98 Afghan refugees were recognized as refugees in Japan
The criteria for refugee status in Japan are said to be stricter than in Europe and the U.S..
One year has passed since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan last August 15.
According to Japan's Immigration and Immigration Control Agency, 820 Afghans have fled to Japan since last August, and 98 of them have been recognized as refugees in Japan this year alone.
They will be granted permanent resident status and will be able to stay in Japan permanently if they meet the requirements.
