the look on her face somewhere between disgusted and impressed as she watched shaggy wax poetic over a sandwich and after a moment rolled her eyes, giving into his insistence they stop. “i suppose we’d work more efficiently if we had full stomachs.” she finally responded before her face twisted, “i sounded like v there for a second.” she giggled, before slipping her hand into shaggy’s, “…but ice cream on a sandwich? that can’t be right. in fact i know it’s not right, it’s a crime.”

“like don’t knock it until you try it, daph.” he mused at her, a small blush deepening a freckled face. daphne always made him blush, his hand giving hers a little squeeze. eat your heart out, fred. how did they get here- together; shaggy and daphne; you might ask? shaggy didn’t even know himself. it just happened. and he couldn’t be more happier. “it’s gonna totally blow your mind!” he gave a small laugh as scoob almost huffed in agreement, his free hand coming down to pet scooby’s head. “it’s like ice cream on pizza! the sweet and the savory! like zoinks!”

His eyebrows raised as a grin spread across his lips at the confession, releasing a soft chuckle. “Chrissy, Jason Carver and I might have grown up on the elementary school playground, but that guy beat my ass in tetherball every single day,” he teased, a little glint in his eye as his grin twists into a smirk. “Unfortunately for him, I play the long game.”

“what does that even mean!” her voice was high pitched as she responded to his words, a small snort leaving the cheerleader before covering her nose. “that made no sense, steve!”

the energy of a good practice was always something jason thrived on, and even as he pulled on his letterman jacket and stepped from the locker room calling out goodbyes to the rest of his teammates, his hair still damn and his adrenaline still pumping he felt good. ready to go on with the rest of his day, hurrying to his and chrissy’s meeting spot, as was routine. the cool of slender fingers across his face and familiar arms pulling around him made him grin and before he spoke he’d turned, his hands on chrissy’s hips as he spun her around and leaned into her, kissing her slowly. “guess who, huh? only the prettiest girl in the whole darn world.” he murmured quietly, smiling down at her. “you ready to get out of here, baby?”

it was the way he turned around-- spun her that she let out a small giggle before his lips found hers like always. every time he kissed her, it sent shivers of delight down her spine... especially when he slow kissed her like this. her heart was racing, pounding in her chest and she was afraid jason would hear hit. “flattery always works, jason carver.” a small giggle before her arms snaked around his neck, hanging loosely as a tilt of her head was given. “what are we doing? are you taking me home?” her face twisted into one of disgust. she hated going home. he knew that. because of her mother.

it’s a question she’s used to, her friendship with steve was the talk of the town for a while, with speculation coming in right and left. it’s not a novel concept to her, a guy and a girl being friends and nothing more, so she doesn’t understand why it’s so foreign to others. still– while part of her wishes the assumptions would stop, she’s grateful for them. those assumptions will keep her secret safe after all.

her gaze redirects from the shelf in front of her to the shorter girl, her eyebrow raised,

❝ one, no we’re not dating and steve, well he, ❞ she takes a breath, she knows her best friend has a reputation, that doesn’t mean she’s okay with it,

❝ he’s actually not terrible.. he isn’t that douchebag everyone thinks he is. i mean, yeah, he’s a flirt, but he’s a really great person. i wouldn’t be friends with him otherwise, y'know? ❞

“yeah. didn’t know him when i knew him... when he was mister jock.” there was almost a bitterness to her tone. a sort of--resentment. becky leaned on the shelf slightly, a frown present on her features. “guys like that don’t truly change...” she looked down before shaking her head. “enough about harrington.  we need a girls night or something.”
