Theres this Guy at my Job. And everyday when he comes in hes wearing the same Tshirt and the first time I noticed it I practically froze in my path and stared ahead as he passed me. For context I work at a Burger and Pizza store and this guys the Pizza chef. So the entire day hes wearing a Apron and i normally come in after him. But one special day i was lucky to come before him and now everytime I see him before shift hes wearing that fuckass shirt. Hes not a teen. Hes this 30-40 Pizza cook who was a teacher in India and he often speaks to me in English even tho its not this countrys language. DOES HE UNDERSTAND?? DOES HE THINK ITS FUNNY?? WAS IT A GIFT?? WHY NO OTHER SHIRTS. Is this a threat???

-Well then, His developing story isn't very fleshed out because saying it's a Defense mechanism and saying it just grew into that is kind of Contradictory. I haven't read the novel but I'd like to know what the injury was. Because of it being in a cast means most likely he thought a bone or something broke. It couldn't have been a physical visible injury like his arm being skinned or something because I think it would have alarmed people a lot more and alot more people (nurses, doctors maybe even sanctus to bless him or smt) would have wanted to see it in its healing stages. if it was something non visible that sounds like a very painful experience tho. It wasn't fast because as you point out later Kyrie didn't know and he was protecting Kyrie. Then again they did just make his arm grow normal in the end of Dmc5 so yk. Contradictory showing that it grows into a demon arm as a defense mechanism and then it literally grows back normal when a dangerous situation arrives when his arm is hurt. Well you could say "but that's because now he Devil triggered and felt truly human and he's way older now" well then why didn't he Devil trigger when the dangerous situation arrived the first time but rather grew a demon arm. I understand that he's quarter demon and yk demon biology and I know he heals because that's a trait the spardas have but that would be something to be more expected of Dante or Virgil because they are half demons. Nero has the most Human blood which does make him more powerful but that would make me more think he'd devil trigger earlier if anything not grow a pure demon limb. Even if we accept Nero healing back a demon limb because of an Injury, why didn't his arm heal in any way after being removed from his literal body? Why exactly did Virgil need it? Making it grow back human in dmc5 makes the message of 4 feel empty. He's accepted because after all he's still a human and his loved ones (kyrie) will accept him as who he is with the arm. Because it's part of him but then in dmc 5 they remove it.

-I will not debate you on that! He's a teenager and making him feel even a slither of fear in his identity is a core part of being a sparda/hj but making him ask Nico the same question he asked Kyrie feels.. Weird. 5 years have passed. You'd think he would have grown from that first time with Kyrie. By bringing up that he asks Nico again makes it feel like he hasn't grown at all from 4 which isn't true but still feels like it. It doesn't help that Nico kind of ignores him HAHA but in all seriousness many things he does makes it feel like he hasn't grown from 4. Which could be an interesting part of his character if 4 wasnt literally about him growing and taking his demon side as part of himself.

- eh nothing really to note Yeah he cares about Kyrie and doesn't like being babied. Sounds like a teenager to me.

- That problem can exist, sure. But there's a huge chunk of his lore missing that makes his character shallow. We're basically arguing about a huge piece of his backstory not being told. It's just about interpretation at this point. But what you're saying still doesn't make sense. You can't build character off of nothing. That's what makes him so mischaracterized. He has no story to build from. THAT'S the issue. We're not told or at least shown when something happens or why he's there at all. His motives are subjective. The girl he's dating. His job is built off of nothing. Why was he specifically chosen for that? Him existing that way doesn't make sense without a foundation. Which we have none of. You can't even tell what his “job” is without reading the novels from where you quoted from. Sure they give us that much information but GAME wise. That's not very much anyhow. All you get is he works for the order and gets put into said situation somehow. It clears it up, but you shouldn't have to guess.

-That's kinda cool why he uses a gun :)) but since you quoted it i feel the need to address the quote the quote, “I'll endure the exile if it gives me the power to protect her” kind of just shows me that his character is kind of limited to Kyrie in dmc 4. Most of your points and most of his character surrounds her. His own character kind of gets left behind. As you say he's shown to have a softer side FOR KYRIE. He's willing to endure the exile FOR HER. In dmc 4 he isnt after sanctus he isnt after the betrayal of an entire town he's angry they have Kyrie. Even you saying you think he's a family man is an interpretation of another thing where he says he only cares about Kyrie.

I don't have any issue with him being anti-social. I wish we got him interacting with other knights in the game tho. I kNOww it was rushed but still. That sounds like an interesting Dynamic :>>

-I do like that relationship with the church. I really do, he is trapped being Sanctuses helper at keeping the Ruse up and therefore has a complicated relationship with the religion and everything it represents. I don't mean to put down your experience at all i hope your ok and happy with yourself now <:))

But Neros isn't living in a religious Town but rather a cult. Which is different in many ways: the only “police” of any kind is literally led by the leader, there is no separation between church and government, it's all the same. What Sanctus says goes. Everybody dresses the same which you could say they couldn't make more models because the game was rushed but that's still an intentional game choice in the big hall. In the scene where Virgil goes through Fortuna we see that's literally how they walk around ALL THE TIME not only in service. There is no other ‘rebel’ presented in the game. Nero is the outlier. The game and its religion are Christian inspired not Christianity. The experience Nero has is more extreme. Again I don't mean to downplay your experience, just I feel the need to compare when talking about fiction vs Reality. I myself am living in a deeply religious environment and understand what you mean!!

However, with all of that in mind it is a pet peeve of mine. People typically in cults don't realize they are until later. There are no outsiders from what we've seen. Then again I haven't read the novels so if there's further information about the town that I'm not aware of I'm sorry! But it brings back the point you shouldn't have to read the novels to understand the game- SORRY! Anyway, without any outliers, it being a closed community, being led by the church and only the church, there being NO ONE ELSE at least that the game shows with any sense of style outside of the seemingly uniform clothes makes Nero stand out in(in my opinion) a bad way. Yes he's the main character, but he should still fit into his environment.

-Actually that interests me deeply. I've just finished the first novels and I'm looking forward to going on weee. Also I'd love to know why they took him in because of his looks and what that has to do with that. But my main issue was that he still has the healing which is a big “superpower” I guess which he has FROM BIRTH it should be a big deal in my opinion.

Also i understand him fighting different from Dante but making him one up Dante feels off. I mean Nero has fought demons but Dante is very different from Demons and in general isn't taking dmc4 very seriously but that's a writer's problem I have grr.

Ah yes the dead weight thing. I understand why it is a problem to him, I really do but it seems a bit over exaggerated. Not that it wouldn't hurt him, Dante is a big role in his life. But it seems to be the only motive outside of his arm being stolen. That Dante insulted him. Yes he's hurt (literally badum-ch get it no arm) But his Motive being Dante doesn't really make sense. Because it also isn't like you sayed fleshed out Dante does kinda forget he says that. That's the motive, sure. However, There is very little about the amount of people that die in 5. A specific cutscene I want to mention, V and Nero realize they aren't ready to fight Urizen. So they WALK. AWAY. FROM PEOPLE DYING BEHIND THEM. Like they're walking away from a fly being caught in a spiderweb. They, Nero, does not care. His motive is what benefits him. Nothing more or less. There isn't any character growth in that. Nero in 4 is also very limited in his care about anything but his own life. If you like that about him, fine. But that is a character flaw. Call it one.

(Also stupid pet peeve I think it's kinda weird that Nero keeps fighting demons after dmc4 when he clearly showing that he doesn't like doing it and prefers being around the people he loves but i get it i get it he's cocky he thinks it's cool in ways whatever whatever)

In dmc 5 his other main motive is that Virgil stealing his arm. Nothing about him hurting the people he cares about. Nothing about Dante. When Dante shows up again you can say he shows care, maybe he's bad at showing emotions. That's fine. But you'd think they'd show it a little better in my opinion. When He is finally face to face with Virgil after everything, the only reason he wants to fight Virgil is still because he stole his arm. Not because of all the damage he caused. It changes instead into the fact that he's his of father and so on. But still it seems like that's it. Not of Virgil's actions, but what Virgil has done to him.

Anyway let's keep doing it ah yes Neros themes I do like when they call back on religion for Nero. I believe it's because of a kind of connection he will forever have with it. He will forever carry parts of His religious town with him he grew up there it's trauma man.

Nero does have a personality different from Dante but the way he acts and plays in dmc 4 is clearly very inspired by dmc 3 Dante. This isn't because of writing blah blah but just because dmc3 is a game that did very well and they tried to “do it again” basically with dmc 4 and Nero. He's explosive and cool, seemingly non caring. It's similar to Dante, except different weapons plus another melee weapon being his arm. It reminds me if DMC3 had no play styles. Ofc tweaked and different but it's bringing back the non caring, cool “nothing phases me” personality that 3 has just a tad bit more serious. Less jokes but the same amount of sarcasm.

I see why you like Nero. I really do too but I personally can't see it and that's ok. The og post was truly filled with my own teenage anger at the very productive time of 3am. Still I do have a few problems with Nero because he does have a backstory but I wish we'd get the FULL picture yk? Why he's in the order to begin with why his relationship with Kyrie is as deep as it is.

At that point he's as well written as any other dmc character(take that as you will.) I also dislike most of the writing in general. Lady and Trish kind of lump into one in dmc 4 and 5 (Not to mention the sexualization, but that's just CAPCOM) Virgil's final reveal calling him alpha and omega is contradictory and Dantes character just becomes more unserious and vague to me, losing his original style but that's ok

Im sorry if im overstepping my line but its driving me insane and i NEED to say it before I go insane Nero devil may cry is not. A well written character. He never has been. And he never will be because of the people writting him im so so so sorry for everybody who likes him he is not tight. Everytime somebody draws him interesting looking or writes him interesting hes full of Headcanons which isnt bad. Anything but, thats literally all i do, but he himself isnt well written.His character isnt well executed his character feels rushed and not thought threw him beeing Virgils son dosent make sense in the universe their building up. Nero is just a copy of Dante basically whit sprinkles of Virgil to make him feel interesting enough and does not work in the surrounding hes in "buT. HeS ReBelLing agAinSt His ReliGOus sUrRoundings Like aNy TeEn woUld" HES LITERALLY IN A CULT TOWN, NOBODY ACTS LIKE THAT IN THAT TOWN. He was raised there. From a baby. He dosent know who he is. He dosent know hes literally Virgils son and the church dosent either. To them its just this weird kid whit a demon arm and white hair. We saw Virgil in Fortuna but its not like he gave them his son and went "ah yes this is spardas grandson make sure he knows that" BECAUSE DMC5 IS MAKING HIM SAY HE DOSENT KNOW NEROS HIS SON.AND EVEN IF HE DID. The church in this literally is trying to gather demonic power to becomes angels dont ya think theyd care a little bit more about this weird ass boy. Who heals and has white hair.sigh im sorry hes just meant to be cool i get it im going insane. They dont give characters space to grow or become sombody or something they werent already and the writters arent good at making characters grow in themselves and become somebody new but still be themselves.Capcom is just weird to me. I see where they are going and their ideas but theyre writting falls flat. I adore dmc1 and dmc3 but the games after feel soulless like theres something missing a heart. A soul. I dont know if this is a hot take i dont mean to make anybody upset. Its just. Eating me.from the inside. Nero as a character and a concept works if you put the thought and heart into these characters but I just learned they wanted Virgil to say that Nero came from a one night stand IN. Dmc5 and that made me want to sob. I love these characters I love Lady and Trish and Virgil and Dante but they arent handled good. Can we stop pretending just because something is canon it has to be..canon. many dialogs in dmc5 feel sloppy and lack feeling. I understand its a action game first and a story game second but. I feel like there are attempts and some of them hit. But so many fall flat and im sick of having low expectations. Im going to be honest if they make dmc 6 its going to probobly be bad.

I need to talk about this. Scene.

I always saw Dante as Jesus kinda. So this always made me really excited but I also really like the implications of this scene in general its implying that even after everything he will always be expected to take care of the people around him. Even situation where he is overwhelmed and pretty much persumed dead, he is the one everybody is betting on even Patty goes to find him not to check up on him or to save him but to be saved. Yes she apologizes to him because she thinks its her fault. Yes i understand shes a child. But still its so interesting to me. I mean even Lady and Trish arent worried. They know hes going to be fine they know. Hes going to save the day. I get it that hes the main Character and thats literally his job but. Yk. THATS THE POINT. ITS INTERESTING HOW THE OTHERS ACKNOWLEDGE IT. Because they arent meant to. We have an outside perspectiv we. Know. They dont.Its an endless Cycle of him saving everybody you could say. Hes taking Pattys sins on himself huh? This is just a very good scene and I like more confirmation of the things i write. He has a huge saviour Complex because thats litreally his purpouse he is meant to save the world. He is meant to. He has no other choice but to. So maybe its not a complex at all. Maybe hes just the saviour maybe he will forever care about the people around him even if they dont cut him any slack .

But hey thats just a theory. A devil may cry theory.

I never ellaborated on this. But i have thoights. So. In my brain Nelo angelo is an Iron maiden whose Spikes are in constant motion. As it moves as it just stands the Spikes rotate not giving Virgil time zo regenerate and opening and closing his wounds over and over making him suffer constantly to the point of exhaustion and Insanity. Too weak to escape but too desperate to give up. Constant agony which makes Nelo angelo stronger it feeds off his agony. I never liked the image of it just beeing him under Munduses Controll. I like the image of it beeing his power his strength now used against him its him. And even the rawest form of his Power. Still couldnt beat Dante.

What if i say.
