I think that If merlin ever got the chance to freely explore his magical abilities, it wouldn’t take long before he started hurling random spells at people just to see what happens
Arthur would just have to follow him everywhere and trying to minimise the damage

“remember Peeta can camouflage himself because he’s a baker” said with a mocking tone makes me so mad because they completely misunderstand why he’s able to camouflage and why decorating cakes is mentioned in that context. Peeta was poor, a different kind of poor from the seam, but poor nonetheless. he didn’t have money for paints nor canvases. he is an artist, he creates, he uses his paintings after the first hunger games as his therapy. he loves painting, so he used whatever was available to him to show his artist soul. he was able to decorate cakes and pastries as if they were canvases because they were going to gain a profit from it, but I’m certain that in his free time he probably used the elements to draw and paint, these being water and mud and flowers and whatever he could find. plus he received official training the days before the games.

No shade but the ppl losing their minds learning that the Old Therebefore is a funeral song and that Lucy Gray was singing it bc she thought she was gonna die….like….yeah.jpg didn’t you read the first line of the song? Lucy Gray didn’t know about the snakes or that Snow put the handkerchief in there, no duh she thought she was gonna die. The thing that gets me though (and this is why I love Rachel Zegler’s performance of this scene) is that once she realizes the snakes aren’t attacking her, the song is no longer a funeral song; it becomes a big ol’ middle finger to the Capitol. Girly looked straight into that camera and said you hear that, motherfuckers? I’m staying right the fuck here

Remember when Amanda Bynes pretended to be a boy and was more popular with the girls than the actual straight cis male students and when they asked her how she did it, she taught them the very basic lesson that women want to be respected and cared for which is what every woman had already said but they actually listened because they thought she was a guy

I wonder what might have become of Katniss if the Quarter Quell hadn’t pulled her back into the arena and set Mockingjay in motion. In an alternate version of Panem’s future—where Katniss and Peeta are forced to go through with their marriage, have children, and live as Capitol darlings—would Katniss have been turned into a performer moreso than she already was? Katniss's singing has always been something very deeply personal to her. Despite her natural talent, she actively chooses not to use it in CF because it's something she doesn't want to share with them. In the this timeline, the only time she sings before a Capitol audience is during Rue’s death—a moment of mourning, not performance. Yet the Capitol, so obsessed with Katniss, would likely have overlooked the meaning of the song and the moment, and fixated on the beauty of her voice instead.
President Snow would want to exploit her—not through prostitution like Finnick, which would have shattered the “star-crossed lovers” illusion the Capitol adored, but by caging her in a different way. He could have turned her voice, something pure and untouchable, into another spectacle for the Capitol’s amusement. Forced to sing only approved songs, Katniss would become a living symbol of repression: a bird in a gilded cage, performing on command. Her voice—once used to comfort a dying girl, once filled with meaning—would be co-opted and hollowed out, made palatable for the very people she despises.
Katniss possibly imagined the only way her voice could be taken would be by becoming an Avocado, but that wouldn't be enough. Almost In the way that killing Peeta wasn't enough, they had to hijack him into something more painful. In that reality, the Capitol wouldn’t need to silence Katniss; they would simply strip her songs of meaning and turn her pain into entertainment.
Snow definitely would have gotten a personal kick out of twisting Lucy Gray's words around and tarnishing her legacy - "It's not over 'til the Mockingjay sings'

You know one of my all time favourite moments in Hunger Games is when Katniss throws a knife, only intending for it to lodge itself into the wood, but it miraculously lands in between two panels like a bullseye completely unintentionally - Haymitch is impressed, Peeta is in awe, and meanwhile Katniss is thinking, 'that's weird, try not to act shocked and pretend it was on purpose.'

I have been obsessed with this paragraph since I read it and I just want to talk about it:
“The way she tosses Wellie's head aside with no regard or compassion for her even in death. Helps, too, to see a smear of chocolate high on her cheekbone where she must have wiped the tears away last night during our one-sided truce. And finally, it helps when she says, ‘I will be the one to honour the Capitol!’”
The way she 'tosses' Wellie's head is obviously so horrific and just shows how desensitised she has become to the violence of the games, emphasised even more by Haymitch's note of Wellie's "child-sized boots" just before this. Then the focus on the chocolate smeared across her cheek - a remnant of the compassion shown by Haymitch the night before when she had her moment of vulnerability, when the walls came down long enough to remind us that she's a Career, but she is also a child who is terrified. The chocolate across her cheek - given to her by another District child who the Capitol has told her is her enemy while the Capitol itself is the one who put them there to begin with, put 48 of them in there to fight it out, and 1,176 other children before them. Still, she is so brainwashed from years and years of Capitol propaganda, she can only recite what she has been trained for. "I will be the one to honour the Capitol!"
When you're in the arena, remember who the real enemy is.

Haymitch, emerging with the most prominent milk moustache ever seen: Oh, nooooo. Aw, you're out of milk. This is so upsetting. I'm so sorry

I'm glad Haymitch opened up to his new family in the epilogue, but I hope beyond hope that he told them about drinking that pitcher of milk just to fuck Snow over

Comparing Haymitch and Katniss' narrative styles is so funny to me because he's a yapper and she's a gatekeeper. He drops more lore on D12 in the first two chapters of SOTR than she does in the entire trilogy.
Haymitch is like "Yeah, so this person is related to this person who's related to this person and things are this way because of this and this thing actually came from here and this person is actually my best friend and also here's this extra tidbit of random info cause all my lore dropping comes with it's own additional bonus content and all my unnecessary commentary."
And Katniss is over here like "Tf do I care for if y'all know all the lore of District 12? I'm talking about my beautiful husband's beautiful eyelashes."
