But I’m not sure who you’re hanging out with because I have never been cursed at or even threatened to be punched. Maybe you’re just hanging out with weird people, actually. Because everyone should be treated well, even buttholes like the ones you have come in contact with. But believe me, if I had seen you in a ditch somewhere I wouldn’t have walked past you. I have patched up many a people after a fight so I have some experience in this area”

“Alright, crying is a great way of letting go.” He replied in a joking matter even though he spoke from experience. “It took the media long enough to realize how awesome trans people are. Would have been nice to have a trans hero to look up to growing up. Instead my babysitter accidentally put on Boys Don’t Cry. He thought it was a nice movie about a trans guy.” He paused for a moment remembering the content of the movie. “I didn’t leave the house for days after that movie.” He mentioned as he pushed the memory out of his mind. “I was hanging out with delinquents. They don’t settle issues with kind words. Only unkind ones and fists.” He trailed off with a smile. “Hey, could I take you to dinner sometime? Not as like a date or anything. Just as a way to say thank you for being so kind. “

“It’s the spirit of the thing, according to my brother. He and my cousins believe competition is good, and hell if they’ll ever turn one down.” She nodded slowly as she listened, unsure what she could possibly say in response. Why would their mom hate him? They were still family, related by blood or not. “I see. Have you ever met them?”

“I’m not one for competitions personally.” He shook his head slightly. He had seen his fair share of competitive people around the town. “My half sisters? Yeah a couple times when my father dragged me to family events. I have a half sister only a month older than me. Oh I should probably mention that my dad half sister’s mom with my mom. He was married, had two kids one on the way and my mom was his young secretary.”

“The edge of the couch is exactly right, that’s as much invigoration as I need in my life” she assured nodding her head furiously before placing a hand over her chest at the mention of the Netflix show. “Oh my god, I haven’t even started to process the fact that Poussey died. I’m going through the process of grieving and I’m in absolute denial at this point” she noted resting her head in her hands melodramatically. “Well I’m glad you’ve gotten your act cleaned up and everything, you can’t be doing this stuff your whole life. Believe me, if you could my dad would have” Val retorted with a small laugh. “Well that’s the only place I can see you so I guess you can say that”

“If you ever need a shoulder to cry on mine is available. We can mourn the loss of Poussey together.” Charles set his hand on her shoulder. He gave her a look of sadness. “The show better not touch Sophia. There is finally a trans character in a show that’s popular. Not many people like me in shows, makes you feel kinda happy when you see more showing up.” He spoke truthfully, letting out a small sigh. “When you spend your whole life being a bad kid, it’s kinda weird to deal with good ones. Not saying you are weird for being good. I’m just so use to people punching and swearing. It’s nice to be treated like a human.” He looked down trying to hide his happiness. “A few years ago a beautiful girl like you would have just walked past me. Avoiding even looking at me in a ditch, hungover and blooding from a fight the night before. Sorry I’m going on about stupid nonsense. ”

“See now that’s the reckless I’m talking about” she noted with a laugh “I get to feel like a badass and I can get a look into prison from the comfort of my own home and don’t act like you’re above binge watching Netflix. No one is too badass for that” Valentina declared sticking her tongue out at him. “What do you get around to? Playing ding dong ditch all day?” she teased with a small huff “You’re definitely the terror of the town” she continued playfully. “It’s actually in front of me because I have horrible peripheral vision”

“Wow, you really live on the edge, the edge of the couch.” He joked,shaking his head a bit. “I can’t believe what the writers did to Poussey. She was my favorite character on that show.” He admitted not even trying to hide the fact that he watched the show. “I don’t ding dong ditch all day. If I was twelve that’s what I would do. I've mostly cleaned up my act. I go to school and do normal teenage bullshit now. Not as fun as my shoplifting and getting into fights days.” He sighed, shrugging a bit. “So I have to stay in front of you in order to stay on your good side?”

“I don’t get the whole rivalry thing, I mean they are just schools. I had a choice to go to either school. I just chose the one my half sisters didn’t go to. Not that I don’t like my half sisters, I just don’t know them. Their mom hates me, I’ve seen nature documentaries. Don’t want mama bear going after me because I got close to her cubs.”

“It wasn’t even like a pinch of fun” she clarified with a small smile, shaking her head dismissing his smirk. “I think I get a more invigorating feeling out of finishing another series on netflix” Valentina teased “so I think I’ll pass you up on the more ding dong ditch and TPing. Plus I am the worst person to bring along for this, because running and my heart malformation never seemed to meet eye to eye” she mentioned with a chuckle. “Well I mean my dad’s protective but he’s also not a hypocrite. He used to be the bad kid running around corrupting people by forcing them into ding dong ditch” Valentina continued with her joking “But yeah, I mean as long as you stay on my good side he won’t find a reason to arrest you.”

“Alright, alright I’m sorry I got you into that.” He let out a small sigh though the smirk stayed on his face. “Maybe next time I feel like doing something reckless, I can come over and watch some Orange is the New Black with you.” Charles spoke as if he was joking. He wasn’t going to admit he’d actually enjoy doing that. “My point exactly, your dad was a bad kid. So he knows what other bad kids like me get up to around girls.” He stepped closer to her, leaning against the wall. “Right, good side now is that your left or your right?” He joked
