Fresh Guacamole - Pes

I love the PES videos. What I think makes them so successful is the quality of the objects they choose to represent other objects. It comments on "thingness" and similarities and differences between materials that make us rethink our world view just a little.

Happy Film Titles

Happy Film Titles - I think it's interesting that he used food and animals to make the titles. These are two things I really associate with happiness. I also have been amazed at  how internet video has furthered the discussion of people and animals deep connection to each other. It's one of the sweetest things to come from technological advance.

Wanderers

There are many space-themed movies out there. The interesting thing about this one is the narration connects our ancient selves with our future selves and the qualities of human nature that remain consistant. That's what I like the most about this piece.

Aug(De)Mented Reality

I like how the artist uses the plastic page as the arbiter or border between the real and animated worlds. He doesn't hide his process and so the "artist's hand" remains visible in the work. I would like to see your paintings sometime and talk about combining painting and video in a project perhaps. Also have you seen the graffiti animation of BLU? Check it out, it's great.

George Harrison Concert Video

The George Harrison concert video makes me think about video as document. We have so much now that it almost feels weird when something happens and there is no document, but it wasn't always that way. YouTube has collected the sum of everything everyone has ever recorded and so there is so much more than we even knew, but it is during this very narrow band of time that is during yours and my lifetimes. We are the most documented few generations EVER.

Great shots and I was glad to see this guy is doing movie stunts because he should make some good money while he's young and fit like that. Notice how the video just helps pump the drama and beauty of his moves with the time remapping and the angles. A lot of shots are from low angled up so you don't see the ground, just the sky and it just looks like he's flying.

BASIC CAMERA OPERATION FOR CANON VIXIA HFR21

User Manual Table of Contents is on pages 10-13

1      Power Switch ON

2      Open LCD Display, look for FUNC in upper left.  If it disappears, tap the screen and it will reappear.

3      White Balance (page 73 in Manual):  Press WB and then chose AWB or Custom WB.  With Custom WB, point the camera at something white and press again. Hold down until icon stops blinking.

AWB is best if you are moving from one kind of light to another.  Custom WB is best in one type of light. Your reference white can be a piece of paper or card, but must be in the same lighting that is lighting your subject.

4      Video Quality (p 60):  Use XP+. Do not use LP or MXP. SP or FXP is ok. Most important thing is to use the same quality for all your footage.

5      Frame Rate (p 61): Use PF30.  

        Do not use PF24.  60i is okay, but not recommended.

6      Recording: Press red button. Press red button again to stop recording.

When done shooting, before you return camera:

1      Every time you finish with your camera you must drag all files from the camera to your external drive.

2      Make a folder on your external drive called Video_TodaysDate (example: Video_April2) and drag the entire folder (or package) named AVCHD from the camera.

3      If you do multiple shooting days, make a folder for each day and put each AVCHD folder inside a dated folder.

4      Erase footage from the camera, if you need room for more footage. (Deleting Scenes, page 56 of manual.)
