Blown Away || Arena Day 3
I woke up to a terrible reality. The beautiful serenity of the Arena yesterday was gone. It was replaced by a fucking tornado.
The wind was blowing fast and swirling around me and my cart. Just over the top of the tree I could see the swirling column of wind bearing down near my camp.
Shit. I was not fond of tornadoes. They kind of scare the shit out of me. But I wasn't going to let that show, especially with the whole country watching.
With as much speed as I could muster I leap from my bed and hastily pack it away in my backpack again. It sticks out a bit, but it didn't matter too much, I just had to get away.
I jumped in the front seat of the golf cart and tried to start the engine. It sputtered and died. No, not here! I turned the key again and tried to urge it to go. No luck. I hit my hands on the wheels.
I looked back behind me and saw the tornado wreaking havoc north of me. Calm down, Clif. It's not here yet. I took a deep breath and tried the key again. I willed the engine to start. There was a large grinding sound, but it fell away to the sweet sound of a working engine. I let out a sigh and smiled a little.
Phew, that was close. I stepped on the accelerator and headed southwest. As I was riding I saw a couple of tributes in the trees. This was getting better. This was what I wanted. I turned the cart towards them and raced to the upcoming fight.

So now I had two cute little groundhogs to cook. The day was winding down and I thought it would be nice to hunker down somewhere. To the west there was a grove of trees separating the fairways. I grabbed my meal by the tails and plopped them on to the front seat of the golf cart.
I carted myself and my kills over to the thicket of trees. This was the part of the Games I always had trouble with. I had never really gutted an animal before, but that shouldn't be too difficult. Take off the skin and the guts right?
I pulled out the machete and started skinning the groundhog. I started from the tail and skinned it up towards the face. It was hard at first, but I started to get used to it until I accidentally hit a vein. Blood spurted onto my beautiful white tshirt. I rolled my eyes at my incompetence. I let it bleed out and finished off the first groundhog.
It looked like crap but I hope it wouldn't taste like crap. I quickly did the same thing to the next groundhog, only nicking my thumb in the process. I placed them both on the ground with the pelts protecting them from the dirt.
With the meat separated from the fur I decided to gut them. That was a shit show. By the end of the process, both groundhogs were shredded into pieces. Fuck.
At least I wasn't on my last legs with. I still had some food in my backpack and didn't need a fire. I settled in with the mattress blown up between a tree and the golf cart. I wrapped myself up in the blanket and watched the sky for the upcoming dead.

I didn't notice the other groundhog sticking around until it had its jaw clamped around my ankle. "Shit!"
I pried it off my ankle with my sword and lopped off its head. That one at least deserved it. I leaned downward and examined the bite.It wasn't terrible, but I figured I should at least cover it up. I ripped off some of my sleeve and wrapped the fabric around the bite. There wasn't really anything else I could do about it.

I stiffened when I saw something emerge from the dirt. My hand instinctively tightened around the hilt of my sword. When the little head popped up I relaxed. It's just a cute little groundhog. It disappeared quickly and I leaned backward onto the cart.
Before I could even think of doing anything else, the little guy returned with a buddy. They crept closer than before and I got a little bit anxious. Were these guys mutts disguised as cutie pies or were they actual cutie pies? I picked up the backpack and swung it over my shoulder so they couldn't eat my precious food.
I didn't want to kill them both but there were so many possibilities. It was their survival or mine. I decided to off one of them, hopefully scaring the other one off. Plus, I would have meat for tonight.
The groundhogs scampered about, trying to find food, but still sticking close to me and my cart. I crept up behind it, placing my feet gently on the ground so they wouldn't attack me or notice me. When I got close enough I brought my sword down through the stomach of the groundhog. Despite its cuteness, it looked like a tasty dinner.

Cruisin' || Arena Day 2
Those birds were pretty vicious, but I got away without a scratch. Some part of me just wanted to tear them apart, but it might be the lack of action I have been getting. I've only encountered one tribute and that was over pretty quickly.
I was getting antsy, especially not knowing exactly what was happening in other parts of the arena. I emitted a low sigh and continued to drive the golf cart.
It was definitely fun riding along in the golf cart. I felt like I could do anything. I wasn't going super fast, but I was well on my way to...wherever I wanted to end up I guess.
The sky was clear and it was a beautiful day. If I wasn't on the lookout for anything suspicious, I might actually be enjoying myself. If I was back in One that would be great. Flint and I would have taken this thing out for a joyride. Hopefully picked up a couple of the other guys and invited some girls to have a friendly game of volleyball or something stupid like that.
As much as I wanted to win, I was more excited to go home. Actually more like I was excited to go home and get praise for the crown I would be bringing there. Life would get better and more fun.
I turned the cart south and emerged on to a large fairway. There was a flag near where I exited the little patch of trees that I crossed. It read '15'. I guess I was on hole 15. I stopped the cart just shy of a sand trap and jumped out.
I stretched my body and limbered up. I ate another fruit cup and drank a bit more of my pineapple juice. I was ready for some action, but I was also sort of hoping that everybody would kill each other for me.

Caw Caw || Arena Day 2
The void of sleep was interrupted too early for my liking. A massive sound was erupting from overhead. I immediately sat up and ripped the blanket off of me. Above me a hoard of seagulls had surrounded my position. A few decided to dive bomb my beautiful backpack.
My shield was still strapped to my arm, so grabbing my sword I ran over to shoo them away. I banged a few with my shield and swung my sword high and mighty above my head. I emitted a scream - almost a roar - to try and get them to scatter.
With them frightened, for at least a moment, I scooped up my pack and retreated to my golf cart. I quickly packed up my blanket and mattress, stuffing them in my backpack.
I glanced back and saw them regaining their courage. Not wanting to encounter a possible pack of mutts, I turned on the engine of the golf cart and sped away, heading southwest.

Sleep The Pain Away || Arena Day 1 OS
I slumped in the seat of the golf cart. My head felt dizzy and everything was out of place. I rested my head in my hands and breathed in and out. That boy must have knocked me hard in the head. My eyes slipped shut and the darkness was soothing to my aching head. I rest my head for a moment, realizing I have earned this little nap session.
The realization of what I had just done hit me hard and it was all I could do but to leap up in the air in celebration. I had used my training well. Hopefully my parents had been watching - who am I kidding, everyone would have seen it.
I was proud of myself, but I couldn't look at the place where Adagio's body had lain. Since my fight with him, the hovercraft had swooped in and taken him away. Despite all the training it was still a little weird to take away someone's life.
But enough with that talk, I have to get going. My collected items laid on the seat beside me and I took a mental inventory of what I had. The weapons I had acquired included Adagio's machete and a pack of shurikens. I examined each shuriken, relishing the new weapon. We didn't really dwell on these in training, but they seemed as easy to throw as knives.
I had also gotten a shield. Man, was that ever lucky. I would be even more unstoppable with this bad boy along for the ride. I grinned from ear to ear. This was perfect.
The real treasure trove laid in the backpack that was left behind. I unzipped the top and quickly pulled out my haul. There was a few pieces of food that I set off to the side. I would pick at it when I had chosen my place to stay tonight.
The fun stuff was next. I produced a grappling hook from the backpack. I grinned at my discovery. That would be so useful in the future. A blanket and mattress came out next, thankfully I would have a good sleep tonight. Next, I picked out a tube of anitbiotic ointment which would be great for my shallow cut on my leg. Better to be safe then sorry.
I unscrewed the tube and squeezed out a little onto my finger. I rubbed it on the shallow cut on my thigh. It stunk a bit, but otherwise it was fine. I ripped a piece of my uniform off of my sleeve and wrapped it around my thigh. It was only a shallow cut, but I think that wrapping it up would be more than a enough.
I placed the tube of cream on my pile of growing supplies. This was a good start to the Games, I must say. I had supplies, weapons, a shield, a kill under my belt and a golf cart.
I shoved my supplies back into the backpack. I stuck the machete out of the top of the backpack, so it was ready for me to grab if I was swordless. I put the shurikens in my pockets for quick access and laid the sword on the seat beside me. Finally I strapped the shield on my left arm. I was ready for anything.
The afternoon had fell away to evening and I had to start thinking of finding somewhere to hole up for the night. North of me was a stretch of water. I decided to head that way because then I would have something that prevented tributes from sneaking up on me from behind.
I started the engine of the golf cart. I was almost giddy with excitement; like a 10 year old at Christmas time. It roared to life and I sped off towards the body of water. I stopped just shy of 10 metres from the water.
There weren't any trees for cover, but this was as good as it was going to get. I cut the engine of the cart and slid out. The sun was setting and I needed to set up camp quick. I took out the mattress and blew it up. It took a while, but I was at least getting a good night's rest tonight. My head was still pounding, but as far as I could tell it wasn't going to make me dead just yet.
I moved the mattress to the side of the cart that faced the water. It would at least make me invisible to those staring at it. I could surprise anybody that comes snooping near my new cart.
I settled down onto my mattress and pulled out the pineapple juice and a fruit cup. I gulped down a quarter of the juice and finished off the fruit cup really fast. The blanket was soft and I wrapped myself up in it. I stayed up to watch the Fallen and slowly drifted to sleep.

Interview: Clifton Winters, District 1
Ferris: Alright, its your lucky day everyone, because this is your chance to get to know our tributes just a little better before they head into the arena!
Finn: It's quite exciting, absolutely. I am stoked! Let's begin, I can't wait any longer.
Ferris: First up is the extremely handsome Clifton Winters of District 1! Let's hear it for him! *crowd cheers*
Clif: *struts out confidently, waving to the crowd a bit before holding his hand out to Ferris and Finn* Hello gentlemen. It’s great to finally get to sit in this chair. It’s been a dream of mine.
Finn: A dream you say? Well, well, get comfortable, Clif!
Ferris: I take it part of that dream would be a second appearance on this stage with a crown on your head. Are you feeling confident to make that dream come true, Clif?
Clif: *laughs* I would definitely enjoy a crown on my head, Ferris. I feel especially confident after training. There are a few competitors, but that's what makes it satisfying when I win.
Finn: That's a good way of looking at it. If you want to be the best that means beating the best, right?
Ferris: Who do you consider your biggest competition?
Clif: From scores alone, I would definitely say Delilah from District 4. I met her and while she didn't seem overly bloodthirsty, looks can be deceiving. But really, anybody could step it up a notch.
Finn: Yes, we're all a little intimidated by Delilah.
Ferris: *chuckles and nods*
Finn: But good assessment, you never know who could come up and bite you! *chuckles*
Ferris: Speaking of scores, how do you feel about that 9 you earned? Do you feel as though it was on target or did you expect something higher?
Clif: *sighs* I was definitely hoping for something higher. I thought I worked pretty hard during my session. But it's not the end of the world, scores aren't what will save you in the Arena. *smiles*
Finn: That's absolutely true. So tell us, then, what does?
Ferris: Do you have a good strategy for tomorrow? An alliance perhaps?
Clif: What saves you? I guess the main thing, for me at least, is following my instincts. And having a great weapon too. *Clif pauses before answering Ferris' question* My main strategy is to win. As long as I keep that in mind, nothing will stop me. Now, Ferris, I can't tell you that. That would ruin my plans.
Ferris: Alright, fair enough, you keep your secrets sir! *chuckles*
Finn: We'll be patient and wait to see what you can do. In the mean time, let's talk about motivation.
Ferris: Are you fighting for yourself, or do you have family that you'll be fighting for as well? Any lucky lady waiting for you at home?
Clif: This is for myself and my family. I want to show them what I can do, why they should pay attention for me. I want to be able to be proud of what I can do. Winning this is what I have dreamed of for years, I will be very happy when that happens. *raises eyebrow* There are many ladies that have been lucky to be around me, but none at the moment that are my lucky lady. I used to have this wonderful girl, but it didn't work out to well. Flying solo for now.
Finn: *purses lips* Well it seems a shame if your family isn't paying attention to you, but this would surely get the job done!
Ferris: As for the ladies, you'll have more than your fair of interested ones if you bring that crown home! Won't he ladies? *crowd cheers, ladies catcall*
Finn: Or maybe you can make it work with that one special lady you just spoke of. She'd be a fool not to give you a second chance!
Ferris: Speaking of special ladies... your District Partner surely is one. How has dealing with her been for you?
Clif: She definitely is a handful, but nothing I can't handle. There have been rumours floating around about how crazy she actually is.If they are true I will be a little bit shocked. So hopefully it's not.
Finn: Well I am sure we will find out when we meet her next!
Ferris: *chuckles* Meat. *shakes head*
Finn: Well Clif, it's been an absolute pleasure to meet you.
Ferris: *chuckles* Meat.
Finn: *glares at Ferris* We wish you all the best! Let's give Clif a round of applause! *crowd cheers*
Clif: Thank you for being such great hosts! *bows to Finn and Ferris* And thank you for being such a great audience. *bows to the audience and blows a kiss or two to them*
