ERASE the idea that America saved lives by dropping two atomic bombs on Japan from your minds. ERASE the idea that it was anything more than a political move to scare Russia and also to satiate US curiosity as to the true ability of nuclear weapons. Nagasaki and Hiroshima were not military bases. They were heavily populated civilian cities chosen precisely bc the U.S. wanted to see how many people an atomic bomb could kill in one go. Japan was on the verge of surrendering, the U.S. literally wanted to test out their nuclear weapons on people that they deemed disposable. That is it. If those bombs were dropped by any nation other than the US veryone involved would have been tried as war criminals.

It is my birthday. I made it to 40. Which is...so wild to me because I did not plan on it. Sorry to be grim, I am being honest. I'm very taken back by it and admittedly have been in a funk. (If you have been reaching out to me and haven't heard anything, this is why. Sorry. I'll get back to you soon, y'all know who you are.)
Ultimately... I am happy to be here. I am happy to know the people in my life and remove the not so good ones, and still think fondly of the ones in social limbo, and I hope they know wherever they are that I miss them. I am happy to share my work and make my small mark, a single atom in a vast ocean, in this tiny window we get on earth's history. And I've made a whole lot of art. You can check my archive with work from 2011 to now, some of which I still enjoy. Some not so much. It's growth. Part of growing is fucking around, making mistakes (hopefully mostly harmless ones), and learning from it. That's what art making has taught me, anyway.
I am also very much looking for work. The times are bad, but hey if you have a project or want something cool to put in your home, reach out. My portfolio is here:

Or if you're feeling generous and want to make the debt bills not sting so bad, you're welcome to drop some coin here: https://ko-fi.com/mxmorgan
Thanks for sharing this window of precious life with me and inviting my work into your lives.

most notable times of being hit on by customers:
guy who tried to impress me with card tricks and failed every single one of them
old man who attempted to get my number when his wife walked away and slipped me his email address ending with “@ aol.com” when i said i don’t do that
cute gay couple that came back to tell me i was cute and then called the shop to ask me out
older professor who i talked to about folklore and told me he dressed as a wizard for recitals saying “this is really embarrassing but umm.. i’d love to get to know you more..” and gave me a receipt with his email address on it
dude in his 40s asking me on a movie date and me saying yes but then he kept starting text conversations with “ahoi hoi”
military guy who said it’d be hot if i killed him with a baseball bat
most notable time a customer did not ask me out:
a man who i knew had a wife and children getting really flustered and saying “um. ive been, uh.. idk if you remember me but um. i come in here a lot and ive uhhh haha umm ive been wanting to ask you for a couple weeks now.. um. have you read the green lantern issue i recommended??????”

i had a dream two nights ago where i was being shown around a fancy medieval port, and my guide said "this coast used to have two ports, Mangeet and Totoga, but in recent years we've combined them both into one - Port ManTo" and i actually woke up with a fucking start

So there's talk of reintroducing brown bears to California. I think this one's going to be a tougher sell than wolves; in North America, attacks on humans by wolves are exceedingly rare, while there are multiple attacks by brown bears each year. To be fair, black bears also account for a significant number of bear attacks, but they also have a much wider range, and they are more likely to be habituated to people by being fed, whether intentionally or not.
That being said, your chances of being attacked by any wild animal (other than mosquitoes and biting flies) are quite slim, and the vast majority of hikes and camping trips go without incident. Even in Yellowstone, with its abundance of both brown bears and tourists with an apparent death wish ("let's get closer to that bear/bison/moose/elk for a selfie!"), conflicts with bears are quite rare.
The places where brown bears would be reintroduced would be very remote; no one's talking about dropping them in the middle of the L.A. metro area. And they tend to be less comfortable around humans than black bears, so it's likely they'd stay out of the way. People in areas where brown bears are still extant have a variety of ways to prevent conflict when out hiking or camping, from carrying bear spray to storing food in bear-proof canisters, and these would work just as well in California as in Montana.
The key, of course, will be education. But then this is the case with all coexistence with wildlife. One of the strengths of funding our parks and refuges is so they can have more rangers and other employees on hand to help make sure people have safe, enjoyable visits. they can fold information about avoiding conflicts with brown bears along with all the other valuable knowledge they share with the general public.

Good US news because I think we all could use some of it:
The Marines are to be withdrawn from LA. The extreme escalation many of us feared did not happen thanks to the people of LA and the soldiers themselves who said "no".
The "Good Trouble Lives On" protests may not have been as big as the previous "Hands Off" and "No Kings" protests (likely due to heat + being planned on a weekday), but still 1.6k protests were held across the USA with thousands joining in with the peaceful protest.
The Trump administration has been ordered to restore $6.2 million in grant funding to nine LGBTQ+ and HIV-related nonprofits. This is fantastic.
Pittsburgh City Council has passed bills to protect its LGBTQ+ citizens.
California has stepped up to partner with and support The Trevor Project. Let's go, Cali!
Another win for California: Reports show that California is powered by two-thirds clean energy. This is a historic first and it keeps getting better!
The ACLU of Louisiana has secured the release of two wrongfully detained Iranian LSU students.
The Republican governor of New Hampshire has defied her party and shot down a book banning bill.
Shareholders have pushed back on corporations' anti-DEI proposals, forcing companies to face the fact that diversity is good for business... And reminds us that the majority does not agree with the removal of DEI, no matter what MAGA wants us to believe.
Since November, 69 of the 110 Supreme Court lawyers tasked with defending the Trump admin's policies have quit.
Don't let anyone tell you that there isn't hope, that there aren't people fighting and working and just as scared and angry as you are. You are not alone. Peaceful protests, contacting reps, and simple non-cooperation is how we sustainably and successfully push back against authoritarianism.
"We're cooked" is the devil talking. Giving up, rolling over, and perpetuating the idea that we've already failed is exactly what MAGA wants. Don't give them the satisfaction. Don't make it easy. Continue to look after each other and support your communities where you can. Keep protesting, keep calling, keep writing, keep loving. The heart is a muscle the size of your fist; we can get through this as long as we continue to stand up and say "no".

when i first heard about the male loneliness epidemic i was like oh yeah close camaraderie and bonding between men is often discouraged in favor of competition or, if not discouraged, at least filtered through a lens of individualism that precludes deep connections. and then i learned what people meant by it (men arent getting laid) to which i say skill issue
