I did such a good job keeping my sugars in line for the last few days and now they’ve spiked randomly to 270 and I feel as bad as if they were 400. Wrecked my high sugars tolerance smh

thank you SO much for the t2d post, t1ds will 100% stay the grossest, meanest shit about folks with type 2 like, constantly and i hate it. yeah we all wish t1d could be "sOlVeD wItH dIeT aNd ExErCiSe" but that's not even possible for everyone with type 2! and if you look at the socioeconomic factors involved in who's most likely to have type 2, you might notice some obvious barriers to solutions like diet and exercise! it's not a competition!!!! i hate it.
yeahh for real like. some of it is just straight up fatphobia, bc t1ds are no less susceptible to it than anyone else in a fatphobic society, and despite potentially being more medically informed, not necessarily that much less likely to moralize health or buy into harmful stereotypes about t2d.
and some of it is a rly unfortunate response to genuine frustration that I do understand. most people hear 'diabetes' and assume type 2, yes. most people don't know shit about t1d, yes. people will offer us useless advice or make very nasty judgments that were intended for a type 2 recipient - but there's the problem: t1ds end up in this particular and cruel position in which we recognize the way we are treated as bad bc we are not its intended targets and we defend ourselves by reminding people who the real and deserving targets of bad treatment are: t2ds. t1ds get to do this rhetorical sleight of hand by repositioning ourselves as the innocent diabetics who just happened to be cursed by fate, and then join the rest of society in condemning t2ds as lazy and fat and unhealthy and culpable for their own disease. as if it's the fault of t2ds that people are shitty to all of us! as if it's the fault of t2ds that people don't understand or will downplay type 1 - as if people don't do the same with type 2. it is in fact the fault of people being ableist toward diabetics, all of us - imagine that.
and the absurd thing is.. this disavowal doesn't even work. it doesn't help us! there's no amount of diabetics we can throw under the bus that will make people treat t1ds better! as long as diabetes is so stigmatized and mocked and joked about and misunderstood and used as a cudgel of shame, t1ds are not getting out of this minefield either! BUT... if people treated t2ds with dignity and respect and didn't ask invasive questions and didn't make cruel assumptions and didn't provide horrible medical care (and if society ever deals with fatphobia at large, too), that would be good for ALL diabetics. our lives and wellbeing are not separate and cannot be improved by disavowing and siding against the more stigmatized group.
@/ifwerefree said in the tags of the post that being t1d means people will try to show you sympathy by being ableist to type 2s - and they absolutely will. it's on us as t1ds not to agree with it. it's not gonna help any of us. actual solidarity might, though.

hm okay medtronic guardian sensor isn't *bad* per se, I do like that it talks to the pump and it seems pretty accurate but it NEVER lasts the full 7 days. day 5 or 6 it always starts getting errors and losing signal. sometimes even by day 4. and unfortunately my sugars are very precarious lately and I kind of need the sensor but I don't waaaant to be changing it every 5 days when it's supposed to last 7 ://

I'm doing a first aid training for my job and they say you can give a glass of milk for a diabetic emergency, like as an equivalent alternative for sugar and I'm like ???? milk??? I'd understand giving milk as a stabilizing food or something after someone's sugar comes up but not for an extreme low?? When I was diagnosed (admittedly 20 years ago) they told me to drink a glass of milk as a bedtime snack specifically because it wouldn't affect my sugars much at all.... ?
Like why not just say to give the person sugar, candy, juice? Why add milk as an option at all?

I know this might be a long shot, but do you happen to know if cortisol crashes can cause an increase in appetite? I’m recovering from some and my appetite has really increased.
oh interesting I’m not sure? I know some of the meds like hydrocortisone are supposed to have an effect on appetite so if you’re updosing meds that could increase your appetite… or I could see it being a stress thing, like in order to recover from the crashes your system just really wants more fuel

being diabetic + neurodivergent is such a combo because its like "oh? you want to eat food? heres a list of steps u have to do before u can eat. and then u have to make the food. actually u should have made it earlier cause now u gotta eat something else or ur gonna die. and also if u want to eat more than u planned for well uhm too bad loser" like HHhHVHGFCVJH WHY CANT IT JUST BE SIMPLE. I DONT WANT TO DO ALL THESE THINGS JUST SO I CAN EAT

"A 25-year-old woman in China is the first person worldwide to have type 1 diabetes reversed through stem cell therapy.
The therapy used the patient’s own cells to create personalized stem cells, which were then used to grow fresh insulin-producing islets.
This breakthrough offers hope for millions with diabetes, potentially eliminating the need for daily insulin injections and reducing complications.
In a groundbreaking medical achievement, a 25-year-old woman in Tianjin, China, has had her type 1 diabetes reversed through a novel stem cell therapy. This marks the first time such a feat has been accomplished globally, offering new hope for millions living with the chronic condition.
The patient, who had been struggling with type 1 diabetes, underwent a pioneering treatment that involved converting her own cells into personalized stem cells. These stem cells were then used to grow fresh clusters of ‘islets,’ the hormone-producing cells in the pancreas responsible for regulating blood sugar levels.
As Nature reports, this therapy’s unique approach of transplanting the newly created islets into the patient’s upper abdomen near her pancreas sets it apart from previous islet transplant methods. This strategic placement allows for easier monitoring via MRI, a significant advantage over traditional liver transplants.
“I can eat sugar now,” the woman said on a call with Nature. After over a year since the transplant, she says, “I enjoy eating everything — especially hotpot.” The woman asked to remain anonymous for privacy reasons.
Experts are astonished at the results, according to Timesnownews. “They’ve completely reversed diabetes in the patient, who was requiring substantial amounts of insulin beforehand,” said Dr. James Shapiro, a transplant surgeon and researcher at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.
The implications of this breakthrough are far-reaching, as it could potentially revolutionize the way we treat diabetes. By using a patient’s own cells to create personalized stem cells, this therapy bypasses the limitations of donor islet shortages and the need for immunosuppressive drugs, which have hindered the success of conventional transplant methods.
‘If this is applicable to other patients, it’s going to be wonderful,’ diabetes researcher Daisuke Yabe of Japan’s Kyoto University told reporters via Daily Mail.
As the world watches closely, the success of this case sparks hope for the millions of individuals living with type 1 diabetes. It represents a significant step forward in regenerative medicine and paves the way for further research and development in the field."

Hey btw celiac havers PSA that
The generic aldi cereals have wheat in them now and don't say "new recipe!" or something on the box anywhere
I've only checked the reeses puffs & cookie crisp knockoffs, but I wouldn't be surprised if more are affected
I didn't notice until after getting poisoned 👍 and I'm lucky enough that my reaction is too mild to sue anyone over, but this could very well kill someone. It's actually insane to me that they can get away with adding a common allergen without any obvious indicator that the ingredients changed
