Yamaha CP4 STAGE Digital Piano Reviews 2018
Here with the fantastic new instrument the yamaha cp4 stage p.m. we're going to get into some of the cool sounds and great features of this instrument and for a great deal check out the bundles for the CP 4 at Kraft music.
so the Yamaha cp4 stage improves the stage piano in every way this is by far the finest stage piano.
I've ever played in all my years at Yamaha so there are three guiding principles about the CP 4 that we really try to really improve one of them is great sound really important another one is great feel and this truly has the best action.
I've ever played and the last one is a great user interface super easy to get to things super easy to change sounds super easy to balance sounds the last thing it's in a really lightweight thirty eight pound box it's great it's easy to take to the gig so let's start out with the first thing most products.
http://piano-reviews.com/yamaha-p105-digital-piano-review/
only give you a single piano maybe another piano and kind of variations of that but the Yamaha cp4 actually gives you three distinctly different concert grand pianos the first one is the CFX second one is the CF 3s two nine-foot concert grands and then the six foot eleven s6 a darker nicer warmer sounding piano so let's start with the CFX.
CFX was a concert gram that was designed to be powerful enough to project over a symphony orchestra acoustically but also has the ability to play extremely soft and expressive beautiful passages as well so let's check that out very big in the middle and the high in the low range but at the same time I can play very subtle beautiful passages I find it's very easy in my left hand to play a nice melody and have that stand out it gives me the control to be able to play soft you really projecting the things that I want to reject and the accompaniment stuff is just nicely down below that I have the control in my fingers to do that it really helps my plane so the CF 3s is the next concert gram that we have this is the contra gram that we had before the CFX it's a little darker it doesn't have the big
http://piano-reviews.com/yamaha-p105-digital-piano-review/
big big sound but it's still a nice big low and high end but it's a warmer feel a little darker I still have that control though it's just a great sound of piano really nice I would probably use this maybe in a solo or even with an ensemble this piano really is a great sounding piano the third piano we have is the s6 it's a six foot 11 inch grand piano.
it's the darkest of the three Oh the s6 is a truly really a nice sounding piano I would use this maybe in a small cocktail party or you know just in something where I want a more intimate darker sounding piano so which piano is the best piano whatever is right for your music is the best piano and all three of them are very different and very usable in different applications I might use the CFX in a rock band or a country band where I need to cut through band playing behind me I might use the CF 3s in a jazz piano trio and the s6 I might use as a solo piano the point is that they're very different pianos and they're all exceptionally playable.
you know I kind of want to just take a second to talk about this action because it's the first thing that I really was blown away about about this instrument this action is a natural wood graded hammer action that features our exclusive gh3 triple strike sensor so basically it's heavier in the low-end lighter in the high-end that simulates the grand piano and the different sizes in the hammers it has a synthetic ivory key top on it and it feels great and the action you can see is a wooden action it's really pretty amazing but the gh3 action is pretty cool because on an upright piano for example I have to bring the key all the way up from the bottom of the stroke in order to reach rigor the note that's different than a grand piano action on a grand piano I don't have to bring the key all the way up to the top .
http://piano-reviews.com/yamaha-p105-digital-piano-review/
one of the significant differences between those two actions it feels so much quicker more responsive and it allows me to really be exceptionally expressive this is the first stage piano that Yamaha has ever made that has this action and let me tell you it is the best action we've ever had in a stage piano I love it the cp4 has some of the best renditions of the vintage time pianos so the first time piano I'll show you is the 71 Rd one this instrument has a mellow sound it had felt hammers.
so let's check it out the next one is the 73 Rd one this was the suitcase model of that time piano it has a little fuller sound then the 75 rd1 even a bigger sound more of a bell like quality then the 78 rd1 this one is bigger sound more poppier then lastly the Dino this was a modification of the time piano this one is much nicer bell-like quality now I want to kind of dig a little deeper into this sound I'm using the 75 Rd one we have a technology called spectral component modeling that is an exclusive technology that we feature in our stage pianos one of the cool things first off is that if I start very softly.
I get progressively louder you can't hear any jumps in a sample level because these aren't really technically samples these are models so in other words that behaves like the real thing like the tying piano another cool feature is if I drop down into an edit mode I can change  things like how much of the key off so how much of the mechanism of the time piano that I'm hearing if I turn it way up factor really hear this I'm going to defeat the reverb this is a cool thing.
I can turn off the reverb right off the front panel how many times as an engineer said hey keyboard player will you please turn off the reverb I can do that instantly I don't have to dig into some menu so now it's completely dry and hear a lot more of that mechanism of the instrument the next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to change the strike position where the pickup is in relationship to the hammer if I move it all the way to the rear I get the sound of the beat-up time piano .
I remember having when I was a kid so so the next instrument I will show you are some of the vintage Reed pianos the other side of the development of the electric piano so the first one is the 69 WR this one is the first model a little darker sound as we move forward the more common one the 77w are so the cool thing about this is in exactly the same way I showed where you can change the key off sound and the pickup position you can do that with these guys as well pretty cool so the next instrument is the yamaha CP 80 C P 70 sound the electric grand.
http://piano-reviews.com/yamaha-p105-digital-piano-review/
that's the sound of the CP you know we're going to get that sound right I remember having one of those when I was in college and the great thing about this one is this is a lot nicer and it weighs 38 pounds and my back doesn't hurt when I look at it so pretty awesome that we have that sound in here as well there's a whole lot of sounds in this instrument and I can't show you every single one of them but I'll show you one more because I think it's pretty cool I have a
Yamaha fc7 expression pedal plugged into the assignable to jack on the back of the instrument here there's actually four pedal inputs and one of the cool things about the bundles at craft is that they'll bundle up any of these combinations of pedals you're going to need this one to do what I'm going to show you so this is the clavinet sound using the virtual circuit modeling effect of the wah-wah pedal .
I have in here check this out you know one last thing about virtual circuit modeling that we have in here this is our patented technology that is so authentic .
I've actually compared it with the real thing and the only thing that I hear a big difference is the noise floor of my old stuff so this is a time piano running through a virtual circuit model phaser that's super authentic you can just take a bath in that sound so awesome now if you remember at the beginning of the video is talking about three things about the stage piano great sound which we've already heard great feel which I've already shown you but let's talk about the user interface.
you know the last model that we had I think the user interface was maybe a little cryptic a little difficult to get around we have changed everything about this one the thing I love about this is everything is right in front of me when I hit electric piano it's going to be an electric piano when I hit electric piano too it's going to be the Reed piano check this out though.
let's say that I have the 71 rd1 the 73 Rd one oh the 75 are d1 well that's my favorite when I hit that button I want that one to show up first so by simply holding shift and selecting that electric piano Bank it does a little housekeeping and it says it's my favorite voice so now when I go back to my CFX piano and I say oh I'm going to play here look at that that's the piano that I wanted I wanted that 75 already one to be the first electric piano so you can really customize this instrument to your music and that's amazing that's a great feature another cool thing since I'm right here is the panel lock switch if I select the CFX and I'm playing a solo if I hit this panel lock switch it locks me out so that when I'm playing and I accidentally maybe come up because I'm getting pretty passionate boom.
I accidentally hit us hit one of the other buttons it's not changing anything that's really cool so now let's talk about layering the instrument there's a few ways to layer because there's a dedicated layer button I can turn it on over here and immediately I have a layer and it say right here what the layer is in the screen it's pointing at that so I can change the layer sound another way to layer with it it's just simply to take maybe the C F stereo piano here and I say one two and I hit two at the same time now it's layer now if I feel like the layers a little too loud I can simply grab the fader here maybe bring the volume of the piano up super easy to do that I love that about this in German it's just instant let's say I want to split the keyboard well there's the split button well wait I don't like where that split point.
http://piano-reviews.com/yamaha-psre253-61-key-digital-piano-review/
I want to change that split point I hold the split button splits exactly where I want it to and the layers on the top really cool so simple what if I just want to get back to the piano I'll just turn them off an improvement over the last model is the addition of this modulation wheel so we have a pitchman and a modulation wheel now it's great on an organ where now I want to speed up the rotary speaker sound.
you notice it speeds up and slows down like the real thing that's a great improvement right there so the cp4 stage great sounds great pianos great elector pianos in fact over 400 additional sounds as well in all sorts of categories strings choir pad all from our motif instruments really cool great touch this graded hammer natural wood action with the triple sensor this is the best action
http://piano-reviews.com/yamaha-p115-vs-casio-px-160/
we've had in a stage piano ever and then a killer user interface with faders easy to select things easy to set splits and layers all sorts of just quick easy easy I love that about this instrument you know lastly it's 38 pounds and another cool thing is on the back I have line outs but I also have XLR outputs so it eliminates the need for direct boxes on a stage that's such a cool feature so once again I'm Blake Angeles from Yamaha here with the Yamaha cp4 stage at Kraft music and remember for a great deal check out the bundles
