Seniors Turkey Trot Results
An excellent set of conditions for a great day of golf today. No rain, relatively mild with next to no wind and a course in superb condition in spite of the recent rain. All this reflected in some very good scores being posted and did justice to our record turnout of 54. The results are as follows :-
1st place with 101 points : Dave Brownhill, Adrian Nash and Bevan Garrard
2nd place with 100 points : Rob Pinner, Derek Eastwood and Dennis Nock ( wish I hadn’t twisted his arm !! ).
3rd place with 95 points : Mike Wood, Roger Bartlett and Dave Hadley.
The above prizes will be presented at our Xmas Bash.
The 2’s fund of £27 was shared by 9 players each winning £3.
These are : Graham Butcher, Alan Hall, Mike Wood, David Harvey, Martin Matthews, Nick Webb, David Gerrard, Ian Dorrell and Bob Westwood. This money will be credited to your club accounts.
My thanks got to Bob Westwood as Starter for todays comp, and particularly, for letting us into 3rd place!!
Next weeks competition is the Xmas Bash, an 11 hole Texas Scramble played over Badgers and the 1st two of Deer, followed by our Xmas lunch which promises to be a good one !! Once again we have an excellent turnout of 56 players.
We will meet at 8.30 - 8.45am for a 9.30am shotgun start. Lunch is at 12.45pm.
Further details of teams and tees will follow.
Roger Bartlett.

Triple Dutch
Sunday 15th October might well go down in history as one of the best days ever here at CMGC. The Triple Dutch tournament organised by Henk Stheeman’s daughters Jessica, Natalie and Emilie; that saw 84 playing and 102 upstairs for the prize giving and lunch.
The weather could not have been much better with glorious sunshine throughout. The greenkeepers had also performed miracles getting the course such good condition for mid-October.
The reason for this event is that 20 years ago we had a young golf Professional Marcus Knight at CMGC who was offered a job in Switzerland. He then landed the Head Professional position at one of Switzerland’s most exclusive and elite Golf clubs, Golf & Country Club Schönenberg. While working at Schönenberg Marcus became great friends with long-standing member Henk Stheeman. Our own Sam Pain worked two summers in Switzerland with Marcus whilst doing his PGA training and also became good friends with Henk.
Marcus invited Henk over to CMGC and he immediately fell in love with our beautiful course and the friendly and relaxed manner in which CMGC is managed. Sadly in 2016 Henk passed away and during the Summer of 2016 Henk played his last ever game of golf, not at Schönenberg, but at CMGC!
The day was sponsored by the ladies in memory of their father Henk who came over from Switzerland to play CMGC on a regular basis. The family were extremely generous to the club’s members with breakfast, over £1000 worth of prizes, a half way bar, canapés and a 2 course lunch with 200 pints of Robinsons cider, which did not take long to get through! All sponsored by them. There was a nominal entry fee of £5, which went straight to the junior fund to help support them in 2018.
The competition was a Texas Scramble; some great teams were out their all vying for victory. There was also a very special flag position on the 6th of Badgers Sett with 5 flags there, yet that did not stop many from still hitting the water!
Now for the results, and it was very close. Jack Severn, Scott Severn, Harry King and Charlie Edwards won the lowest gross on count back. Favourites Ash Cook, Adam Cook, Matt Fairman and Lewis Hodges were third with a 57.1 nett, second was a team no one thought we be in the mix but they showed how good golf can be when the putts roll in, Graham Pain, James Pain, Christian Thomson and Sara Pain finished on 57 nett to get second place just missing out on winning on count back.
The winners with a better back 6 holes on Foxes Run were Bryan Colley, Dave Gordon, Ian Davies and Dave Smith.
The ladies and their families enjoyed the day so much they surprised us all by saying they will be coming back in 2018 and 2019 to do the event again and making it a true Triple Dutch trilogy. Thank you to all for making the day so great, and for Marcus and Sam for flying over to play in it.
The lovely presentation speech starting with Graham, then Jessica and finally Dave and Amy doing the prize giving.

March/April news
Seniors news March – April
March and April saw some of the wettest conditions that the Seniors have encountered in recent years. This has led to some cancellations, including our friendly match against Bewdley Pines. We have however soldiered on relentlessly cleaning our shoes, clubs and trollies to return for more.
March saw the commencement of our friendly match season. To date we have won 3 and lost 2. We started poorly but recovered winning our last three matches.
Our first AM AM Open, on April 26th ,was again well supported with tee times running from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. We seemed to have 4 seasons in one day, including a heavy snowstorm in the afternoon. All persevered and the eventual winners were a team from Swindon G C with a score of 77pts, Cleobury’s team of Yoshi Oyama, Bob Lucas, Rick Clayton and Andrew Thomas came a creditable second with 76 pts. Paul Tierney won nearest the pin on Foxes 8. The full results can be seen on the club blog.
The Seniors vs Ladies match at the end of April, always a well supported event, was played under some windy conditions and the Ladies were eventual worthy winners 5 ½ to 2 ½. A further mixed competition based on the Ryder cup is on Friday September 30th.
Sadly at the end of April we lost one of our former Senior Captains, Pete Munslow. He was a gentleman and good friend to all at CMGC and he will be sadly missed.
Forthcoming events in May include our second medal competition, the start of our Summer league competition and the annual Senior’s tour, which this year is in Derbyshire.
Maurice Clarke (Seniors Captain)
