LastPass Website Was Hacked, But Passwords Weren't Accessed

CTN News -  LastPass says that a hacker infiltrated its internal systems for developing software, not customer password information. Hackers stole 'portions of source code and some proprietary LastPass technical information. On Thursday, LastPass sent out an email to customers about the breach, which the company detected about two weeks ago. “We have no evidence that this incident involved any access to customer data or encrypted password vaults,” the message added. LastPass said an unauthorized party obtained access to portions of its development environment through a compromised developer account and took portions of the source code and proprietary information. In response, the company has deployed “containment and mitigation measures,” and hired a leading cybersecurity firm to investigate the intrusion. Micro Focus To Be Acquired At 99% Premium By Open Text

CTN NEWS -   Micro Focus International Plc has been acquired by Canada's Open Text Corp. for approximately $6 billion, including debt. The Waterloo, Ontario-based company is offering 532 pence per Micro Focus share, a 99% premium to Thursday’s closing price. Open Text said it will fund the cash takeover bid with $4.6 billion in new debt, $600 million from an existing credit line, and cash on its balance sheet. Micro Focus sells software to thousands of companies Micro Focus sells enterprise software to thousands of companies, including Airbus SE, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co., and Kellogg Co. With its products, companies can manage cybersecurity, IT operations, and messaging. Micro Focus says it does business with a majority of the Fortune Global 500. But the company has seen declines in its revenue and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization every fiscal year since 2018. During the past few years, Open Text has bolstered its software portfolio with acquisitions such as Zix Corp., a cryptography firm, and Carbonite Inc., a cybersecurity company. The Micro Focus acquisition is notable for its relative size: it’s worth nearly half of Open Text’s current enterprise value of $12.8 billion, according to data compiled by CTN. Chiang Mai Crypto Trading Firm Faces Over 50 Complaints

(CTN News) - A cryptocurrency trading firm based in Chiang Mai has been sued by more than 50 people for damage of some 1 billion baht,  according to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI). DSI operation center Area 5 received the complaints. DSI officials declined to name the company until formal charges are filed against it. Based in Chiang Mai Crypto Trading, the company was registered in 2019 as a limited partnership with a fund of 500,000 baht. Just this year, it became a company. Acting DSI Area 5 director Kittikhom Kongsomphote explained that clients were believed to have been lured into a pyramid scheme by the firm. The affected clients were promised yields of 15% per month on their investments, Kittikhom said. A client who filed a complaint on Thursday said he was lured by promises of a 15% yield per month to increase his investment. Initially, the client invested only a few thousand baht, then more than 100,000 baht, and finally 1.5 million baht. Approximately 2.4 million baht were lost by another client. On Facebook, she saw advertisements and was invited by friends. She said she paid the "entry fee" of 19,000 baht and invested 300,000 baht before increasing it to 2.4 million baht. Amazon to Shut Down Amazon Care at the End Of 2022

A company email from Amazon Health Services lead Neil Lindsay announced Wednesday that the service will be shut down after Dec. 31. According to Lindsay, the e-commerce giant made the move after determining it wasn't "the right long-term solution for our enterprise customers." "This decision wasn't made lightly and came after months of careful consideration," Lindsay said. A pilot program called Amazon Care was launched in Seattle in 2019. WSJ reported that Amazon held a secret meeting in Seattle in 2017 to learn more about patient care. A pilot clinic was then started by a small group of doctors. Asian Elephant Rips Mahout in Half in Southern Thailand

An Asian elephant in southern Thailand reportedly tore its handler in half with its tusks in after being made to carry wood in the severe hot weather. The Tiger News reports that police responded to a rubber plantation in southern Thailand's Phang Nga province to find the torn body of 32-year-old Supachai Wongfaed a mahout in a pool of blood. The mahout body was torn in half by a 20-year-old elephant named Pom Pam who gored him multiple times with his tusks. According to preliminary investigations, the mahout brought the 20-year-old bull Asian elephant to the plantation to haul wood that morning. Police believe the hot weather may have caused the elephant to "act crazy" and attack his mahout. A hospital veterinarian had to sedate the elephant with a dart so that Mr. Supachai’s torn body could be recovered by rescue workers. A similar incident occurred last month in southern Thailand's Nakhon Sri Thammarat province. Police reported that an female Asian elephant stressed from work, stomped her handler to death, then stood over the man's corpse for hours. Police Officer Shot While Trying to Arrest 6 Drug Traffickers

On Tuesday, six suspected drug traffickers shot and wounded a police officer while eluding arrest in northeastern Thailand. A police spokesperson said that the six armed men fled from the Charm Boutique Resort hotel in northeastern Thailand's Khon Kaen when police moved in to arrest them. Three of the suspects were encountered by police in the lobby of the hotel, he said. One of them, an individual named Anon Onsakhon, is alleged to have fired shots at the police before rushing out of the hotel and escaping the scene. The six suspected drug traffickers fled in two vehicles. One of the escape vehicles was a white Toyota Fortuner. When a police car tried to block its passage, one of the armed men in the Toyota Fortuner fired a shot, hitting a police officer in the leg. Police Officer Wounded in Deep South The suspected drug traffickers abandoned the Toyota Fortuner about three kilometers from the hotel. A Grab delivery driver told police a man identified as Mr Anon stole his motorcycle at gunpoint and rode away. According to the metropolitan police department Mr Anon is wanted on warrants for drug trafficking in Khon Kaen and in Kalasin. The Police organized crime unit believes all six suspects are still in the Khon Kaen area. Police found about 150 rounds of ammunition in a hotel room that a woman from Chaiyaphum province had booked for Mr Anon's group of six. Meanwhile, a police officer was wounded when insurgents attacked the military base of a special operations unit in southern Thailand on Tuesday night. Pol Lt Col Mad-usen Senheem, deputy chief of Cho Airong police, said the Special Operation Unit 31 was attacked about 7.10pm. It was reported at the time that gunmen opened fire on the base and threw pipe bombs at the buildings. In response, they were met with return fire and fled the scene. Thailand's Prime Minister Sidelined by Constitutional Court

Thailand's Constitutional Court has suspended Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha from his Premiership until a ruling on his tenure. August 23, 2022 marked the completion of his eight years in office. In accordance with the current Constitution, a prime minister may serve no more than eight consecutive terms. As of Yesterday (August 24th), Prayut was suspended from his duties as prime minister immediately by the Constitutional Court, with the judges voting 5:4 to accept a petition of his tenure by the opposition. The Constitutional court accepted the petition from Thailand's opposition parties questioning the eight-year tenure of Gen Prayut. Ordering him suspended from his position as Prime Minister until the judges' ruling. The order takes effect immediately. In the meantime, Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan will assume the role of prime minister until the Constitutional Court judges decide on Gen Prayut's future as premier. Gen Prayut will remain in cabinet as Thailand's Defense Minister, a government spokesperson told a press briefing. 93% of People in Thailand Want Gen Prayut Gone In anticipation of the Constitutional Court's decision, a majority of Thai people who detest Gen Prayut have been holding their breath.
