take this to your grave is boy slop because it's written by a teenage boy and a mentally ill adult man. tell that mick is misogynistic, violent, and the first of many instances of pete wentz villainizing the women he's hurt while pros and cons is him playing the victim in the most self deprecating way. the rest of the album is just patrick's teenage ramblings about being in a band. it's not bad. take this to your grave (and folie) flip flop as my favorite albums. but compared to even corktree, it's just sloppy boy musing.

some fob "hot" takes because i don't really like them at this point.

1.) i think save rock and roll is a boring album that shouldn't have been made. pete wentz was a pussy who was scared of flopping again and therefore srar has some of the most lazy, nothing lyrics fob have ever put out. even ab/ap has more emotional, personal songs then srar. miss missing you barely counts as a pete song.

2.) i think mania and smfs solo all their other albums lyrically and thematically. tttyg is boy slop, fuct is the abuse record, ioh was pretend woke, and folie is peterick's vent album. srar and ab/ap were cash grabs meant to solidify fob in music again. mania, even with the ironic and misogynistic cut dig at britney spears, has some of the most deep cutting lyrics for me while smfs is in a league of it's own.

3.) i think there have been numerous times in fob's history where pete should have been forced into a psychiatric hold instead of being allowed to keep going. obviously nobody can police a grown man, but somebody should have. i genuinely believe he was more unwell then anybody wanted to admit. not that this makes him better, nor do i think he was ever fully out of his mind, but i think a lot of things could be avoided if he got real and serious help.

4.) i am not surprised that fob don't have the same cultural relevance as mcr and paramore at this time in history, fob's shitty history aside. the black parade is the black parade, and mcr is synonymous with "emo" in pop culture. paramore are highly respected by fans and critics and other artists alike, have had the most critical accolades, and hayley williams is actually doing something for the greater good. she is the real fucking deal. fob may be making their best music yet (imo), but they do not have the respect nor the cultural impact (or morals) outside of their niche to really thrive.

5.) pete wentz's queerness (or lack there of) is not something i think fans should be clinging too. he is not representation, and even if he was, it's shitty representation. i don't believe in petekey, nor do i believe in peterick, nor do i believe pete has ever had any kind of substantial attraction to men outside of what they could do for him financially. even if he is bi, or whatever other sexuality people throw onto him, he's never come out and he never will. it also seems as though people use his "queerness" to brush aside his behaviors. i would rather believe he wrote about the teenage girl he'd been dating for years then some man he was associated with, friction in his jeans be damned.

6.) fall out boy, but especially pete, seem to toe this line between being political enough to seem like they care while also being palatable enough not to rock any boats. not necessarily a hot take, but it's an example of pete's business model that interests me. to me, early fob clearly were catering to their female audience, as so often told by pete and joe. the fact they wanted girls to listen is a little uncomfortable. but anyway, they pushed that agenda by being apart of social issues related to this audience (the pro-abortion ad, the no h8 campaign pete did, the "keep a breast" ad, the climate change video, etc...) all of these things would cater to those girls who were, fairly often in the early 2000s, ridiculed for believing and campaigning about these things. but once that audience kind of fell off, aka the eras of light 'em up and centuries, a male audience didn't need that kind of catering. to be fair, i know about the whole 2020 twitter stuff that happened with pete, but i don't think it's a good enough excuse for him to give up any kind of political posting.

7.) the monetization of tragedy in pete's life is uncomfortable. while i don't think he's evil (controversial, i'm aware), i find it hard to sympathize with a majority of the things he's experienced post fob fame. even the nudes scandal, which clearly effected him greatly, was received with way less vitriol then it could have been if he wasn't pete wentz. the fact he was able to spin it, to use it as a draw for their new album, for promotion for the hush sound, and on a fucking clandestine t-shirt in insane. people talk about those photos like it was just a funny thing that happened one day. while i don't give a shit how pete feels at this point, this was the best case senerio. also one of those moments where instead of giving us "my peen is more famous than me", he should have been in a mental health facility.

i don't hate fob, but i am indifferent towards the members. i will always love their music, and they are 100% my favorite band, but i've stopped caring about them past that. i'm logged off this account most of the day simply because i don't care enough to engage with a majority of the discourse anymore lol. but no, i don't hate fob.

opinions of the ybc

i like it! save rock and roll is my least fav album, but ybc has some of my favorite mv's fob has ever done. specifically young volcanos, it's my #2 right behind gta. the story hardly makes sense but getting the artist who featured on the album to come shoot with them is really cool. but i personally don't understand the people in the fandom who, like, drool over it.
