{out of code} Things have ground to a halt here as far as activity, so I'm going to put Kaplan on hiatus for now, just so that I'm not constantly posting nothing but OOC updates with no actual rp content, heh. I can always bring him back later, but with me being decently busy with work right now anyway, I'd like to focus on the muses that have more activity going on. So for now, Kaplan's taking a little break. <3

{out of mutations} Alright, that's all for now! Mercifully, my internet was working all night long, and work left me alone, so I was actually able to get things done around here for the first time in a long time. Woo-hoo! Next week, my university has their spring break, so my students have nothing at all due. I can't see a reason, barring a complete failure of the internet, why I shouldn't be here next Weds night (3/19). I'll see everyone then! =)

{out of smokes} It's been a long week guys, and it's only Weds, heh. I'm really tired and experiencing writing burnout. I have to be honest, I want to just focus where my muse is strongest. Right now, that's over on @tarnishedxknight and with my Farscape muses on @thenexusofsouls. My RE muses are in a slump as far as my muse to write them.
I know I haven't been around that much lately, and next Weds (3/5) I have to skip for grading again, but with all my internet issues in the past two weeks and stress from work, my brain just isn't in the mood to be here. I'm gonna skip my RE muses tonight and work on writing up my Farscape muses over on my multimuse. Or just veg, that's a thing too, heh.
Spring break is coming up in March, so I get a break from grading. The next time I'll have to skip my RE muses for grading will be on 4/2. I should be here 3/12, 3/19, and 3/26, and I'll make an effort to be, because I know people have been waiting for replies. It's just been an unusually busy semester at work, and my internet problems have me really behind on both work and writing, so the stress is real. A tech is coming tomorrow to hopefully fix our internet, so send good vibes that that's what happens.
So I'll plan to be here on 3/12 for now and see how that goes. I appreciate everyone's patience, and if anyone wants to drop threads because of the wait, I totally understand. Otherwise, I'll reply to what you send in starting on the 12th.
#{ out of code } ᵒᵒᶜ#{i thought about just forcing out the replies but i really don't wanna do that}#{i'd rather come back when i've got a better brain for it and write well}#{than to churn out generic and boring shit just to get it done you know?}

"Don't mention it," Chad said with a smile. And just like that, he had a solid task to complete, sometime in the near future: teaching K-Mart how to defend herself. It felt good, actually, to have someone ask something of him and to feel confident that he could get the job done. Since that fateful day in The Hive, his confidence in himself had taken a big hit, and that was saying a lot, since it hadn't been the greatest to begin with.
For the longest time now, he'd just been wandering around with no real purpose other than survival. That got lonely, boring, and monotonous after a while. Having K-Mart to teach and protect was just the cure for what ailed him. He only hoped having him around would be as good company for her as having her would be for him.
He gave her the cot, since it seemed like the gentlemanly thing to do, and she seemed happier with it. For some company and another person to talk to instead of only listening to his own voice or the beeping of all the time, he'd give her anything she wanted. After moving some things around, they were ready to go.
Chad got out onto the open road - well, as open as a road could be with stranded cars, bits of metal, shredded tires, and other debris littering it - and wasted no time in putting a decent distance between them and the last place they stopped. That was his habit whenever he stopped for supplies, and so far it had served him well. He was quiet while he drove, not wanting to overwhelm K-Mart with being too chatty. Unless of course she wanted to talk.
While he drove, Chad kept a look out not only for potential places that might have food or supplies, but also for vehicles or anything else with Umbrella's telltale logo on it. The last thing he wanted to do was reconnect with anyone still in connection with his former employers.
Chad smiled a little at K-Mart's request. It was a smart one, for sure, and one he actually could help her with. He was more that capable of teaching basic survival fighting skills to a teenager. "I think that can be arranged. You definitely should know the basics of self-defense. You never know when you might need it. I can teach you what you need to know, don't worry."
He was glad that nothing bothered them on the way to the van. Not that he couldn't likely have handled whatever might've come their way, but for K-Mart's sake, he'd hoped nothing would jump out and traumatize the poor girl. That wouldn't be a great way to start off building trust with her, if he led her outside only to get chased by the undead.
And just like that, he'd begun to feel the weight of responsibility bear down on him. He was responsible for K-Mart's life now. It was his duty to protect her. That was a scary thought, given how much of a screw-up he thought he was, but at the same time, he was glad she wouldn't have to deal with all of this alone anymore.
Once inside the "van," Chad noticed how uncomfortable K-Mart looked. "It's okay. This is your space now too, so you can relax in it." As much as anyone could relax at all nowadays, he thought grimly. "Make yourself at home," he said, suddenly wishing he had more to offer her than just... this.
He smiled at her question, and then even more at her breakdown of why she'd asked it. A little chuckle followed. "It's okay to be honest. if you're more comfortable on the cot, I'll take the floor. Trust me, I'm used to sleeping wherever, so it's really not a problem. The only downside of sleeping on the cot is that I have the alarm right here..." He patted a small box attached to the wall of the vehicle. A wire ran from it to one of his computers. "If something trips the motion detector, this little baby's gonna go off right by your head," he said with a smirk. "If you don't mind that potentially happening from time to time, you're welcome to the cot."
With that said, Chad sat down on a small stool across from the cot and began typing away with his back to her, resetting everything for them to get on the move once again. Staying in one place too long was never a wise or safe idea. "Let's get out of here, yeah? Before we start to draw a crowd." He really needed to work on his humor now that he wasn't alone anymore.

{out of mutations} Alright guys, real talk for a second. I've got a work meeting on Friday (1/31) that I'm really nervous about. I might lose my job, but if I don't, I'll get a lot of work dumped on me for no extra pay. Either way, not a good meeting. My anxiety is having a blast with this entire situation, and it's affecting my muse, focus, creativity, etc.
I hate to do this because I've been skipping these blogs a lot, but I'm going to skip them this Weds (1/29) and again next week. This week is because my muse for my RE characters is so low, it's like pulling teeth to write for them. I'll be writing on other blogs that come easier to me this week to be kind to my own mental health. Next week I'll skip because Tues-Weds (2/4-2/5) I'll be grading hundreds of forum assignments. I know I've been so sparsely here lately, but it's just a bad time with work, combined with everything always happening on or interfering with Wednesdays for me for some reason.
I anticipate being back here on 2/12. I'll make every effort to do that because then I'm grading again on the 19th. My boss changed the forums assignments with very little notice before the start of the semester, so all my spreadsheets, grading rubrics, and feedback templates that make everything quick and streamlined? Garbage. I have to redo them all from scratch. So that's why every time one of these assignments is due, I'll need extra time to deal with them.
If anyone decides they'd rather not write with me anymore because my activity is so low, I would completely understand. For those who decide to stick with me, I promise I'm not giving up on my RE blogs, it's just a lull while I sort some things out with work. Thank you for your patience and understanding, I really do appreciate it.
See everyone back here on 2/12!

{out of code} Kaplan's been pretty quiet lately, so I think I'm going to leave him be for tonight. It's been a trying week so far and I've got a headache that I hope isn't the start of a cold, so I think I'll call it an early night and get some extra sleep. Next Weds (1/22) I'll be on a short hiatus for the start of classes, so I won't be writing then. I hope to be back here the following Weds (1/29). See you then! =)

“You know my moms, right?”
((From Elena!))
"I-... I know one of them, yes. I used to work with Catalina. Sort of. I'm not as familiar with Jill." He'd only met Jill once or twice, and she seemed alright, but he didn't really know her at all. "Why do you ask?" Did they say something about him? Had he done something wrong? Chad's anxiety immediately began swirling various insecurities around in his head.

"Thanks... but I think that in the grand scheme of brave acts throughout history, mind rank pretty low. Doesn't really matter, though. Whether your brave or scared or otherwise, you gotta keep going, right? Forward's the only way to go," he said with a shrug. Chad definitely didn't think of himself as brave. Considering how all of this started, and how much of it was his fault, he thought of himself as a seriously cowardly individual. But like he said, none of that really even mattered. Whether you were cowardly or a hero, you still had to survive somehow.
He was glad that he had apparently made K-Mart happy by saying she could go along with him. "Well good, I'm glad. Hopefully it's not the last time someone does something nice for you. I'll get right on that for you," he said, half joking, but also serious, too. He honestly really hated the thought of this girl being left by herself in the middle of this hell the world had become. Even though being responsible for another human being was the last thing he wanted - mostly because he knew he'd eventually let her down, like he always did with people who depended on him - there was no way in hell he was going to just walk away from her and leave her to figure things out all alone.
"Sure," he said, trying to show some interest in what she was saying while keeping an eye out for anything strange. One eye on what you're doing and one eye on everything else. That's how one stayed alive. "Yeah, we probably should. Staying in one place too long's never a good way to go."
As they made their way to the door, with new clothes and all their supplies in tow, Kaplan peered out at the street outside, not seeing anything too dangerous. That didn't mean anything, though. "Okay," he said with determination. He drew his handgun and made sure it was ready to fire. "Stay close behind, alright? My van's not far." Opening the door, Kaplan fell into soldier mode, clearing the entrance quickly in both directions before stepping out and making sure there was nothing outside. He waved for K-Mart to follow as he made his way towards where his van was parked.
What he called a "van" was actually an armored, mine-resistant, military vehicle. Fortunately, there were no undead around at the moment, and they were able to make it to the vehicle safely. There was a ladder on one side that led up to a hatch to get in, and after going up first to get the hatch open, Chad came back down and ushered K-Mart to go up and inside first. He followed close behind, sealing the hatch once they were both safely inside. He then smiled sheepishly. "Home sweet home," he said with a shrug.
Inside the van was a lot of electrical equipment. Computer towers, monitors, and keyboards... surveillance equipment... the works. A nest of wires fed all of it, tucked neatly between too towers. In addition to that was a shelf system on one wall that was full of every kind of small metal and plastic part one could ever need as well as things like batteries and ammunition. On another wall, a rack of guns. In boxes under those shelves were flashlights, tasers, and other useful items. And in the front, the driver and passenger seats, complete with a full control panel for all the vehicle's functions. It seemed that Chad had been stockpiling supplies for a long time, indeed.
Opposite the shelving unit was his bed, which was a fold out cot. There was a decent amount of floor space, though, considering, and he gestured to it now. "I can clear away some more stuff, but you could probably have enough space to set up a bed here. Or you can take the cot and I'll sleep on the floor. Whatever's more comfortable for you, I don't care either way. You can put your stuff wherever you want." With that, he began to properly file away all the supplies he'd picked up in the store, and to start fiddling with some of the ones he'd gotten to repair some of his surveillance equipment.

{out of mutations} So... just a heads up for next week guys... I found out I've got family stuff to do on Tuesday, New Year's Eve (12/31), and Wednesday, New Year's Day (1/1). I thought I was only going to be busy on Tues night, but now my dad says he wants to do some other things on Weds night too. And I may or may not have a really important and nerve-racking meeting for work on either 1/2 or 1/3, my boss hasn't decided yet. In light of that, I don't think I'll have time or brain to be here on 1/1. I'm sorry, I know I've skipped my RE blogs a lot, but it's just the way they happened to fall with work and holidays this past month or so. I seem to always be busy on Weds, heh.
As of right now, I don't see a reason why I wouldn't be here on 1/8, and I'll really make an effort to be, because my RE blogs are starting to collect dust. I'll have to play it by ear, though, since I have this whole other project for work now that got dropped on me during my break, and it'll likely continue for the next few months at least, right through the start of classes, so right now it's unclear when or how much work I'll be doing for that. Thanks for your understanding while my life is crazy, and I hope to see everyone back here on 1/8.

{out of code} Sorry guys, I ran out of time for poor Kaplan tonight. My eyes are killing me, otherwise I'd try to squeeze out a couple replies. I'll be sure to get to him when I'm on next, which will be New Year's Day (1/1) since next Weds is Xmas. See you then! =)
