I just thought you should know that today, Jan 21st, the day after Trump's 2nd Inauguration, Turner Classic Movies did a whole 12-hour daytime bloc on anti-Nazi/anti-fascist films.
The Black Legion (1937)
Confessions of a Nazi Spy (1939)
The Mortal Storm (1939)
The Great Dictator (1941)
The Seventh Cross (1944)
The Edge of Darkness (1943)
Background to Danger (1943)
And I'd just like someone else to notice because I think these little acts of demonstrating memory and value are important. TCM didn't choose wars films in which Americans are heroically fighting and winning; they chose films ABOUT fascism & autocracy--its destructiveness, its immorality, its stupidity & conformity--and the difficulty and danger individuals face when trying to resist or confront it.
I noticed TCM was posting The Great Dictator clips on their instagram, but didn't realize their whole schedule was like this. Good on them. It's brave to call a spade a spade when the spade is absolutely desperate to be labeled a sword.
