Unsurprisingly, Kass places a very high value on family. He adores his wife and his five daughters, not just for their own love of singing but also because they’re his. He may have a sense of wanderlust to him, chasing after the legacy of his late mentor and seeking answers to riddles that have long plagued the ruined lands of Hyrule, but he tries to write frequently back home.

Even while on his quest, though Link stumbled upon him many times, it wasn’t uncommon for the pleasant bard to make his way home whenever he could, especially for special dates and occasions for his family. Once his quest is complete, they’re his first priority.

I’ve had an hc for a while that the rito place a high priority on family and legacy, not unlike the Hylian royal family, and Kass is no different. However, unlike many others, his legacy is one of song and stories. He wants to make sure that when he leaves this world for the beyond, his daughters will not remember him for a bow but for a ballad, passing that on to their own children in turn.

Family is a song and a story, after all. He intends to write a beautiful one.

Despite what he would have people believe, Revali’s a restless sleeper who often can’t settle down enough to sleep. Part of it is his own constantly roiling mind, especially once he takes on the role of the Champion of Winds. He may show a solid, determined front to those around him, but there’s a lot riding on his shoulders, and unlike other rito who have parents, siblings, or children to fall back on, he’s mostly alone, save for the families that communally raised him... and he doesn’t want them - or the rest of his people - to see him as weak.

Another is that he simply isn’t very good at taking time for himself. Obsessed with being the best of the best, unrivaled in the air and unparalleled with a bow, he trains rigorously, and often times the only sleep he really gets is when he dozes off out of sheer exhaustion. More than a few times he’s been found in difficult to reach places in Rito Village, lightly dozing simply because he fell asleep where he landed.

Suffice to say, it’s not often he’s well rested. The only times he’s gotten decent sleep have been times Princess Zelda has managed to slip something calming into his tea or water. No one knows if he’s figured her out.

I was watching some Zelda theory videos and stumbled upon this one, that sticks out in my mind, and I’m inclined to believe with it. I’m also adopting it as the hc for Revali here. According to “Creating A Champion,” the rito people have poor night vision, like many types of real life birds.

It’s also worth noting that the fight on Vah Medoh happened after nightfall.

Revali is a skilled flier and an archer of unmatched skill. He’s cocky and headstrong, sure, but his boasts don’t come from puffing himself up: he genuinely is the best warrior the rito have seen in several generations, and given a more fair fight, he may have even succeeded that night on the Divine Beast... but it was never going to be a fair fight, and he was even more disadvantaged by poor lighting, leaving him at a considerable disadvantage.

He may never had admitted it, but it must have been terrifying, fighting half blind against an opponent barely lit in the shadow, whose occasional bright teleporting likely would’ve screwed with his vision even worse.

It was not as noble a defeat as he’d have liked.
