What is the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation?

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome was born on December 7, 1963, and is the founder of the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI).  COFI is a non-political, faith-based organization that was established to assist nations, communities, and individuals on a journey toward leading purposeful lives aimed at serving the Lord.  Pastor Oyakhilome’s message and teachings are reflected in COFI’s mission statement and seek to benefit the most vulnerable populations in some of the most impoverished countries of the world.

The foundation aims to offer support for children in poverty internationally through the initiatives put in place and wants to guarantee that these children have access to spiritual and physical nourishment, quality education, and quality medical care.  The foundation wants all children to have competitive, useful, and normal lives and to be productive in their communities so that they can live out the destiny God has in place for them.

COFI supports foundations of community through the promotion of accountability in leadership and sustainable development taking place not only in Africa but also in other vulnerable locations internationally.  COFI has four key areas that they focus on to help produce the greatest impact.

The Chris Oyakhilome Foundation focuses on Early Childhood Education, Healthcare, Youth Leadership Development, and Family strengthening and Livelihood.  The foundation further recognizes the importance of a child’s first years of life and the impact this year has on their future.  Early education provides children with a strong foundation to build a lifetime of learning and growth and eventually lead to success in the future.  Children are the future and investing in them now will eventually benefit the entire community as the child grows, learns, and becomes a productive member of their community.  The foundation meets this goal by funding different research into the different areas of learning to support children’s academic achievement.  COFI wants to help children obtain early education because research has shown a direct link between early education and healthier individuals, high levels of literacy, and positive community participation.

The foundation believes that everyone should have access to quality healthcare that is affordable and recognizes that this is not often available to impoverished communities.  Medical facilities have a difficult time delivering health services to impoverished populations because of a lack of resources, lack of supplies, and lack of quality service providers.  Due to the poverty experienced by certain areas, many individuals are unable to seek the healthcare that they need.  COFI works to ensure that proper healthcare services, management, and better care are provided to these areas so that the strong and healthy communities can begin to develop.

COFI believes that young leaders who are making positive changes should be acknowledged and celebrated.  It believes that the actions of these young leaders are what will change and shape our future.  Young African leaders are supported by the foundation through the Future Africa Leader Awards.  These awards come with grants that allow these youth to continue their work and make the future their vision become a reality.

Finally, COFI believes that the family unit is the foundation of society.  Strong families enhance the development of the child.  The children are the future.  The foundation works to provide parents with the resources and skills they need to ensure the family unit is strong, stable, and thriving.
