“you couldn’t make this movie today” not because of cancel culture but because big studios aren’t willing to take risks on cool fun new ideas instead of adaptation number 7,000

No matter what you believe it doesn't matter, very few on both sides believe what you do as well so it doesn't change much or even anything at all, we need to face the facts sooner or later and it's only naive and silly to hope for a cotton candy peaceful ending, centuries of radicalization needs centuries of deradicalization to undo it completely and even then there's a chance it won't work cause the radicalization is still going on and there are forces beyond our control keeping it in work, this either keeps going for decades to come or even more, or it ends tragically, and it has nothing to do with being hopeless and pessimistic it's just accepting the reality
Peace can be very pragmatic and supporting it isn’t about expecting a perfect resolution where everyone suddenly agrees. It’s about acknowledging that the status quo isn’t sustainable. Decades of war have done nothing but deepen suffering and they won’t “resolve” themselves through more violence. Endless war and occupation aren’t sustainable either morally, economically or politically, and eventually all conflicts end, but the question is how much destruction happens before that.
Like you're right that the depth of radicalization, trauma, and manipulation on both sides makes any peaceful resolution incredibly difficult. It's not naive to acknowledge that. I hear what you’re saying and I don’t disagree that the situation is bleak. But saying “nothing will ever change” isn’t realism..it’s surrender.
No one who believes in peace thinks it’ll be clean or easy. The two-state solution isn’t perfect but it’s still one of the only frameworks that acknowledges the rights of both peoples. Just because extremists dominate the stage now doesn’t mean they always will. That kind of fatalism is exactly what prolongs the violence. People still living through airstrikes, blockades, and occupation can’t afford the luxury of hopelessness and neither should we.

"israeli backlash" = just the government, by the way. the response on israeli social media has been pretty funny, including comments such as "can we cancel his israeli visa too" and "why couldn't they do it after he landed in australia so he could get stuck there and not here"
rothman is a piece of shit. beyond being a member in smotrich's party (which should say enough about him as is), he's the leading figure in the so-called "judicial reform" (since late 2022 when the current knesset was formed), aka the "neutering the israeli judicial system and making israel into a fully fascistic state, one small step at a time" plan. aka the "literally tore israeli society apart so hard it was actually one of the main factors that enabled the 7/10 massacre" plan. he's probably one of the most highly detested members of the current government/knesset, which is saying something considering everything
So apparently my country has cancelled this man's visa, leading to a diplomatic breakdown between Australia and Israel. Can anyone tell me who he is and why he is bad/controversial? Asking in good faith.
I know I could Google him, but TBH I'm keen to hear it from Jumblr folks.
Open to all answers, however I'm particularly interested in hearing from Israelis on this one.
#this is really just the tip of the iceberg because doing and saying horrendous shit is like a hobby to him#so i'm not gonna take a deep dive and give more specific examples or quotes or whatever#just know that he's one of the single worst members of the current israeli government and knesset

i just can't convey the frustration and sorrow that it's been to grow up at first without the internet and then watching it bloom into this useful, fun, connecting force you sometimes spent time on, only for it to degrade into this constant oppressive waste of time and energy where people are constantly pumping out algorithmically designed content for max algorithmic appeal and even the most simple search generates either no results or an infinite abyss of ai generated slop none of which is usable or correct. we briefly had a library of alexandria and then fed it into a paper shredder so advertisers could sell a random mash of pulp back to us at a premium.
