🍞 Afternoon Tea with Papa: What’s on the Tray today?
(Upset tummy comfort edition)
🍵 A small teapot of peppermint tea. Calming, light, & very good for unsettled little stomachs.
🍞 Two slices of plain white toast that have been very lightly buttered and cut into triangles for you.
❄️ A cool linen cloth, folded neatly. I gently press it to your forehead periodically, whenever I notice you begin looking uncomfortable again.
🍯 A little dish of honey in case you wish to add some to your tea for sweetness. I will make sure you don’t add too much & hurt your stomach.
“Here, little one,” I say as I set the tray down next to you. “We’ll take it slow today. No need to rush.”
There’s no pressure to eat anything. No pressure to speak. Just warmth, softness, & lots of care…
This is your recovery ritual. A quiet way of saying: even when you don’t feel your best you are more than worthy of attention, gentleness, and love.
I’ll take care of you. You always deserve that.

Iced Lemon Biscuits 🍋
A delicate treat for those soft afternoons. Crisp, fragrant, and glazed with sweetness. They taste like sunshine in every bite. Perfect when served with a cold glass of milk or warm chamomile tea.

Ingredients
For the biscuits:
• 100g (½ cup) unsalted butter, softened
• 75g (⅓ cup) caster sugar
• 1 egg yolk
• Zest of 1 lemon
• 1 tsp lemon juice
• 150g (1¼ cups) plain flour
• Pinch of salt
For the icing:
• 100g (¾ cup) icing sugar
• 1-2 tbsp lemon juice
• Optional: extra zest or pastel sprinkles
Instructions
1. Cream the butter and sugar. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy.
2. Add the lemon and egg. Mix in the egg yolk, lemon zest, and lemon juice. The mixture should smell fresh and bright.
3. Stir in the flour. Sift the flour and salt into the bowl. Stir until a soft dough forms. If it’s too sticky, add a touch more flour.
4. Chill. Form the dough into a disc, wrap in cling film, and chill in the fridge for approx 30 minutes.
5. Roll & cut. Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan)/350°F. Roll out the dough onto a lightly floured surface to about ½ cm thickness. Cut into any shape you like.
6. Bake. Place on a parchment-lined tray and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just golden. Remove and allow to cool completely.
7. Mix icing sugar with lemon juice until smooth and slightly runny. Spoon or drizzle over the now fully cooled biscuits. Feel free to decorate with a few curls of lemon zest or tiny sprinkles if desired.
“A dozen delicious little suns in biscuit form.”

aw, sweetheart, you're not feeling well today? okay, hm, let's try a few things and see if they make you feel a little better, okay?
⋆ have you taken your meds today? if not, please do so. your body might be upset because it doesn't have its medicine!
⭒ drink some water! even just a little can make a huge difference.
⋆ eat something! it doesn't have to be a big meal. a small snack is good, too! getting any kind of fuel in your tummy is better than no fuel at all.
⭒ clean yourself up! a shower or bath can help you relax and feel fresh. if you don't have the energy or motivation for that, it's okay! there's many other ways you can freshen yourself up: brush your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face, put on deodorant, use dry shampoo, wipe yourself down with a wet rag or baby wipes, put on lotion, etc.
⋆ move around! take a walk outside, pace around your room, dance to music you love (you could play a fun game like just dance!), play a game like tag or soccer, or even just stretch while you're in bed! both your body and mind will thank you for getting some movement in.
⭒ tidy your space up! you don't have to do a full deep cleaning of your room. picking up a few things and putting them away is just as good. a cleaner space can improve your mood a ton!
⋆ talk to someone! it can be anyone: a friend, a family member, a partner, a caregiver, or even someone new. talk about your interests, a show, the weather, or whatever else you feel like! having someone to talk to can make you feel less lonely and a lot happier.
⭒ do something that makes you happy! you can enjoy a hobby you love, or try a new hobby. you could watch a movie, read a book, or play a game. whatever you want, kiddo!
⋆ get some sleep! having a consistent bedtime and getting over 8 hours of sleep is very important for a little mind like yours. you can always grab your favorite stuffies and take a nap during the day. they'd love to cuddle with you while you get some rest!
i hope you feel better soon, sweetheart!

You’re not “too sensitive” for needing calm. You’re not “too damaged” for craving stability. Wanting to feel safe isn’t a flaw, it's a human need. You deserve calm. You deserve softness. You deserve people who don’t make you feel like you have to apologize for existing.

Healing isn't linear. You are allowed to have hard days. You are allowed to need support. And none of that takes away the strength it takes to keep going.

Today, I encourage you to build yourself a nest.
Find the coziest corner you can. Perhaps by the window where the light is gentle, or underneath a table where you can pretend you’re inside a cave.
Gather cushions, quilts, and blankets. Layer them until you feel hidden and held. Let yourself relax & sink down into your nest. Fully cradled in comfort.
Keep your favourite plush nearby (or several). Let them keep watch while you rest. Maybe one gets to join you inside your nest so you can cuddle it.
There’s nothing you need to do in your nest, only exist. Breathe in & out slowly as the world softens.
If I were there, I would come check on you after a while and ask if there was anything else you need. Then I would smile softly & murmur, “Very good, little one. You’ve made yourself a sanctuary.”

For littles who like drawing and colouring! Remember it's okay if you colour outside the lines. It's okay if something isn't the "right" colour. It's okay if it looks like a physical kid did it. It's okay if it looks like a physical adult did it. It's okay if you have cheap supplies. It's okay if you have expensive supplies. It's okay to put it up on the fridge. It's okay to keep it just for yourself. No matter what, all that's important is you had fun💚

hey, kiddo. just a reminder that you are absolutely not a bad person for prioritizing your own mental health.
you spent most of your day regressed and didn't get many tasks done? that's perfectly fine, sweetheart. regressing is you taking care of yourself. never be ashamed of that.
don't think about what you didn't do today; think about what you did do. be proud of it, no matter how small or big the task was.
i'm proud of what you did today. i'm proud of you for taking care of your mental health. you deserve to feel good.
