Has anyone noticed this??? These two shots are framed EXACTLY the same, down to the same hand. Is this a really cool forshadowing of the way Charles will later be inside Shaw and experience him? Is this a juxtaposition to the way Erik has zero fear of Charles with a literal tool of death pointed to his forehead to the way he is practically cowering from Shaw giving him a boop from hell?
What mad genius was cooking this up? Was it an accident?
Holy shit

Thinking more about the "We were under orders"/"They were just following orders" parallel and I think the people talking about Charles and talking about how he "just made the worst choice of words" are missing the point.
Parallels like this, in stories, happen for a reason. The point of the scene is not "oh Charles is Ultimately Right but he just said one thing wrong and he triggered Erik's (totally unreasonable, not informed by real, tangible events) Trauma so that is the only reason Erik gets mad at him". They are using a repeated phrase to draw a direct parallel between Charles' way of thinking and, well, nazis.
The nazis that Erik kills on his hunt for Shaw were soldiers following orders, killing, torturing, genociding innocent people because they did not have the moral backbone to go against what they were told.
The men that Erik later tries to kill on the boat are all men who work for the US (and Russian) military, who have zero qualms about turning their weapons on the allies who selflessly risked their lives to save theirs just moments prior, just for the crime of those allies being mutants. Any one of those men could have dissented (in fact, through mind control, we can see the positive effect of one of those men dissenting in a literal earlier scene in the movie), but they chose not to.
You can have whatever opinion you want on how fair this comparison is, of the us and russian military in this movie to the nazi regime. You can have whatever opinion you want on Charles' point of view, on the parallels this movie draws between his viewpoint and nazi apologism.
But it is tiring for people to act like Erik's only reason for objection to Charles words is that because they accidentally happen to parallel something that nazis said to him earlier in the movie, and not the fact that Charles is holding the same viewpoint that excused the actions of the men who committed one of the most horrific genocides in history against Erik's people, and is using it to excuse the actions of people who are poised once again to commit a genocide against the marginalized class that Erik belongs to.
Despite his trauma, Erik, as a character, can still look at the big picture when it comes to oppression. His problem with Charles is not Charles "triggering his trauma", it is the fact that Charles is holding the same viewpoint of the men responsible for some of the worst violence committed against him

If I had a nickel for every adaptation of a heroine from classic literature who is depicted as having lived for over a hundred years and into the 21st century, is now blind and has powers giving her visions, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's fun that it happened twice.
Irene Adler, originally from the Sherlock Holmes short story 'a Scandal in Bohemia' by Arthur Conan Doyle, in various X-Men comics.
Mina Harker, originally from 'Dracula' by Bram Stoker, in the 2009 TV series 'Demons'.

If I had a nickel for every fantasy book series in which one of the main characters is a blonde, bisexual princess who is determined to take the throne and be a better ruler than her parents, has chronic leg pain and switches between using a cane, a wheelchair or no mobility aids, and her closest allies are the guard who raised her and her best friend with benefits who is a lesbian, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's fun that it happened twice.
The Magic of the Lost series by C. L. Clark. Military fantasy about an alliance between the heir to the throne of Balladaire and a conscript born in Balladaire's colony.
The Last Gift series by Allegra Pescatore. Gaslamp fantasy in which the Chosen One dies before completing his quest, leaving all the other major players scrambling to pick up the pieces.
