day 1 of 30 days of horror mythology: skinwalkers
In navajo culture, a skin-walker is a type of harmful witch who has the ability to turn into, possess, or disguise themselves as an animal. the term is never used for healers.

full moon reminder! Saturday, August 9th, will be the full moon this month. Meaning that is most likely the best time to get a haircut (or maybe dye it if you’re into that), if you work in the ER be prepped for a possible increase in patients, be wary of sleepwalking or insomnia, and be careful at dark since crime rates typically rise. Stay safe and have a good weekend, everyone!

Just a reminder: there’s a blood moon coming up (March 13th-14th) so beware of anything that could provide you with negative energy or bad luck between now and then - blood moons are typically seen as a sign of evil or divine punishment. The paranormal or even demonic are much more prominent and powerful at these times. Be sure to lock your doors and windows!

HAUNTED HOSPITAL: HEILSTÄTTEN (2018)
Tumblr media
This is a really weird German found footage film that mixes the aesthetics of an abandoned sanatorium with prank youtube. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. The twist is interesting, the movie is interesting, it plays a lot like an episode of Ghost Adventures but with actual activity . The actors do a good job with the script, overall not a bad film, just a bit plain. The story itself is new but the spooks were not (though I did like when the unlocked chain turned into a continuous loop chain, that was fun, Grave Encounters-y).
⭐⭐⭐
(Trigger Warning Suicide)
Tumblr media
This movie is based around a bunch of youtubers who are trying to get mad views so they do a spooky challenge by breaking the law and going to an old tuberculosis sanitarium (because nothing is more frightening than breaking the law). We have your classic annoying prankster brothers,  a beauty guru, and a young upstart who is looking for her place on the internet (wouldn’t know anything about that hahaha please follow my blog). Theo is our tour guide and he is very straight forward about not liking the pranksters content, it is ruining today's youth! Theo also wants to make sure everyone is very appreciative of the heavy history that comes with the Haunted Hospital for no reason in particular, don’t you mind one bit.
Tumblr media
As the kids begin to set up for the evening creepy stuff starts to happen and the beauty guru gets a jump scare by another random guy who they tell to fuck off and he does but little do they know it’s to be the first death of the movie! Dun dun dun! Only after our beauty babe sees a full bodied (and full bloodied) apparition in the bathtub and literal writing on the wall do our first group of two (2) attempt to leave when they discover the real dead body of the guy and things become really real for all of them. Everyone starts trying to get out but of course they all split up to do it, and Theo is in the basement all alone so the daring duo go down to find him. He is in the basement alright, but so is something else, all three (3) kids in the basement get got.
Tumblr media
The final prank brother goes down and in a rather gruesome scene with an elevator cable we are down to just the young upstart, Marnie. She has actually been in Heilstätten before with her sister and Theo and when they were here Marnie saw an apparition which somehow led to an accident where her sister is now in a wheelchair. Marine claims she came back for Theo’s safety but he is certain she only came for youtube clout. This becomes clear when we find out that Theo isn’t dead after all, he was doing a “prank” this whole time. Turns out he has a weird goth girlfriend and they bugged the whole sanatorium just to haunt these kids and kidnap them. He starts to do surgery on them but the whole “Marnie being missing” thing was really bumming him out so he had to go chase her, but she gets away!
Tumblr media
I guess we are to believe that Theo and his girlfriend killed the annoying pranksters and the beauty vlogger because no cops ever showed up? They kind of just left that part off like Marnie ran all the way home and never said a damn thing to anyone about anything, not even her sister (but she had to, right? She was covered in blood or blood like substance). I wish they would have just had a little more on the ending there to make the movie complete. Sure it was nice to see Theos end and that his girlfriend was kinda/maybe a spooky ghost the whole time though but still. Pretty crazy to think Theo would do that just for a video though. I suppose it just goes to show that some people will do anything for other people's attention (please comment, like, reblog, and follow for more reviews).

Skinwalkers
Everyone has heard of a myth or legend growing up that has been passed down for generations. From the boogie man to sirens. Normally these Myths are created to make a kid scared to be out late at night or to make them take percussions when going outside. Today i’m gonna touch base and a very well known myth, known as the mimicking and shape shifting spirit…Skinwalkers.
Tumblr media
What are skinwalkers?
Skinwalkers are often known as a skinny and pale creature with glowing eyes that walk on all fours. They are known to mimic animals, baby cries or anything that will make you search for the sound you are hearing. They can also shapeshift into animals like deer, your dog or anything they please. In some places skinwalkers ain’t a skinny pale creature but they’re a witch or shaman who can transform into animals. In some places skinwalkers are evil entities who intent harm on people.
Where did they originate from?
Skinwalkers are apart of the Native American Navajo lore. The skinwalker lore likely began as a way to convey moral lessons and explain occurrences that were inexplicable at the time. It serves as a cautionary tale within the culture, warning against certain behaviors and the misuse of spiritual power.
Skinwalker Ranch
Skinwalker Ranch, also known as Sherman Ranch, is a property located in Utah that's infamous for reports of paranormal and UFO-related activities. It's named after the skinwalker of Native American legend and has become a hub for those interested in the supernatural.
How to know if you spotted one?
Most of the time when someone thinks an animal is a skinwalker is when they have glowing or human like eyes. Another way people think they seen a skinwalker is when a 4 legged animal walks on its two back legs like it’s natural to them.
How were they created?
Skinwalkers, in legend, were once healers or spiritual guides who have been corrupted by dark magic. They're said to have chosen to gain their powers by breaking a cultural taboo, which varies among the stories told.
What is associated with them?
Skinwalkers are often associated with malevolent acts, shape-shifting abilities, and certain animals like coyotes, wolves, bears, and birds of prey. They're also linked to various supernatural phenomena within their lore.
What to do if you ever encounter one
If someone believes they've encountered a skinwalker, folklore often suggests not to engage or lock eyes, as it's said they can absorb themselves into your body. It's also advised to keep the encounter to oneself, as speaking about it might attract their attention.
The world of Skinwalkers and their ability to be anything or sound like anything is a way to attract the human attention. When you hear an animal in pain or a baby crying you subconsciously want to go help them without thinking any danger is involved.
I enjoy deep diving into legends, myths, mysteries and just anything that has many different ways to look at it. If you have any suggestions for a post, let me know and i’ll make a post about it and it’s history!

good(?) news! the lady who owned the conjuring house was arrested recently for driving under the influence!
I saw that, yeah! I do hope that someone else gets to own the house, because her rules seemed super unfair, but (last I knew, at least) she was trying to find a way to keep her business going and trying to pin things on a former employee - who she had fired for unjust reasons. Overall, I didn’t think she was a good fit to own/run the Conjuring House and hope this situation helped them to pass it on to someone new!

Unfriended (2014)
i just watched the movie Unfriended, and let’s just say…i have some thoughts.
*spoiler alert*
summary: While video chatting one night, six high school friends receive a Skype message from a classmate who killed herself exactly one year ago. At first they think it’s a prank, but when the girl starts revealing the friends’ darkest secrets, they realize they are dealing with something out of this world, something that wants them dead. x
personal thoughts/opinions: the initial reviews of the movie were very misleading. everyone calling it garbage and trashing it, although not entirely wrong, weren’t entirely right. it’s not the best horror movie i’ve ever seen. and it’s DEFINITELY not the worst i’ve seen. the jumpscares were minimal, the element of mystery was there, and the main characters were highly unlikeable, to be honest. they were all liars and terrible friends to each other, on top of the fact that they were keeping secrets and going behind each others backs.
But what was unexpected was the way that this approach puts you inside the main character's head so well. Seeing her type something, have second thoughts, delete it, then type something else was almost deeply powerful. seeing her checking websites, picking music from Spotify, secretly IMing her boyfriend, you want to laugh at the movie, but..we all do that. it’s not a scary film, but the tension is definitely maintained! it kept me entertained and i was sucked in, i couldn’t look away. it eliminated my main issue with the found footage filming style; the shaky camera. They used the glitching effect well during moments of tension, although it did come close during a few points, but i think it pulled back before pushing too far.
final rating: 6/10
It was engaging and kept me hooked from when I pressed play. The style of the filming was pretty impressive since all the activity was recorded through a computer screen/a Skype call. to be fair, it did feel like anyone could have made this, but the level of professionalism displayed by the actors was amazing - especially considering they didn't really have body language to work with, only their facial expressions, which they all really pulled off. The plot was well thought out and fairly consistent.
I need to watch more with the concept, so if you know any other movies like this, please tell me!

my dog always stares or barks at a particular corner of my living room. do you think there could be a reason for this or just a dog being a dog?
So there could be a number of reasons for this. Because this is an account about the paranormal, I’ll give you my knowledge about dogs and spirits.
When a dog senses a good ghost, some of the signs you may see could be wagging their tail, your dog might raise its paw up in the air toward something, could be some excited barking, running toward something like playing, and an alert look - even though you see nothing there. I don’t know much about bad or angry spirits, other than that they may cause your animal to growl or bark, maybe become more aggressive than usual.
Animals are highly advanced spiritual beings. They work with high vibrational energies, and I believe they have all capabilities to see and sense the spirit realms beyond the physical world.

Rosemary’s Baby
Happy belated halloween everyone! I was planning on doing this post yesterday, but got caught up in celebrations, so it’s slightly delayed, but nonetheless; let’s have a chat about the movie Rosemary’s Baby.
*Spoiler alert!*
Tumblr media
Initial thoughts:
Haven’t seen this movie since I was a little younger, so I honestly didn’t realize how spectacular the filming is!? And there are so many little details that you don’t really catch on your first watch-through (especially not as a ten year old!)
I am still SHOCKED by the fact that Mia Farrow never won an oscar for this film, I mean come ON Hollywood! She was so brilliant, the emotions and subtext came through in such an odd way that really fit the underlying themes of the movie, and she played her role very well!
My favorite fact about Rosemary’s Baby is that the scene where Rosemary walks through traffic was entirely on the spot - [the producer?] told Mia that “no one would hit a pregnant woman” and it’s very lucky that he was correct!
Another fun fact - the producer thought there was a curse surrounding the movie and that the devil was out to get him!!!!
Tumblr media
Anyway, a truly amazing film, especially for ‘68, they did such a remarkable job! My only question is: where were Rosemary’s parents throughout the events of the movie? Shouldn’t she have gone to them for help? Regardless of this plot hole(?), I forgot how great this was!

I’ve spent the last few days watching video essays about The Hotel Cecil and scrolling through Elisa Lam’s tumblr. Let’s just say it’s a very odd case at that. I was especially curious about how much it reflected the movie Dark Water. And I wish I could figure out how she ended up in the water tank - or better yet, how the staff didn’t notice she was in there! The elevator video as well, that was so intriguing. I scrolled her tumblr and such, and I know she had some severe depression and other issues. However, to me, that doesn’t make sense as to the way she was acting in the video footage. I am going to watch the Netflix documentary later today, so I am very excited to see how they interpreted it there as well!

Tumblr media
this sweet little girl was murdered in 2008, at 2 years old. her name was Caylee Anthony and was presumed to have been murdered by her mother, but with no crucial evidence to trace it back to her mother, Casey, the case remains “unsolved.”
on June 16th, 2008, Casey stormed off with Caylee after allegedly arguing with her parents (Caylee’s grandparents), George and Cindy. it’s not clear where Casey went following the fight, but it was the last time Caylee was seen alive. a month later, July 15th, Cindy and George found the car that Casey drove off in. it had been impounded after being abandoned. they found an odd smell coming from the trunk. "I was very concerned about the odor. I had smelled something like that some years prior and I was concerned," he said. as a former police officer, testified that the odor was that of a decomposing human body.
Tumblr media
the day that Cindy found Casey, she was very upset that Caylee wasn’t with her. she made several 911 calls, each one increasingly panicked as she got more information. in the first call, she claimed that police needed to arrest her daughter “for stealing an auto and stealing money”. she then found out that Casey hadn’t seen Caylee for 31 days, which, coupled with the smell from the boot, made her report on another call, “There is something wrong. I found my daughter’s car today, and it smells like there’s been a dead body in the damn car.”
Casey Anthony was arrested, charged with lying to police, interfering with an investigation and child neglect. she very soon became a person of interest in the case of her missing daughter, made even more suspicious due to the story she told the police. she failed to report her 2-year-old daughter missing for a month; then, when reports were made, it was by Caylee’s grandmother while Casey robotically spoke in the background.
she claimed to have left Caylee with her nanny, Zanny, so that’s who must have taken her. the nanny’s full name was Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez. Casey led the police to the apartment she claimed Zanny lived in, but nobody there recognised Casey as a visitor and the apartment she led them to had been vacant for months. it was later learned that Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez was a real person, but she came forward saying she had never babysat Caylee, nor had she met anyone from the Anthony family.
Tumblr media
Casey led the police on a wild goose chase, claiming she was trying to help find clues about Caylee’s whereabouts, however, around the same time, police found out she was lying about where she had been working. Casey claimed to have a job at Universal Studios, but when police went to talk to her supposed co-workers, they said they’d never seen her.
police confirmed what Cindy reported in her calls, finding evidence of decomposition in the car. they then also found evidence of chloroform in the trunk. as the case gained media attention, Casey was charged with murder and manslaughter, as well as several cases of lying to authorities.
on December 11th, a utility worker came across skeletal remains in the woods near the Anthony family home. the remains were tiny in size, no bigger than a three-year-old. the body was in a laundry basket and wrapped in a blanket. a week later, it was confirmed to be Caylee Marie Anthony. cause of death was determined homicide by undetermined means. years went by without further evidence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
in 2011, the trial began. Casey was painted as a party girl with little to no interest in being a mother. it was said that while Caylee was supposedly missing, Casey was out on the town, drinking and living it up, and even got a tattoo reading “Bella Vita.” her defence team told the story that Caylee drowned in the family pool, and George, Casey’s father, tried covering up the accidental death. George allegedly carried the dripping wet body into the bedroom she shared with Casey before he disposed of her, blaming Casey for the death.
they then tried to explain why Casey lied to the police by saying she was a compulsive liar due to “hiding internal anguish from childhood,” that George had been sexually abusing Casey. despite no reports, evidence or signs of a history of repeated assaults existing, and an accusation that George denied.
Tumblr media
it was revealed in court that someone in the Anthony home had looked up chloroform on the family computer, shortly before Caylee vanished. this also lined up with the prosecutors theorising that Casey used chloroform to knock Caylee out before suffocating her. Cindy would then admit that she had searched for it. she was claiming that she had intended to look up chlorophyll, the natural compound in green plants that makes them green.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Towards the end of the trial, it became clear that the only evidence against Casey was circumstantial at best; nothing forensically or witness-based could tie Caylee’s remains to Casey. Authorities couldn’t place Caylee’s remains in the car’s boot, despite believing that was where she was hidden until being dumped in the woods. The prosecution relied on Casey’s odd behaviour and her personality’s general unlikability to convince the jury of her guilt. They were confident this, her habit of lying, and the circumstantial evidence would be enough.” (medium.com)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Casey was found not guilty, however, she was found guilty of lying to police, then serving four years in prison.
if you made it to this point of the post, please reblog to ensure more people learn about this tragedy and realize how dangerous it is that Casey Anthony is walking the streets today, claiming to want more children. as of writing this, September 1st 2024, Caylee Marie Anthony’s murder is still classified as unsolved murder or death of a child. Caylee deserves justice, and her family deserve to know what really happened to her that day.
