Can we take a moment to think about the younger trans men and mascs on tumblr right now?

I was a teenager when ace and transmed discourses were at their peaks, and I can’t exaggerate how badly it affected me then.

Now trans men are the latest target, and I’m terrified for trans kids.

It’s easy to say “intracommunity discourse is an online problem! Go talk to queer people irl!”, but people forget that so many kids and teenagers do not have safe or reliable access to IRL LGBT+ communities and support groups. For many, online spaces are the only option.

We need to make sure the younger members of our community are being heard, and block out the hateful voices with messages of support and encouragement. Things are bad enough for trans people right now, and it's easy to forget that trans minors are often the ones suffering the most.

To any younger trans men or transmasculine people reading this:

The hate you are experiencing isn’t normal, it hasn’t always been like this, and it won’t always be this way. It is bleeding out from a small, miserable group of self-absorbed jerks.

Don’t feel obligated to call them out, don’t feel like you have to interact with these people. Please don’t doomscroll through discourse tags; it will make you feel like everyone is out to get you.

If you want to speak up for your community, that’s fine, but please take a break if you feel like your mental health is worsening. Block anybody who so much as breathes rudely in your direction.

You’re just as trans as the rest of us. You are welcome here.

Oh, and if you want to seek out external resources and groups, PFLAG helped me a lot when I was younger. It is an American-based organization, however, so if anyone has recommendations for those living outside of the US, please let me know in the reblogs!

he was probably that kid who interacted better with his teachers than his peers and got called a teacher's pet for it. he Wants To Make Friends but he can't figure out the rules. mentorship and authority figure interactions Come With Rules whereas with friendships you have to Make The Rules. i also think he's kind of a perfectionist and he's very scared of getting it wrong. i don't think he's a ball of anxiety, he's laid-back IN GENERAL but when it comes to socialization....ough

i hc him as being around the same age as the younger agents but just not knowing how to interact with them. best he can do is a quick flash of amused eye contact with Neon every time something funny happens

also his infodumps are the BEST THING. when the younger agents want to pull him into a conversation they get him started on music or books and it works everyyyyy time :)

today's me/cfs/chronic fatigue product of the day is the reachy-grabber. i've started keeping mine at my bedside and that extra three feet of reach helps me so much! relevant info: if you have pain in your hands/wrists, using the button on the reachy grabber may make that worse. for me the tradeoff is worth it and i've noticed it's easier to use if i'm wearing my wrist brace. mine cost about $14 USD and i bought a more expensive one because the cheaper one broke. bonus: if you're a wheelchair user this thing will save your life trust me

for my fellow me/cfs friends who struggle with hydration: i humbly recommend the owala. this is not an ad of any sort i am actually just so excited to have found a water bottle that works the way i need it to

reasons it works:

1. relatively lightweight

2. the spout part has a pour option and a straw option (looks like this)

this makes it so i can sip from it without sitting up, which is very helpful for rough flare-ups. it's not spill-proof but i'm 90% sure they have an option that is. also, there is no shame in choosing a "kid's" bottle for the spill-proof feature, i've done that too. owala has neutral patterns even on the kids' options

3. very easy to wash (not dishwasher safe but i just give it a little rinsey rinsey with some dish soap probably not as often as i should and call it good)

4. keeps the water cool which is great for me because i can't always get up and get more and i'll be damned if i'm gonna drink lukewarm water ever

i will say, it can't be used with hot beverages, which works fine for me since i only put water in it.

relevant info: it's $30 (USD) for the 24oz size, i am mod/severe for reference as far as me/cfs goes, and it also doesn't trigger my sensory issues

anyways, hydration is hard with me/cfs and honestly probably a ton of other conditions and anytime i find something that helps with ADLs i'll reblog this post and share when i get a chance :)

also. offtopic but. breach may not be my ultimate fav but god does his backstory fuck hard

he was a congenital amputee, but that didn't make him any less in the crime family he was in and he was fully part of it. however when his whole family got tried and jailed, he was let off out of pity bc of his disability.

in response, breach made his arms, and promptly became such a menace of a damn terrorist he had to run from sweden and can likely never return there

disabled people are so often shown as fragile, especially physically disabled people, and it's encouraged to see them as pitiable, so it's very very nice to have a story that directly contradicts that notion - that him being let off was an insult, not something to be grateful for.

so yeah, shoutout to breach valorant. i won't sit and act like he's the best rep in the world, but that kind of attitude in fiction and in real life is so rare it's nice to see

first of all: so sorry it took me like a gajillion years to answer this, i wrote half an answer but the words just weren't wording that day so i saved it to drafts and then it ceased to exist because it was out of my direct sight. you have adhd you get it breach was actually not a fave of mine at first but then i started writing the raze fic and now he's not only a fave but also i want to study him in a lab. i had to figure out how to write him and he grew on me bigtime. his backstory FUCKSSSSSSSSS

i just like. i love the "you weren't scared of me and That Was A Mistake" concept with him it reminds me of when neon's surge protector gets shot in that one cinematic (shattered, maybe?) and she says "that's not good....for you" and then casts lightning magic at the bots like it's the same vibe to me?

i absolutely agree w your thoughts on how his backstory completely subverts the idea that disabled=powerless/weak. i think a lot about him being one of the people who can relate to deadlock on a very complex set of feelings re: power/strength after her amputation. acquired + congenital disability solidarity 🤝 his bromance triangle with deadlock & skye is incredible and i love his chosen sibling dynamic with raze. breach. my favorite morally gray character. menace and war criminal. like, i've written 4k words from his perspective for this fic and i still can't really pin down his characterization because most of what we see of him is When He's In Battle and Right Before Battle. and like, have you ever met someone outside of work/school and been like "this cannot possibly be the same bitch"? i feel like breach is like that. terrifying on the field but actually a chill guy once he drops the worksona and gets back to his drums stand-up and such. complicated individual that one. strange bloke truly /affectionate

And this is coming from a disabled person with chronic pain who can leave the house and walk (with some pain) without mobility aids.

i. love. jungleheal. friendship. holy shit. you're so right about their similar values. and the VOICELINES. this is slightly off-topic but skye is the "maintains really good work-life balance" friend and sage is the "sleeps in her office" friend.

also that voiceline made me realize that there is probably a line outside the infirmary for sage on a daily basis. you just know they all fall apart when she's on her lunar new year vacay. meanwhile skye is like "that is a papercut! it's a papercut! you get shot on a regular basis that's a fucking papercut!" oh i was thinking about this like a couple days before you sent this ask!!

the answer i landed on is persistent post-concussive symptoms + hyposmia and hypogeusia (decreased smell and taste, respectively). my hc is that she had a long recovery after a TBI, and that she lost her taste and smell for awhile as a result of said TBI. it came back eventually but not all the way.

i also think her personality changed in ways she didn't expect after the injury and that she probably still struggles with some executive function related difficulties as a result as well

also, funny personal sidenote, i have decreased taste and smell due to long covid and it affects me very little now but back when it was no taste and smell my prior workplace caught on fire and i found out via ✨ email ✨ because i didn't smell the smoke and the fire alarm didn't go off. 💀 and that's skye-coded to me

i think skye has what my therapist refers to as "forest wizard autism" like i'm positive her nature infodumps are the best thing ever and she can identify a fuckton of plants at first glance. and her and deadlock's hiking trips are just

i need to elaborate more on kj and jett at some point they are like my puppies. tragic puppies. but alas, i have no energy today

so, i'll just say this:

jett, aka sunwoo, has a big sister who only a few of the younger agents know about. her name is sunhyeon, and sunwoo insists that she's the best person in the world.

their parents weren't the Greatest, so sunhyeon half-raised her in a way, always the encouraging force their overly critical parents never could be, and she helped teach her to cook. she was disappointed when she gave up on her passion running to instead become a cook at their restaurant, but understood - it took everything in her to go to med school against her parents' wishes, and only stayed in contact with sunwoo.

but of course... the seoul storm. venice.

suddenly, everyone knew her sister's name. suddenly, the entire world was on a manhunt for her. (and before all that came a desperate knock at her door; wide, scared blue eyes that no longer matched the brown shade of hers due to radiance; saying she needed a way out of south korea, now.) suddenly, the country she could have made proud at the olympics disavowed her and had to make reparations to italy.

suddenly, the entire world hated her baby sister.

these being the last pics she has of her baby sister... and she can't explain it, not even to herself, but that is not her baby sunwoo.
