AIDS quilt contributions for Muppet performer Richard Hunt (1951-1992), who was the original muppeteer for characters including Scooter, Janice, Beaker, Sweetums and Statler. He began his career with the Henson body of work as a performer on Sesame Street in the 1970s, and was a major presence in a number of Henson's most famous creations, including The Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock.

Hunt was openly gay and one of Jim Henson's closest colleagues, orating and performing at his memorial service. When Hunt passed away from AIDS-related complications less than two years after Henson's own loss, he would have a service at the very same church where he memorialized his friend.

This quote always makes me sob, because it directly states to the audience the intent of the Muppets. Unlike VFX, puppetry forces you to suspend your disbelief. To believe, to pretend that a better world is waiting, where there is a world where muppets and men coexist side by side. Where Gonzo can really shoot out of the cannon. Where Fozzie can tell bad jokes and get booed, but still get up and try again. Where a frog and a pig can find love, drift apart, and find each other... again and again. The colorful, imaginative and decidedly queer world of the Muppets is possible, if only we write the ending we want to see into the world.

I wish people would understand that not everything is for everyone to get. you will be left out of some conversations, a lot of art will not apply to you, you will not like things that people you like enjoy, and just because you cannot add to the topic of discussion or relate does not mean that it is not valued or worthwhile. the internet has coddled people to such a concerning extent that everyone feels like they need to vocally disagree with something just because they don’t get it.
