If I am being honest

I've left dozens of secrets in your skin

I whisper them when we are together

trace them as I undress you

the seeds of stories and memories

I hope bloom while we are apart.

I know you do the same

our books aren't new

we've repeated these chapters for years

and this still feels awkward

Despite our history I feel like I'm getting to know you

for the first time

once and then twice over

stuck in

the feeling between finishing a book and starting the sequel

sometimes I don't understand

I don't understand how you look at me

how a divine blessing can look at me 

and see a blessing

my programming says something is off

where is the fight? 

the struggle?

where is the other foot?

This world is new

this concept awkward and strange

I listen for your words and 

they wrap their arms around me

I am safe here

we have walked such long journeys to get here

so if I stumble, just remember

I'm still finding my feet. 

Thank you for being with me

for the journey we have taken

and for all the sights we haven't seen yet

For the messages and memories 

you've whispered into me

they way they sing while I'm in the shower
