Note
oh man please write stuff about midwestern gothic witches
Witches exploring the woods for supplies, picking up shed antlers and long forgotten bones, knowing all the secrets of the forest.
Witches hiding their craft from their families, going to church every sunday before coming home and working in the garden.
Covens meeting in the dead of night, in the forest, keeping an eye out for tracks in the meeting area that shouldn’t be there.
The neighbors commenting how the garden seems to always be free of pests, and the mosquitoes never bother the yard, and asking for the secret to it. They just laugh and say “magic!”
Cats who are fond of only one person, and follow them everywhere, even all over the forest.
Herbs in mason jars and mayo jars of every type. Some of them look otherworldly.
Farmers apologizing to the little old lady neighbor for letting their dog dig up vegetable garden-the crops didn’t come in right, and they’ve lived here long enough to know why
That one house that’s a bit run down? A witch lives there. All the kids say so. One day you knock the door on a dare, and the owner invites you in for cookies they made, and tells you how things were long ago. They give you a strange shaped charm, and ever since then you have good luck.
The strange thing in the forest that leaves unnatural tracks? The teenagers tracking it see it going towards the witch’s house and they just know she’s up to know good. But when they reach the property boundary the tracks veer away sharply, as if frantic to get away.
Witches who have flowers to their bidding, witches who work with herbs, witches who work with bones and fur found in the forest
Witches giving away protective charms, hiding them around the house of the religious families. They know what’s out there, and they’re pretty sure it doesn’t give a damn if you believe in god.
Witches who never tried to leave the midwest-the land claims it’s own, and they know better than to fight against it.
