“There is no force equal to a woman determined to rise,” W.E.B. Dubois. Women can be heroes, women can be our pride; Catriona Gray, Miss Universe 2018 proved that women can make a big difference. She was oppressed once, she was doubted by people, she stood up and proved them all wrong. She stood up for women empowerment, she stood up for her rights as a woman, she stood up for Filipino families, and she stood up for children.

A woman is entitled to live in dignity and in freedom from want and from fear. Empowered women is also an indispensable tool for advancing development and reducing poverty. Women contribute to the progress, health, and productivity of whole families and communities and to improved prospects for the next generation. It’s so fascinating how Catriona’s sincerity about her advocacy on children works, to be able to help them have better future, be educated, and be themselves. 

Catriona did not live a poor life as the children she’s currently helping, she did not walk without slippers, she did not starve, she did not have the way of life the children she’s working with have right now. Let us see how she pours her heart to the poor; how she become a hero. She’s a country’s pride. Women are coutry’s pride. The difference women can give to humanity is mezmerizing.

“ESSENCE OF A WOMAN”

To be a leader is for sure not an easy task. Gender must not be a factor whether a person can or cannot be a good leader. A person’s leadership capabilities should not be measured through gender but by individual strengths and personal traits.  “Women make better leaders,” said former U.S.A. President Barack Obama.

Angela Merkel, a 59 year old chancellor according to Fortune.com in a survey of The World’s 50 Greatest Leaders 2014 , may be the most successful leader in the world in her time. She was the leader of the European Union, which as a whole is the world’s largest economy, and she held the position for almost nine years. Merkel played the lead role in managing Europe’s debt crisis, keeping the EU intact while setting even Greece on the road to recovery. 

Merkel has what’s called leadership presence, it is one of the keys missing women striving to advance way back. Women have proved that to exist and excel  is possible. The power of being stiff, tough, and accurate in decision making are characteristics of women for which are required to be a good leader. It is a huge responsibility to women being a leader in society and a leader in household, but women managed it, and will continue managing till the very end. Women for women.

For over several centuries, from generation to generation, women have been fighting to achieve the unachieveable. People portrayed women as passive individuals; even in today’s society, many people still think that women’s place is just at home. There has been an imbalance treatment about the role of women around the cultures of every countries across the world. Women for certain, have had a hard time being treated differently in terms of respect and privileges as men.

In present time, after fighting equality of rights, women are atlast visible. They can finally work, marry whoever they please to, and even vote. One example of which is Ellien Arriesgado Conje, Barangay. Captain of Barangay Maya, Daanbanatayan, Cebu; she is the first ever female Captain in that brgy. Women have been degraded and treated lesser in terms of working and in political field. Ellien Conje who started as a secretary of the said brgy., eventually became number 1 councilor after a couple of years of service, and later on became the first female captain of Barangay Maya. She proved that no matter how cruel the mindset of the society about women, women would still fight for their rights in whatever aspect of life. 

While there are still inequality dwelling in particular corners of the world, women for women would continue fighting until they get the freedom and equality they deserve.  There should be measures to ensure equal opportunities between men and women. Woman should not be constantly looked as lesser; from social freedoms to political rights.
