Think and Grow Poor!
Overcoming Negativity: Harnessing the Power of Positive Thinking
Tumblr media
1 Thought:
Napoleon Hill is famous for authoring Think and Grow Rich in the late 1930s. Over 100 million copies have now been sold and it's by many considered to be one of the greatest self-improvement books of all time.
The book outlines success stories of leaders such as Andrew Carnegie as well as Henry Ford. The book is as relevant today as it was over 80 years ago now, and will remain timeless as it illustrates that the common thread behind these notable leaders and you can be drawn by following three primary principles.
1. Positive Thinking
2. Desire
3. Purpose
I think it would be tough to argue that positive thinking, desire, and having purpose are not worthwhile traits for a leader to have, and how having all three in abundance would certainly help your personal bottom line.
As the title of this blog suggests I'm going to focus on the exact opposite.
1. Negative Thinking
2. Indifference
3. Aimlessness
Many of you I'm certain are familiar with the Law of Attraction and are believers in it, as I am. We also know it isn't as simple as many like to imagine, and many snake oil salesmen make it out to be. We don't just chant what we want and spout mantras and "boom" we get everything we want. The Law of Attraction simply states that you need to be clear about what you want and spend your thoughts and energy on that thing. Where your mind goes, your body will follow.
So if we agree that the Law of Attraction is simply being clear and spending time on what we want, wouldn't it make sense that it would work in reverse, right?
Negative Thinking (1) is, by definition, stating that the majority of our thoughts are on things that serve a negative end. If our mind is focused on the negatives, such as our low pay, hating working with someone at work, our lack of income as compared to our neighbor, etc., wouldn't it make sense that all the deposits we are making into our negative thought bank are going to outweigh those in our positive thought account? Again... Where your mind goes, your body will follow.
Indifference (2) is by definition not caring about something, and certainly not being filled with desire as those who are succeeding in life. I see desire as leaving no doubt, acting in a way that shows that your goals matter more than anything to you. I recall when Bo Jackson, who was an all-star in both the MLB and NFL (the only athlete to have pulled off being an all-star in both sports to date), demonstrated caring about his goal more than other athletes. An absolutely incredible athlete, but he, at least to me, demonstrated the pinnacle of desire when he'd run in a touchdown. He did no end zone dance, nor pranced 3 yards prior to crossing the line; he left no doubt as to what he wanted and earned. Bo would run all the way through the end zone, and all the way into the tunnel. Loved that. It showed heart, and that he cared, and wasn't afraid to work harder than others to achieve it and go the extra yards.
Aimlessness (3) is a huge component of creating success, or lack thereof. Skills, positive thinking, and caring don't add up as much as they could if you don't know clearly what you actually want. I can speak on this one from personal experience since my father, who has now passed, was clear from age 11 that he wanted to be an author. About 90 published novels later, and thousands of articles written all alongside my mother and love of his life, who co-authored, made it happen and lived the life he was clear on creating. Long days, 7 days a week, with clarity of purpose, positive thinking, as well as unwavering positivity, made it possible.
In closing, I feel it's imperative to remind you that none of the 3 examples, as you might have noticed, suggested that you require some God-given talents. Don't let what you view as a lack of skill be an excuse to not go after your goals, and don't let God-given talents be an excuse for not putting in the work to actualize them.
Don't doubt yourself and make it happen.
1 Quote: (2 this go around)
" There's no talent here, there is hard work. There is an obsession. Talent does not exist, we are all equals as human beings. You could be anyone if you put in the time. You will reach the top, and that's that. I am not talented, I am obsessed."
"Success isn't the result of arrogance - it's the result of belief"
- Conor McGregor
Highly Quotable UFC Fighter, Actor, and Arguably one of the main reasons the UFC is as popular and worldwide as it has become. Believer in himself beyond all else.
1 Question:
What do you want?
Do you have the desire to put in the hard work?
Will you let nothing but positive thinking fill your mind and actions to get it?

Honestly, y'all, I'm begging you. Take the time to think and learn for yourself. Even if it's just something casual like knitting or cooking. Exercise your brain. It's important.

I dunno maybe I’m way way off base and I’m gonna pay for it later in life but I just don’t think that letting my kid dip a few pretzel sticks in Nutella an hour before dinner should be considered morally unconscionable.

Hey i’m a fashion design student so i have tons and tons of pdfs and docs with basic sewing techniques, pattern how-tos, and resources for fabric and trims. I’ve compiled it all into a shareable folder for anyone who wants to look into sewing and making their own clothing. I’ll be adding to this folder whenever i come across new resources

It’s such a shame that so many people forget that the -punk suffix on cyberpunk and solarpunk referred to anarchism and/or anti-capitalism and it’s not just, like, -stuck but for alternate history

“Don’t Work with Death!”
“Don’t work with death, because then you invite it into your house.”
Death is already in my house. Death is everywhere. Death is what decays the plant matter that feeds my garden. Death is what feeds the herbs I use in my spells, for each grows from what died before it.
Death is what feeds my family - death of plants, the death of animals. I would not disrespect the spirits of that which feeds us by ignoring their sacrifice.
Death is the veil between my ancestors and myself, keeping them at rest and then acting as the gate for them to step into their next life.
When I do hospice work and sit with someone who is accepting their approaching death, I don’t tell them death is something to fear or avoid. I tell them death is the friend that walked beside them, every step of their life, maintaining the balance of the world, and waiting for them with open arms, to escort them to rebirth.
“Don’t work with death!”
I would not ignore life’s partner, not for arrogance or fear or ignorance. When I go to my own, I want to greet death with respect, acceptance, and gratitude.

stop shaming people for being passionate about the things that they love. stop mocking people for having unusual interests. like, honestly, i'm so tired of feeling embarrassed for being "too much". if being too much means having deep interests that fill my life with romanticism and excitement, then let me be!!! i'd much rather listen to anyone ranting about their latest obsession with 16th century swords than have a boring ordinary conversation with those who shame passionate people

Solarpunk Action Week 2020 -- Round 2!
Tumblr media
Hey there, space cadets!  Last month’s Solarpunk Action Week took off like a barn fire and exceeded Solarpunk Action Week 2019 by easily a factor of 10, with tons of people getting food planted, learning new skills, building things, reducing waste, spreading information, taking direct action, and getting their neighborhoods and workplaces organized.   So we’ll be doing a followup to coincide with springtime in parts of the southern hemisphere!  Mark those calendars for September 20th-26th!
What is Solarpunk?
Solarpunk is a movement in speculative fiction, art, fashion and  activism that seeks to answer and embody the question “what does a  sustainable civilization look like, and how can we get there?” The  aesthetics of solarpunk merge the practical with the beautiful, the  well-designed with the green and wild, the bright and colorful with the  earthy and solid. Solarpunk can be utopian, just optimistic, or  concerned with the struggles en route to a better world — but never  dystopian. As our world roils with calamity, we need solutions, not  warnings. Solutions to live comfortably without fossil fuels, to  equitably manage scarcity and share abundance, to be kinder to each  other and to the planet we share. At once a vision of the future, a  thoughtful provocation, and an achievable lifestyle.”
And what is Solarpunk Action Week?
Solarpunk Action Week is a week dedicated to taking radical environmentalist and anticapitalist action to make the world a better place.  Previous Action Weeks have seen people starting gardens, learning new skills, making and repairing things, reducing waste, spreading information, getting involved in community organizing.
All you have to do participate is begin or continue with an environmentalist, anticapitalist project and talk about it in the #SolarpunkActionWeek tag; it’ll get a lot of signal boosts to connect with other people around the world doing the same.
- - -
The previous Solarpunk Action Week saw a lot of individual actions, and those were incredible to witness, but we’re at our most powerful when we come together, so your homework for the next 5 months between now and the end of September is:  Get organized!  If we were able to do so much as individuals back in March, just imagine what you could get done rolling into Solarpunk Action Week with a crew ready to go.
If you’re new to organizing, here are some great places to get started:
The Industrial Workers of the World (which has that good good Environmental Unionist Caucus)
Food Not Bombs
Mutual Aid Disaster Relief
Transition Initiative
Buy Nothing Project
Food Not Lawns
Can’t find anything in your area? Start something yourself!
Got 1 or 2 friends? You can start an affinity group
Guide to small-town organizing
7 steps to starting a Food Not Bombs group
Wet’suwet’en supporter toolkit
And I’m sure people will link to all sorts of other great projects and resources in the rebagels, so keep an eye on the notes!
What can I do?
So many things!  You can check out the #SolarpunkActionWeek tag to see what others have done in the past for inspiration.  The two dinguses organizing these events have got resource tags full of just so many things you might could do and how to get started on them, here and here respectively.  And here are some other fun ideas:
Learn how to become a street medic
Learn how to repair clothes
Regrow food plants from kitchen scraps
Recycle scrap fabric into yarn
20 plants to grow indoors
Make your apartment more energy efficient
Build a beautiful and functional vertical garden out of your literal garbage
Other gardening resources
How to make or repair anything
How to organize your community and workplace
How to fight fascism
- - - - - - - - -
Get out there and invent the future, space cadets, because we have a world to win.  I know y’all are gonna make me proud; y’all always do.
If you want to keep up with/support the mods between Action Weeks, here’s our info:
