Still, my nose didn’t lie. It was never wrong. Working this job was calm. Mostly. It was a step up from how I’d been doing when I first showed up, dazed and upset, in the bustling city. A strange new alternate world that I appeared to be very stuck in. Superheroes I didn’t recognize. Places I’d never seen before. The five stages of grief were killer. I still hadn’t quite come to the ‘acceptance’ part yet. I missed my team and the familiar things of my old life every day. I spent long nights working late, trying to distract myself. Kent’s subtle odd behaviors became a staple of my work days. He always looked like he was trying not to break something, as if he was wary of his own strength. That made me certain too of this guy’s background but today wasn’t a ‘watch Kent struggle to act human’ day. I’d been busy editing an attempt at a column that was about the multiverse theory. How painfully ironic. Not a typical Daily Planet topic. That’s partially why I perked up over the task.
