Happy Mothers first, Days will follow.

Motherhood is complicated.

It could turn your life upside down.

At times, it is over-hyped.

The tangled stripes on my stomach

have so many stories weaved in them

that no-one will ever know of.

The heroism in them could never be celebrated enough.

So here’s to mothers

who are fighting stifled battles

through sleepless nights and worrisome days.

Who have lost track of time and feel like they are not good enough no matter how hard they try.

I am not here to tell you, you should cheer up,

that you should just put on a red lip-color,

wear high heels and go get a spa.

I know it doesn’t work that way.

I am here to tell you that you are not alone.

That we all are in this together.

And feeling like this is as real as giving birth.

What you are doing is no easy feat.

The dilemmas, struggles, disappointments,

confusions, lows, anger pangs, guilts -

they are the real ingredients of motherhood.

THAT makes you, YOU.

Thankyou for your love, support and presence. Thankyou for making artists believe that their art matters. Thankyou for walking into that room and celebrating the history of genius literature. Thankyou for being you.
