they forgive the both of them. And that’s the ending of the movie.
Siargao is a tear-drop shaped island in the Philippine Sea and considered to be one of the best spot to surf. Not just the movie showing the message of love but also promotes the beauty of the island.

Indomitable Love for Women
We’ve all been in the situation where we just want to write and imagine something that happened in our lives. As time passed by the memories you’ve written suddenly flashback. This is exactly what happens in the beginning of the film entitled “Moulin Rouge” a 2001 Australian-American musical that lies on the category of romantic comedy film directed, co-produced, and co-written by Baz Luhrmann who is an Australian film and theatre director, screenwriter, producer, and record producer. He is known for a distinctive, colorful visual style with strong musical influences. It is a movie that is recommended for everyone to watch since it depicts love through different forms and proves love conquers all.
It all begins in the year 1900. A British columnist named Christian (Ewan McGregor) who has melancholy embark on writing at his typewriter. As he relates to the story the movie had a quick flashback when he moves to the Montmartre district of Paris where sex, drugs, and other taboo things rule. As he moved to Montmartre district of Paris, Christian met some people whom uncover themselves as performers led by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (John Leguizamo). They turn their backs into Christian that he was so good in writing so indeed they ask for his help to come up with useful ideas to finish the show they’ve been doing which is titled “Spectacular Spectacular”. Christian agrees to help them afterwards they’ve proceeded and go to Moulin Rouge where many shows, performance and entertainments happens which owned by Harold Zidler (Jim Broadbent). It is this guy whom supposed to buy their work of spectacular spectacular. While on the other hand Henri is preparing Christian to see Satine (Nicole Kidman) so they can present their work to her. While Zidler was promising Satine that the Duke of Monroth (Richard Roxburgh) was possibly gonna invest in the show.
Then unexpected things happen, Satine mistakenly identified Christian as the Duke. They talked privately in Satine’s room to talk about the show. But Satine realizes that he was only a writer. Sooner the Duke arrived and to hide the words they’re talking about, Christian and Satine started dancing to pretend that they we’re practicing for the show. Now the Duke and Satine have their own conversation and so Zidler comes to join them. They told to the Duke that there will be an interesting plot in the play about Maharajah trying to gain the love of courtesan. Christian can’t hide his feelings toward Satine, it comes to the point where he said that they should be together in the show. As a result, they couldn’t stop seeing each other until the Duke notice something between the two. The Duke with anger talks to Zidler and warns him that he would stop investing in the show if the two wouldn’t stop. But hours later, Satine got ill and the doctor who treats her told Zidler that she doesn’t have more days to live but Zidler doesn’t want to add damage to Satine so instead he keeps it to himself.
Days come they started rehearsing for the show, suddenly there’s a fellow performer who said that the show must not go with what they are practicing. Instead the courtesan must choose the maharajah in the ending of the play. Satine must stay with the Duke, he intends to rape Satine luckily one of the cabaret’s male dancers came and saved her. Quickly she rush to Christian to run away with him. The Duke approaches Zidler and said he will kill Christian if Satine would not end up with him. Satine doesn’t want to leave Christian until Zidler unfold the truth about her sickness that she doesn’t have long to live. For the love for Christian she must stay with the Duke and prove to him that she loves him in order to save Christian’s life from being killed.
Christian refuses her love to be taken away from him. So he goes to Moulin Rouge to follow her but he is not allowed to go in. He finds another way to sneak inside. There he see Satine before she steps on the stage and wants to hear from her that she does not live him. But the curtains lift and the show centered on them. With the audience reaction Zidler made a statement to excuse what’s not supposed to be in the script and told to the audience that Christian is the sitar player. Christian condemn his love for Satine and walks off the stage. But Toulouse shout "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return". Satine urges to sing the song Christian wrote about love without hesitation he comes back to the stage to sing it with her. The jealously Duke ordered his bodyguard to shoot Christian but they are prevented by Toulouse troop who stopped the guy from killing Christian. The Duke knew the guard fails him so he did it by himself but again it was stopped by Zidler. With nothing to do, the Duke walks out from the show while Christian and Satine finishes their song. After the show at the backstage, they confess their love for each other and tells Christian to write their love story. But the time comes for Satine her body give-up from tuberculosis. Since then the Moulin Rouge has closed down, and that’s the time where Christian finishes writing their story of love for Satine, a "love that will live forever".
Most people have experienced the overwhelming feeling of love, thereby understanding that in the end, nothing will stand in its way.

Maynila: “Sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag” (Lino Brocka, 1975)

First of all, it was not advisable to watch this movie for kids age under 13. Still I recommend this to watch the movie best with the guardian of the parents. Because in the movie there’s a scene that may not be appropriate for kids obviously I would not say it here. The story revolves around a man facing the harsh reality of the world.
At the first glance of the movie you can see people lurking around the streets just like how a normal day goes.
The settings is great it is appropriate for every scene of the movie.
