Doha trip. Qatar Timelapse & Hyperlapse from Kirill Neiezhmakov on Vimeo.
Picture an impressive skyline with buildings that are so innovative they verge on being works of art, and a waterfront promenade that effortlessly houses the traditional alongside the ultra-modern.

Doha has risen out of the desert, fuelled by innovation and an energetic passion. The result is a city that has very quickly transformed from a humble pearl diving and fishing village to one of the most important and dynamic destinations in the Middle East. The Qatari capital is the base for multi-billion-dollar businesses, glamorous malls, and a myriad of attractions. Home to people from all cultural backgrounds, Doha stands out with its booming cultural diversity.
For centuries, Doha was a fishing village known for its pearl trade. The country’s pearl divers were famed for their skill in finding the largest and most perfectly formed pearls, and the original village (which was known as Al Bidda) was also a busy fishing port for generations. With the wealth gained from the oil trade in the 20th century, Doha became one of the key commercial centres for the entire region. Today, it is the economic and metropolitan centre of the State of Qatar and an epicentre for business and finance in the Middle East.
Doha, Arabic Al-Dawḥah, city, capital of Qatar, located on the east coast of the Qatar Peninsula in the Persian Gulf. More than two-fifths of Qatar’s population lives within the city’s limits. Situated on a shallow bay indented about 3 miles (5 km), Doha has long been a locally important port. Because of offshore coral reefs and shallow waters, it handled only small vessels until the completion of its deepwater port in the 1970s.
The original quarter of the city, Al-Bidaʿ, Bida in sailor’s parlance, is at the northwest; it was probably founded by members of the Sudan tribe who emigrated from the sheikhdom of Abu Dhabi. Long a centre of pirate activity in the Persian Gulf, Doha, then a small village, was destroyed in 1867 in the war between Bahrain (which was aided by Abu Dhabi) and Qatar. In the following year the British government installed Muḥammad ibn Thānī Āl Thānī, sheikh of Doha, as the premier ruler of Qatar. He agreed to abide by the terms of the Perpetual Maritime Truce of 1853, and piracy was greatly reduced. In the late 19th century the Ottoman Empire, as suzerain of much of the Arabian Peninsula, sporadically maintained a garrison at Doha. After Qatar became a British protected state in 1916, a British political agency was maintained in the town. In late 1971 Doha became the capital of newly independent Qatar.
Long a sleepy pearling and fishing village, Doha had about 350 pearling boats at the beginning of the 20th century. The development of Japanese cultured pearls and the worldwide economic depression of the 1930s severely affected the town. The development of Qatar’s considerable oil reserves after World War II, however, led to a complete economic transformation. Qatar became an extremely prosperous country with a high per capita income and undertook the thorough modernization of its capital. Old slum sections were razed, and modern commercial and residential quarters were built. Doha’s water supply is obtained by distilling seawater. The deepwater port accommodates oceangoing vessels. The Qatar National Fishing Company, using modern motorized craft, is headquartered at the port, where a modern shrimp-packing plant also has been built.
Sites of interest include Clock Tower Square, the souk (marketplace), and Government House (1969), built on reclaimed waterfront land. Further cultural developments include the establishment of a world-class Museum of Islamic Art (2008; designed by I.M. Pei) on an island offshore. Doha International Airport is located just southeast of the city.

10 NIGHTS UNDER THE NORTHERN LIGHTS - The aurora chasing adventure through Lapland 2/3 from Adrien Mauduit Films on Vimeo.
The Aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, are a mind-boggling natural phenomenon that virtually everyone talks about but never really gets to see it. As an astrophotographer I have now seen and photographed lots of aurorae, but every time it's a new excitement and a whole new experience as if I had never seen them. The lights change shapes, colors, speed or brightness and when you think you've seen it all, Lady aurora proves you wrong.
I traveled to the cold corners of Lapland (Sweden and Norway) on a ten-day aurora chasing adventure to shoot them but mostly to share their rare beauty in real-time. My goal was to show their different appearances in pristine skies and snow covered landscapes. In the mean time I was eager to bring back my best real-time shots yet and give them back to the people that have never witnessed such a show and encourage them to go out or travel. For me though it was merely one more astrophotography and personal life challenge I had to take on. I had never shot in such cold conditions, namely minus 35 degrees at the worst, but it helped me get some of the clearest night shots I have ever witnessed.
In the second episode of this trilogy called 'the magic of the northern fjords', I spent some time wandering about the scenic landscapes of the island of Senja. I met with Anders and Magnus Hanssen from the Northern lights Observatory in Senja to collaborate. They let me visit the observatory and take advantage of the great views there in exchange for some of my material and time to guide the guests, and also run the live stream. It was such an amazing adventure there and they are so welcoming! It's one of the best place in the world to admire the aurora in an unbelievable area (you can visit visitsenja.live for booking). You can even approach the reindeers and feed them under the norther lights. During my time close to the lukewarm shore (compared to minus 20 within the island), I was able to catch some unbelievable greens and purples but most importantly of all some jaw-dropping coronas. But stay put because the last episode is probably the most dramatic! It's coming out soon.
Shot exclusively on the Sony a7s and Sigma 24 f/1.4, Sigma 50mm f/1.4. Please contact me at [email protected] for licensing or other inquiries.

Baroque socialism underneath the palms. '58 Chevys in 16th century cities. But what struck me the most during our trip to Cuba were the people. Natural, well tempered people despite all the hardships the regime imposes upon them. This film is dedicated to them.
Me and my little Miss took the route from the North to the South and back again: Havana, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, La Boca, Manaca Iznaga, the village of San Juan and finally Varadero. First, the soundtrack was composed according along the theme "Life". Nobumichi Asai and Shingo Abe was inspired by the music and then made face mapping work. Aya Sato designed choreography. TOKYO completed the project by making the video work.
The music brought Asai the image of “the radioactive.” The destructive force of the radioactive could cause “death,” “suffering,” and “sorrow.” And “prayers” could overcome them. These subjects infuse AYABAMBI’s powerful performance. Their performance crushes and conquer black tears, skulls and the Heart Sutra. We built up the concept during the production and Abe designed animation for face mapping.
There was a big challenge in technical aspects. We realized the new mapping system that allows us to follow intense performances by using the latest 1,000 fps projector, DynaFlash(*1) and a super speed sensor. It is very new and it had not been done before. Projected images become part of their skin and they transform their faces.
At the beginning of our development, there was an issue, AYABAMBI would loose freedom of performances if we accelerated the tracking speed. Asai, Yoshimura (WOW), Lecturer Watanabe and Teshima (EXVISION) explored how we could keep the tracking speed securing the freedom of performances, taking three months of trial and error to reduce a few milliseconds. And we finally developed this system(*2).
*1 “DynaFlash” is developed jointly by Ishikawa Watanabe Laboratory, the University of Tokyo and is commercialized by Tokyo Electron Device Limited.
*2 For tracking hands, we use the dynamic projection mapping technology developed by Ishikawa Watanabe Laboratory, the University of Tokyo. For tracking faces, we use the face mapping technology developed by the visual design studio, WOW inc.
