#tbt to the sketchiest actual functional gas station I've ever gotten gas at @rawforreel the longest 3hr Costa Rica jungle drive....lasted 7hrs... Perhaps due to this gas station ;) (at Paraíso Santa Cruz Guanacaste)

Day 3: A new level of 'rustic' and some yogi pants.
5:30am realized there is no water or electricity…again. It’s day 3 and 2 out of the 3 days this has been the case….not sure what I signed up for here. Concern setting in….two weeks to go….status on the rescue party folks?!
Exhaustion. Heat. Humidity. So many mangos… I don’t like mangos. Where is all he amazing fruit I had day dreamed up on my way down here?!? Not mangos, anything but mangos!
9am time to share. By share I mean share the deepest depths of our souls, the things that haunt us and have fucked our lives - share them with perfect strangers….interesting concept. I’m skeptical, but actively participating. Again - mom you’d be proud😉.
It’s obvious the ridiculous amount of tight, spandex Lululemon I brought on the adventure are not practical! We’ve all discovered this as we sit here, soaking in our sweat with the 90% humidity sharing looks of disgust….or maybe it’s just heat exhaustion, either way this is an unimpressed looking group of shiny shiny people.
Another grueling practice, another change of clothes…at this rate of 4 changes a day I’ll be out of clothes by weeks end.
The heat has broken me. Trying to put on and take off wet sports bras has led me to shear exhaustion. The kind where you could just sleep on the concrete floor half dressed as doing anything more is unfathomable.
So I did it. I broke down. I bought yogi pants, harem pants in the jungle. I put them on for evening practice. Oh. My. Gawd. They are gods gift to humanity! I’m so in love yet so ashamed 😂 they are light and flowy and soft and it feels like a no pants party…💛
It’s obvious the jungle has changed me….. I still don’t like mangos, but I 💛 my yogi pants.

Day 2: continued....
Free time!!!! From noon to 2pm we get to eat lunch and play!! It's like the best recess ever! We scarf down our food and rush outside - remember when you were a kid and you couldn't eat fast enough as you just wanted to go play outside. It was like that but with big people 😋. If you know anything about me, you know i❤️ coconut! So, of course I buy a coconut from Marcos, my new bff, on the way down to the beach, but today I realize not only can I drink the yummy coconut water, her will then crack it open - make me a spoon from coconut shell - and then I get to eat the coconut! Sidebar: Whitney and I tried this in Belize with a rouge coconut we found. It involved wine and machete, as you would imagine it was not like this. For so many reasons. Fresh coconut, beach, huge surf, hot sun. I'm in heaven. Speaking of heaven, today was my grampas birthday. I stood in the surf, his St Christopher around my neck, and cried a little. Ok maybe a lot. But for the first time it felt good. Look at me go - day 2, already showing emotions 😂 Whitney, Mom, you'd be so proud 😘 Foot swelling has not subsided.... My neighbor has a literal apothecary of essential oil and he made this spray for the swelling - it stings like all hell and smells like Italian food - mmmm I'm hungry, it's become very obvious it's going to be hard to live of beets and kale.... Roomie and I have quickly let go of all shyness through necessity. In just two days we both went from shy pee'ers to peeing and brushing our teeth together. Who knows what tomorrow may hold! (Assuming perhaps a mental and physical breaks down? ). Xo C.

Day 2: We survived day 1. That is all.
We (my roomie and I) went to bed at 9pm, yet 5am still came far too quickly. Coffee is ready at 5:30, yet we are awakened by a literal symphony of jungle creatures….and some roosters…promptly at 5am. So many roosters. I’m from cattle country, mind you I live in the city, and have never lived on a farm, soooo - moot point - anyhow, I have never seen so many roosters! Big ones, little ones, creepy ones, pretty ones, red ones, brown one, white ones! As I said, so so so many, roaming freely.
Dinosaurs, aka howler monkeys, roosters, stray dogs, housed dogs, crickets, birds of all feathers and us - our little group of yogis in training, up and at ‘em at the literal break of dawn.
It’s only day 2 and the morning routine already feels like a routine. We wander down to get our water and fresh lime (for our liver detox)….I swear it’s not rehab, grab some crazy Costa Rican coffee - holy crap - literally - and then walk silently to the beach for our meditation.
There is a pen of horses, I use the term loosely, like most things here, it’s a bunch of wood and barbed wire. The most stunning horses live there. They greet us, and the littlest one decides to walkout and join us through the 'gate’, I half thought he’d come meditate with us.
I have to say there is nothing if not humor in every situation I’ve encountered by far. Even in trying to wrangle this creature and get it back into it pen. We have a lovely local who has joined us for training, a Peruvian surfer who truely lives by tiko time (like island time, but not on an island 😉) and may be the most chill human I’ve ever encountered. Standing maybe 5ft tall, tanned like dark leather from a life of sun and sand, he tries and tries and tries some more to coax this horse back to its pen. It was like they were having an argument and the horse kept winning…..I broke silence and laughed, and laughed some more. The sight will stick with me not only for the hilarity but for the futility of it all.
Sitting in silence, in wet sand, in a line with strangers at such an ungodly hour is still (yes I know it’s only day 2) terribly uncomfortable. I’m like a child and can’t sit still, I see the ocean and just want to jump in!!!! But alas. I sit quietly and make lists in my head as per usual. When will this zen stuff kick in?!
To be continued….
