✧ late night swimming lessons

Linong knows he’s absolutely going to receive a stern scolding and probably restrictions if caught doing this, but the scenery surrounding him completely outweighed the potential negatives – the moon shining down on him, welcoming him to the darkness of the night, lit up by twinkling stars, the night breeze tickling his exposed face and slightly chilling the water hugging his body. Swimming at the lake without supervision and after curfew is definitely going to go on the list of “things I shouldn’t be doing but I did them anyway”, but the boy isn’t too fazed. He’s had his fair share of light scolding’s in school – can the professors really punish the rich heir? – and ninety percent of the things on this list was worth whatever punishment he received or will receive. 

Floating on his back, facing the night sky, Linong is not bothered or fazed by anything that could potentially scare him or even harm him, too engrossed and in awe with the beauty of nature at night. Until, he feels a tickle from the cold and turns to face the edge of the lake and spotting a figure in the distance. Even without knowing whether the figure is of a member of staff or another camper such as himself, he swam closer to the figure; too dark and slightly too far away to make out a familiar face. 

“Hey, the water feels really good. Do you want to join me?” Linong calls out to the figure when he is within reasonable distance, close enough that he did not have to shout and close enough to recognize the figure to be another camper he had seen within passing.

✧ a shark at sunrise

Linong stared into the horizon, counting down the minutes left until sunrise. Yes, he knows that he is not supposed to be swimming in the lake without supervision, but he figured that no one would be up this early anyway, so he wouldn’t get caught, right? 

One of things on top of his bucket list this summer is to watch the sunrise, and not just any sunrise, but a sunrise surrounded by nothing but nature. And this was definitely something he would not be able to see in China. 

It was literally the morning after Linong arrived at Camp Haven and the boy just could not wait, too impatient but mostly excited to finally cross something off of his list. Everything was absolutely perfect right now, the beautiful scenery in front of his very eyes, the slight chill of the water and breeze, and the quietness of the morning. There were only a few minutes left until he would be able to see the sun peek out from the horizon and then he would go back inside his cabin as if he didn’t already break a rule the morning after arriving.

✧ squirrel attack

At first, there was one. Then another. Then another. Perhaps a family? But then came another. And another – to the point where Linong stopped counting because he physically couldn’t with all them practically on top of him. 

Before the attack, Linong decided to walk around the camp premises to visit the spots that he thought were rather fascinating during the tour his cabin counselor had been so kind to give him on his first day. All of them were situated outdoors for the boy who lived in the city for all his life – the lake, hiking trails, and the outskirts of the woods. He situated himself by the lake, which is probably going to be his most favorite location in camp because when will he ever see such a massive lake in the middle of Taipei and Beijing? 

Leaning against the trunk of a large tree that sat a good distance away, he stared in awe at the wide, picturesque view of the water, sky, trees, and the natural surroundings right in front of him. A furry animal came into his vision while staring out into the distance, slowly approaching him towards his sprawled-out legs. It was a squirrel. A small, cute one and Linong practically cooed at it for coming out to greet him. “Hello, little one. Are you here to keep me company?” The squirrel was hesitant at first, but decided to lay on top of his legs, right by his shoes. He smiled at this adorable situation and tried his best to stay still to not frighten the animal. 

It wasn’t long before another one magically appeared on top of his legs, and then another one on his lap, and then another one on top of his shoulders. The more they came, the more Linong couldn’t control his laughter because he was extremely ticklish and the squirrels on him weren’t making it any easier. “Okay, okay, you all can keep me company.” He laughed in between his words as more squirrels attacked him, absolutely shocked but found the entire situation hilarious.

✧ 17; born in taipei, taiwan ✧ upperclass; the one and only heir of his family’s successful business conglomerate ✧ tall but soft baby who just wants to experience true freedom, create new memories, and do everything and anything he can’t do in china ✧ discovered his abilities when he was 11, saving his family from a fatal car accident by manipulating time ✧ grew up very sheltered even til now ✧ parents were very reluctant to send him to a school for the gifted but eventually gave in for his safety and protection ✧ parents valued his future of take over the company one day and wasn’t really interested in his gifted abilities and tried their best to raise him as if he was “normal” despite reluctantly sending him to the school for the gifted ✧ due to his status, he was unnecessarily under guard throughout school, making it hard for him to make friends and approach others ✧ he’s learned to not open up easily bc of his naivety and of other people’s false impressions ✧ there is a lot of pressure and expectations from his parents so he feels very restricted when it comes to set rules and doing things the way his parents tell him to ✧ so he grew a tendency to bend the rules and sometimes break them completely with a valid, thought-out reason ✧ gets scolded a lot by his teachers for minor pranks but his status allow him to get away just a scolding ✧ would never hurt a fly unless it was absolutely necessary ✧ doesn’t really have a choice but to do well in school but luckily for him he learns and understands quickly ✧ often dragged by his parents attending meetings in other countries so he’s had private tutors in english, korean, and japanese ✧ living in the city all his life, he craves freedom (from his parents and the buildings walls) and seeks adventures and the smell of nature ✧ goals of coming to camp haven is to break away from his sheltered life and learn more about the world and other mutants, get away from his parents surveillance, and experience everything he can that china and his parents would never allow ✧ pls love him bc i promise he’ll love you back
