KL. A place where I make my daily bread. Where I 'cari makan'. I can't say I super enjoy being in KL and most of the time I think I just tolerate being here. Work is good. The friends I have made here are gold and I am grateful. All that said, it is places like @tommylebaker that make me feel at home in this big cold dog-eat-dog city. You can't get anymore French than Tommy. All the frienchies that frequent this quaint little bakery in Sentul can attest to that. You also can't get anymore Hokkien. It is like being in Little India, Klang and Paris all at once. And how @vivatommylee manages to completely blow my mind with simple combinations like this is totally beyond me. Oh, KL. We've all been giving extra airtime to people who don't deserve it. Fan pages set up for road bullies? #idontgetit So here is an everyday hero who deserves to be mentioned again because of his kindness and sincerity. Here's to Zul at the Bukit Jeluntong Toll petrol station who saved me from running out of gas and from being stranded on an early Sunday morning. He offered to pay for my fuel when he told be I could not pay with my T&G card (I had conveniently left my purse at home). I was happy beyond words. I'm a regular at that petrol station now. Brought him a huge hamper of chocolates and cookies which a friend of mine (after hearing of his kindness) wanted to pass to him. And just last week he offered to pay for my 20 packets of nasi lemak which I politely declined. He wanted to repay the kindness of the chocolate hamper that was not even from me. Such a sweet guy! Guys, if you are ever around the area, please pop by and give him a high five for being such an awesome person. He will be leaving Malaysia for good in 5 months after having worked here for 17 years. He has a wife and an 8 year old son who is waiting for him in Bangladesh :) It really is everyday heroes like Zul who restore our faith in humanity. Though he still thinks it was the tiniest thing he did for me that day, to me... It meant so much more :)

Sleepless

"There's a certain finality that he seeks right before he falls asleep. What makes it so damn precious is that it makes his mind spin out of control and thus losing sight of what triggered that first spot of sweat that made all the madness seem worthwhile. I'm not saying I'm going crazy. I'm not saying it's the end. All I need is to know the way out when I'm done running in circles. When I'm done thinking that everything is out of my control. Because it's not. Because it can't. And I'm right back where I started."
