Back to Square One [One-off]
Today was Ryn's Birthday, and Clovis, still grounded, had few ideas as to what to get Ryn, and how to go about doing it.
They...they were dating now, right?  That hadn't changed in the long time they hadn't seen each other....right??  He was very worried, and highly frustrated at his parents.  He just had a broken arm, it was no big deal....or, at least, that was what he told himself.
Presents though, shit.  He didn't really have the ability to leave the house at the moment, and he still dared not to leave his room.  Maybe Leo would do him a favor...if the scientist wasn't busy swatting away weak testers, or actually studying things.  He'd ask Ka, but considering the Lucario tackled and aura sphere'd him upon sight, he didn't think Ka would do it willingly.  ...He couldn't depend on his Pokemon, not just yet......not after he'd abandoned them like that.  God, he'd severed a lot of bridges in his distress....he had no idea how many he'd have to rebuild.
He buried his face in his pillow, frustrated with his current confinement to his room.  His only consolation was that his arm would be freed of its sling and cast soon, which was when his house arrest would end.  .....Cripes, now that he thought about it, December was going to be harsh on him from here on out.  Christmas and two very important birthdays, all packed into one month.  Yeesh.
Shit.  Worst of all, he needed this present today, because he'd forgotten Ryn's birthday.  God, he was such trash.  He had to wonder if Xavier was having better luck than he was.....
...Jeez, how old was Ryn again?  19??  ....Cripes, Clovis was the oldest out of the three of them, with the third party in question being Xavier.  Might be best not to think about that.  He touched his fingers to his empty wrist - a habit he still wasn't able to kick.  He wondered....a jacket, perhaps?  Mmh...something told him Ryn cared little about fashion, if the baggy tees and pants were any indication.  A heated blanket came to mind, but then he quickly remembered that was a thing Xave wanted - the Orrean was awfully intolerant of cold.
Evolution stones were a no-go, plushies were childish and Ryn had plenty of real Pokemon to cuddle, a new holocaster was too expensive and a bit much for the short time they would have been dating, jewelry was.....no, not yet.  Jewelry was reserved for when he wanted to remember someone, and for them to remember him.
Games would have been good, if he knew what Ryn's game library consisted of, or even what the new releases were.  Books were iffy, he didn't know what series Ryn was currently reading, if at all.  Food wasn't a good present either, not for super important people, anyway.  It was all no good, his ideas were worthless, ugh!
...What if he just.  Waited until he was all better and just went out and did something with Ryn no that was stupid he needed this TODAY.  His mind flashed far back, to when he found Ryn injured in the alley...specifically, to the fact that Ryn actually carried his Pokeballs in his bag.  Perhaps....something to keep his Pokeballs on, then...?  Clovis himself had a chain he hooked to his belt loop and attached to his wallet, which also had the ability to hold Pokeballs like charms.  Maybe Ryn would like something like that.
Yeah...okay.  So...he just had to procure one now fucking shit how the hell was he supposed to do that--
"You know, I am capable of going out and doing things for you, even if you're restricted to the house."
Clovis quickly pushed himself up and looked behind him, over at the door to his room.  "Ka....."
"His birthday is today.  It's in your calendar," the Lucario muttered, lowering his paws to reveal Clovis' holocaster - a device that had been taken away from the boy by his parents, as punishment.
"A-are you....offering?" Clovis asked, slightly bewildered.
"No, of course not," Ka replied flatly.  "Of course I am, why else would I mention it?  You're distressed, Ryn's birthday is today, you obviously didn't get him a present so I'm offering to go get whatever it is you need to give him."
"...Why?"
"What do you mean, 'why'?"
"W-well, I thought you were....angry."
"I am."
"....So then....?"
"You're still my trainer.  Our trainer.  You've been gone a while, but we still care.  Because going through a region and getting stronger together does that."
Clovis swallowed a hot lump in his throat, guilt eating his chest.  "I'm.....so sorry....." he murmured, sitting up and staring at the floor.
Ka let out a soft sigh, and walked closer to his trainer, head held as high as ever.  "...We know.  ...Just spend some time with us, and everything will be fine.  You will feel like you're not stepping on dried leaves soon enough."
"...Isn't the saying either glass or eggshells...?" Clovis smiled wryly.
"That sounds stupid," Ka replied without hesitation.  "Glass is harmful, and that is not our intent.  And eggs are sturdy."
Clovis let out a hesitant chuckle.  "Of course....you're right."
"Yes, I am," Ka nodded.  "Now.  What do you wish to give to Ryn, and I will accept payment in the form of food."

'If you wish,' she said…well then, Clovis would just have to get her all sorts of Pocky.  What sort of stuff was there?  Oh, he'd just have to see when he saw her again….
[ Okay...I can do that!  He a relative or something? ]
He didn't mean it to be prying, he was just curious.  If she didn't want to tell, he....well, he would question, but not to her face.
He laughed a bit at her last comment, completely unaware that Usagi, of all people, had just made a joke.  She was so serious, how was he to know it was a jest?  As such, he took it seriously, and decided that he would humor the request.
[ Hahaha, oh man that reminds me, I saw some keychains that looked like pastries.  It was a little bizarre, I didn't realize they /weren't/ actual donuts at first.  Maybe I'll get you one of those. ]
He probably wouldn't, in all honesty.  Usagi was nice, and he had to admit he was oddly fond of her, but....candy and a registry search were quite enough. ...Maybe for Christmas, or something.
« Does this user ID still belong to Clovis Chevalier? »
[ Yes, it does.  …..Usagi, is that you…? ]

The Answer pt.2 [One-off]
The Elite 4.  The penultimate challenge before the Champion...and the penultimate challenge for Clovis, period.  He swallowed as he walked forward, feeling Ryn's and Xavier's stares on his back.  This...this was what he'd been working towards for what felt like eons.
It was time to go.
He walked forwards.  Marshal, the fighting-type specialist, was the one he greeted first.  He was, ironically, the easiest of the bunch, going down quickly enough thanks to Mada, whom had learned Psychic via TM, and Sky High.
Next was Shauntal, the ghost writer.  Well...not actually a ghost writer, she put her name on the books she wrote.  ....Aaaanyway, she went down quickly enough, too...though not without significantly hurting Mada in the process.
Grimsley, was after her, and his Pokemon's faces met Patronus' hooves many times.  As soon as the Sawsbuck seemed to be in real danger, Clovis recalled him, letting Sky High get the finishing hit.
Finally....Caitlin.  As Clovis climbed the starry stairs up to where she was, he realized how hard his heart was pounding in his chest, that his hands were trembling, and how difficult it was not to think.  No, he couldn't think about that right now, not yet.  Not here.  He'd come here because he wanted to rely on instinct...not push it away.
One harsh battle later, and he had access to the Champion.
As he climbed those stairs, finding the walk to be long and tiring, he briefly wondered: what were Xavier and Ryn doing at the moment?  Watching him, no doubt...but what else?  Holding hands, probably.  Nervously hoping that he would win.  Waiting.  Just....waiting.
He worried.  What if he lost?  What if he won?  What would he do when he left, in either case?  Was he even worthy of them?  They'd said he was, but....well....it was hard for him to believe in himself.  How could he....
No.  He should be able to believe him.  After all....he'd never loved himself.  But he'd loved them so much.....he forgot what hating himself had felt like, if only briefly.
He wanted that.  Did he want that?  Did he deserve that?  He looked up, his thoughts snapping from those and onto the starry sky before him.  The golden dragon statue.  The planets.  The pillars.  The throne.
Iris.
She smiled.  "Welcome, challenger!  I've been waiting for this!"
She stood up as soon as he was close enough, nearly drowning in her oversized dress.  "Know what?" she grinned, "I really look forward to having serious battles with strong Trainers!"
Seeing the surprised and relatively blank look on Clovis' face, she continued.  "I mean, come on! The Trainers who make it here 're Trainers who desire victory with every fiber of their being! And they're battling alongside Pokémon that have been through countless difficult battles!  If I battle with people like that, not only will I get stronger, but my Pokémon will, too!"
No...the look she had mistaken from blankness was reflection.  Clovis....felt her words to be familiar, and he knew exactly why.  That outlook on battling, that was him.  Or rather...what he used to want it to be.  Optimistic, with the intent of self-betterment, not necessarily victory.
He pulled himself back into reality.  No.  That was still him, just....infinitely more optimistic, and a touch more naive.  The circuit.  That was why he' joined.  To face strong trainers, so they could better themselves by fighting each other.  And that....that was what he was going to do right now.
"OK!" Iris shouted, "Brace yourself! I'm Iris, the Pokemon League Champion, and I'm going to defeat you!"
"I'm Clovis..." he started, then stopped.  No...that wouldn't do.
"I'm Clovis, Pokemon League Challenger, and I'm going to win!"
The first Pokemon Iris sent out was a Hydregion, and upon seeing it, chills were sent down Clovis' spine.  He shuddered.....and reminded himself that this wasn't Juntos, that it wouldn't attack him.  And....if it did, Iris would probably wrestle it to the ground.  That was a rather amusing thought.
"Alright Pyrrhos...this time....this time."  He let out the Arcanine in a burst of light, and before the command he issued was even completed - Outrage - Pyrrhos was already charging towards the Hyreigon, angry purple energy spilling from his mouth.  He latched onto the main head's neck, jets of water piercing his fur in retaliation.  In the end, Pyrrhos was the winner...but was not unharmed.
Clovis quickly recalled him, waiting for Iris to release her Salamence before he let Vahan onto the battlefield.  "Ice Beam!" he shouted, and the Samurott obeyed, shooting an icy blast at the now-airborne Salamence.  It was only after the dragon-type had launched a fiery rock at him did he manage to freeze his wing, in exchange for getting hit by said meteor.  "Again!" Clovis ordered, and he started to obey, interrupted by the Salamence's sudden close proximity and fangs.
"Vahan!" Clovis shouted worriedly, but the Samurott struggled, eventually able to wrestle the Salamence away and hit in the face with ice.  With one last hit, the Salamence was down, and Clovis briefly celebrated....only to have that crushed by a surprise Thunder from Iris' Lapras.
After a moment of surprise, he recalled Vahan, going through a mental checklist of-- got it.  He clutched Dipaka's Pokeball, and sent the little Flaaffy out to take care of the threat.
He heard Iris guffaw....something about Dipaka not being fully evolved.  He knew; it annoyed him a little, too...but in the end, he wasn't going to force his Pokemon to evolve.
No....they'd just have to prove everyone wrong.
"Thunderbolt," he growled.  Dipaka gathered static electricity from his wool, pulling it into the orb on his tail and unleashing it with a haughty 'Flaa~'.  It screamed through the Lapras, which was too slow on land to even think of evading it, but Clovis knew that if Dipaka was an Ampharos.....that Lapras would be near incapacitated now.  As it was, it looked hurt....but still full of fight.
A beautiful song began to fill the air, filling everyone's ears...but mostly Dipaka's.  Sleepy time was soon, and Clovis knew it.  "Volt Switch...!"  He needed to get Dipaka out of there, and fast.  But when he looked at the small pink Flaafy, he saw defiance incarnate.  Dipaka didn't want to out, let alone lose, and a glow began to envelop him, energy filling his body.
Evolution.
With a cry, the Flaafy grew in size, losing his wool and changing color.  Before the shine even faded away, electricity began to fill the air, gathering around the now-Ampharos until he was within a large ball of electricity.  It dashed towards the Lapras, striking the water type and disappearing, finally revealing Dipaka's new form.  The electric type then retreated as ordered, going back into his Pokeball without hesitation.
Clovis was speechless.  After all that persuasion, it taken a battle with the Champion for Dipaka to evolve.
Dipaka hadn't wanted to lose.....and neither did he.  Embers in Clovis' heart ignited, even if only creating a small flame.  No, he was going to do this.  Dipaka wanted to win...and so did he.
Next was an Archeops, and Clovis sent out Sky High, with the intent of using U-turn to switch back to Dipaka.
His plans were almost cut short.  The Archeops was fast - almost absurdly so - and struck Sky High with a barrage of rocks before the bird could get in a hit.  Sky High gladly went back to Clovis, who cringed.  That had looked awful....good thing Dipaka wasn't weak to rocks.
That was his mistake.  It was after Dipaka was on the field did Clovis notice the gem in the Archeop's claws, and he realized what was happening.  He didn't even need to hear the command - Acrobatics - to know what was going to happen.
Poor Dipaka's debut was cut short, and Clovis was forced to recall him, too, the Ampharos now fainted.  Acrobatics and a Flying Gem.....hah.  No, of course the Champion was smart like that.  Well, fine, Clovis could play it strategically, too.
He sent out Mada, who had no weaknesses nor advantages towards the Rock/Flying type.  What he did have, though, was a status move and a ghost move that was highly effective with it.
"Will-o-wisp," Clovis commanded, and the ghost, still weary from his battle with Sauntal, opened his lid to release various small balls of fire.  They were intensely hot, and when one managed to graze the dinosaur, the Archeops screeched in pain, the burn afflicting its ability to fly.
"Now Hex...!"
"No!!  Acrobatics again!!"
The Archeops shakily gained height as Mada began to wave his arms about, creating cryptic symbols in the air.  Just as his eyes began to glow, nearly completing the attack, the Archeops dived, tucking in its wings, desperate to attack first.  Both Pokemon had to go just a little faster, attack a little sooner, get there first.....
Clovis held his breath, watching the Cofagrigus and Archeops when they paused after the strike.  To his dismay, Mada was the first to faint, his ghostly aura fading as he fell towards the ground...
No, both Pokemon hit the ground at the same time, the Archeop's burn getting to it and causing it so much pain that it fainted.
Well then.
Both he and Iris, shocked, recalled their Pokemon.  "Good job, Mada," he murmured to the ghost's Pokeball.  "Thank you....."
That was 4 down, and 2 to go.  He....only had 3 Pokemon left.
He could do this.
He sent out Sky High, as a scout, to see what sort of Pokemon Iris sent out ne-- motherfucker.  An Aggron.
He felt a wave of nostalgia hit him.  His steel team, back in Kalos......oh gods, Ka.  No, he had to concentrate.  "U-turn!" he shouted.
"Head Smash!" he heard Iris yell....much to his dismay.
As he expected, the Aggron was well-trained - what it lacked in speed, it more than made up for in strength and skill.  Sky High dove for the attack, and the Aggron, with a well-aimed headbutt, knocked Sky High right back into the sky, and onto the ground.
Well then.
Clovis swallowed, and recalled the poor bird.  Luckily for him, he still knew what his steel team's weaknesses were, and he knew exactly how to take out this Aggron.
"You're up, Patronus!"  The Sawsbuck appeared in a flash of light, immediately spotting his enemy and digging a hoof into the ground.  With the desired phrase from Clovis, he charged, building up speed and changing it into strength as he sent his hooves into the metallic Pokemon's armor.  The Aggron slammed its body into him in response and he was sent careening a little ways, but he shook it off like a champ.  He did the attack once more, gaining distance and closing it as quickly as possible, digging his front hooves into the ground so he could turn and kick with all his might.
"One more time!" Clovis shouted.  It wasn't as effective an attack as he had hoped, but Aggrons were notoriously bulky to physical attacks.  He didn't want to send out Pyrrhos just yet if he could help it, either....something told him he knew what sort of type Iris' last Pokemon would be.
It all happened in an instant.  Hooves met steel, and steel met deer, the result of a Jump Kick not quite finishing the job, but a Double-Edge doing just that.
As Clovis recalled Patronus, he realized: this was it.  They were down to their last Pokemon.  He was going to win, or he was going to lose.....and that would ultimately decide things.  Not just if he was going to be in the Hall of Fame, but so much more.
He wanted to win...but did he really?  He reached for Pyrrhos' Pokeball, breathing heavy and trying not to let thoughts get in the way of battling.  He was going to do this.  He had to do this.
It was time.
Pyrrhos, versus a Haxorus.  Clovis knew the last one was going to be a Dragon.  "Outrage," he commanded without hesitation, and the weakened Arcanine was off.
He immediately went for the jugular...or very near it, so to speak, his jaws crushing the Haxorus' neck and sending purple energy into it.  Clovis' heart pounded painfully, and he was disappointed to see that the Haxorus was more resilient that he gave it credit for.  He leaned forwards, fists clenching in fear as--
"Dodge!" he shouted, willing Pyrrhos to move out of the way as the Haxorus stomped the ground.  Clovis' breath froze in his throat, his gut twisted up, and his eyes went wide as he realized what the move was, and what it meant for Pyrrhos.
"No!!  Shit, no!!!" he screamed, jerking his head over to look at the Arcanine, sure enough, the fire-type was nearly flat on the ground, severely weakened, and looking as if he were about the faint.  As the shaking subsided, Clovis' heart dropped, fully expecting the match to be called.
But it wasn't.  Pyrrhos slowly stood up, shakily, with draconic energy still leaking from his mouth.  "P-Pyrrhos!" Clovis shouted, voice filled with worry.  This was it, now.  This was the end.  Looking at the Haxorus, it was weakened.  Whoever struck first, this time, would be the winner.
Dear god, Clovis wanted to win.
"Go, go go go!" he shouted desperately, his whole body urging Pyrrhos to move.  He could only watch as the fire type got to all fours, he could only clench his fist as Pyrrhos ran forward.  He shut his eyes and hunched forward, screaming at the top of his lungs for Pyrrhos to go, his heart, soul, and mind all wishing for victory.
He felt a rush of air go past him, and his eyes snapped open, the thud of a body against a wall reaching his ears a moment later.
The Haxorus, severely injured but very much standing, stood tall in front of him.
He'd lost.
Clovis could only stare, shock taking his system.  As the loss finally started to sink in, his knees gave out, and he sunk to the floor.
He'd........lost.
Iris' encouragement fell on deaf ears.  He'd....lost?  No way.....there was no way.  There was no way he'd....lost.  That wasn't......he hadn't.....
When Iris was bent over him, worried that she'd hurt his feelings, he shot up like a rocket, recalling Pyrrhos and running down the stairs.
No.
He ran all the way to the Pokecenter, ignoring Ryn and Xavier when they began to fret over him.  Fist tightening on the counter, he stared ahead, not hearing Ryn and Xavier pleading him to tell him: what would happen now?
"Clovis!!"
He was finally whirled around by Ryn, of all people, and he looked at them with the same resolution that had been sparked in his eyes since he'd started moving again.  "What?"
"What are you doing!?" Ryn squeaked, arms held close to his body.
"Wh-what's gonna happen now...?" Xavier nearly whined, almost shaking.  "Y-you.....you lost......."
"D-does that mean....?" Ryn trailed off, looking very small at the moment, despite his height.
"....I haven't lost," Clovis scowled.
"....B-but--"
"I would have won.  You probably saw how close the match was," Clovis frowned, brows thoroughly furrowed.  "No, I totally would've won, if that Aggron hadn't headbutted Sky High like that, or...something!  I was close!  I was going to beat her smarmy ass, and I was going to be the Champion of another region!  No, I haven't lost, okay!?"
"I-I don't--"
"As for what I'm doing, I'm going to go back in there and challenge her again, obviously," Clovis interrupted.  "And I'm going to win."
"A-and if you don't, Clov....?"
Clovis let out a deep breath through his nose.  It wasn't a sigh, but a release of angry energy.  "Then I'll challenge her again.  And again.  And again, until I do win."
He turned back around, leaning on the counter once more.  "Get it?" he muttered.
There was a moment of silence, then he felt hands on his shoulders, and he swiveled his head to look behind him.  There was the feeling of lips on his cheek, and he was surprised, looking to see Xavier smiling gently at him with tears in his eyes.
"Got it," Xavier chuckled.
Clovis turned around, back straightening somewhat as he looked towards Ryn.  The blue-haired boy had a similar soft smile on his face, though it also harbored a bit of amusement.  "Arceus, you're so Tauros-headed," Ryn murmured, sighing a little.
"I know," Clovis muttered, and he wrapped his good arm around their shoulders as best as he could, holding them close.
"I'm so sorry.  For everything, y'know...?  I've put you through so much....but....I think I finally know what I wanna do.  Thank you....so much.  I love you...."

The Answer pt.1 [One-off]
It was early in the morning when Xavier roused, his internal clock already waking him up.  It was cold out, and he didn't want to move...but he probably should.  Something felt...off.  It shouldn't be this cold......
He cracked his eyes open, spotting Ryn's peaceful face in front of his.  Ryn......his eyes shot open.  Where was Clovis?
He immediately sat up with great speed, eyes scanning the hotel room.  Clovis, Clovis...!  The Spaniard's things were gone!!  Xavier's heart tightened painfully.  He'd left them...again.
"Ryn, Ryn!!" he nearly shouted, roughly shaking the blue-haired boy awake.
"Bwuh, X-Xave....?" Ryn mumbled, slowly opening his eyes.  He lifted his head, hair horribly mussed up from the sleep.  His mind wasn't quite up to speed at the moment, but he could tell something was wrong.  "What's the matter...?"
"Clovy's gone!" Xavier squeaked, hand tightly gripping Ryn's shoulder.
Ryn squinted, then sat up as well and rubbed his eye as he looked around.  Sure enough.....
His heart sank.  After all they'd been though, Clovis still....?  If he were any more awake....he would probably cry, or almost hyperventilate, or....something.
He was snapped out of his daze by Xavier, who was practically leaping off the bed and scrambling for his clothes.  "X-Xave, what're you--"
"There's only one place left in the league, right!?  Let's go find him," Xavier said curtly.  He looked to Ryn, surprising the boy with a fierce and angry fire in his eyes.  "We've done so much.  All of us.  I'm not letting him get away again."
At that, the mental wall in front of Ryn's brain collapsed, and after a moment of staring, Ryn nodded and followed Xavier's suit.
========================================
Bypassing Victory Road had been easy enough.  A hop onto Gwen's back, and the boys were readily soaring up the mountain, to the giant castle above.  Hearts pounding in their chests, they searched for a figure that might be Clovis, hoping that he was where they thought he was.
"...Xave, d-down there...!" Ryn gasped, nudging the blond's knee to get his attention and pointing down to a speck down below.
Xavier narrowed his eyes.  It....certainly looked like it could be Clovis...but he had to wonder: how was Clovis already this close to the Elite 4's gate and you know what never mind he didn't care.  For once, he wanted to actually hurt Clovis, just a little.  All this running, all this lack of communication, and just when they'd sorted things out....he was so frustrated with Clovis!  He almost couldn't believe it'd taken this long for the anger to hit him, and yet, at the same time...
As soon as Gwen touched down, he bolted for the Steel Trainer, who simply took a step back across the gates and let the bars rise up between them.  But this wouldn't deter him, oh no.  He reached right through those bars and grabbed Clovis by the shirt, fist tightly clenched, teeth bared, and desperation painting his voice.
"Clovis, why!?"
"Xave, c-calm down!" Ryn gasped, running up beside him with a highly concerned look on his face.  "H-he can't come back through the b-bars...!"
"I know," Xavier growled.  "I just....!"
"I'm not going anywhere," Clovis finally spoke up, his voice feigning stability.  There was a slight shudder in it, much like his deceptively calm expression.  He lifted his unbroken arm - the other sat in a sling - and gently held Xavier's wrist.  ".....I guess you didn't see my note, then."
"Note?  What note!?" Xavier spat, tensing up.  He whipped his head around to Ryn.  "Did you see a note!?"
"N-no....." Ryn murmured softly, timidly shaking his head.
Clovis' face suddenly became very concerned.  "I swore I left one, right next to the alarm clock...."
"L-look, that doesn't matter," Ryn sighed, gently placing a hand on Xavier's shoulder, in an attempt to calm him down.  "Just.....t-tell us why you're d-doing this...."
Clovis pressed his lips into a thin line and looked down.  "I just....have to be sure."
"Sure of what?" Xavier asked, no longer on the attack, but still very much wary.
"Sure of...us," Clovis murmured.  He let out a sigh, his shoulders drooping slightly as his grip on Xavier's wrist tightened.  "I just.....I'm still not sure that it'll work - that I'll help make it work - and I really hate it, so I just......I have to clear up my doubts."
"H-how does this help....?" Ryn frowned slightly.
"....If I beat Iris, then we go home.  Together."
"And if you don't...?" Xavier asked warily.
Clovis' silence spoke volumes.
"....What if you're not strong enough?" Ryn asked uncomfortably.
"I'm strong enough," Clovis said confidently.  "I've spent longer on this road than I did the Kalos one....I've lost to Diantha before - on purpose - and....I learned a lot from it.  So this isn't the first time I've done this."
"Wh-what did you learn?" Xavier asked apprehensively.
Clovis examined Xavier's and Ryn's nervous faces, recalling what had happened a year ago.  Losing to Diantha, feeling empty and apathetic....living with that for a while, then finally mustering up the will to battle her again.  Winning, this time, yet not even caring about it, then immediately going on to create his beloved Steel Team....
"I changed, when I....no.  From the very beginning, since starting my journey...I've been a farce."
"....Wh-what?" Ryn blinked, his insides twisting up even more unpleasantly.
"What do you mean...?" Xavier asked, a bad feeling eating away at his gut.
"N-not a farce as in a cheater - God no," Clovis hastily corrected himself.  "Just....I wanted to be someone I wasn't, when I finally started my journey, y'know?  Someone likable, someone who wasn't....y'know.  As blank a canvas as you could get."  He shifted uncomfortably at having to recall who he used to be.  "Maybe I managed to pull it off, but I was always pretty much forcing things.  When I lost to Diantha, I wasn't sad about losing to her....it was something else.  And when I went and challenged her again and won...I just...didn't care."
He shifted his emerald gaze back up to the two people in his life he loved the most.  "It took me a really long time to realize, but....the reason for that was because I was faking who I was.  It wasn't...really me who'd lost, or who had won.  It was...someone I was pretending to be."
"So after I won, I immediately went on to train Steel-types, no celebration, nothing.  And...I guess I'd realized this subconsciously at the time, or something, but...that was me, starting to actually, y'know, become my own person, instead of just....a kid with his goals set in front of him.  I was...starting to set my own goals, instead of pursuing the ones I was told to achieve."
"I started trying to think for myself....started at a bad time, though, because of Vee...but I also met you guys through it, which was...good.  And....overall?  I'd like to think I've been rather decent at learning how to be a person, save for the whole, ah, communication thing..."
Clovis shifted uncomfortably yet again, feeling extremely exposed after baring himself to Xavier and Ryn like that.  He sheepishly looked back up at them, to try and gauge their reactions.  "Does that make sense....?"
There was a long period of silence before Xavier loosened his grip on Clovis' collar, using the very same hand to instead straighten it out.  The blond swallowed hard.  "That's....a really big lesson."
"It was," Clovis nodded, an amused smile ghosting over his lips.
"So...it's really important that you do this, then..." Ryn said softly, more of a statement than a question.
"It is," Clovis said resolutely, leaning his forehead against the bars.  "Please....I....I want you guys to be okay with me doing this."
There was only the sound of uncomfortable silence before Xavier finally spoke, looking into Clovis' eyes.  "Go."
At Xavier's approval, Clovis looked over to Ryn, now, reaching out his good arm to timidly grasp at his hand.  He silently waited for an answer; it was a while before he got one.
"....I....th-think I get it," Ryn sighed softly.  "Just....you'd b-better win, a-alright?" he frowned slightly, giving Clovis' hand an anxious squeeze.
"Thank you," Clovis smiled gently, lifting Ryn's hand and planting a kiss on the back of it.  He leaned towards the bars, his lips meeting Xavier's cheek through them.  "You'd better watch closely, alright?" he said, already backing away from them,  "I've been waiting to get here for eons."
"I-if you don't win...I'll throw you to the Hydreigon again."
"Do your best!!"

Sixth Degree of Separation [One-off]
"We…we should try."
"…..M…may—mmh….I….w-want to give it a shot."
"…..B-but….it’s…not that simple…"
Clovis stared at the two boys staring at him, uncomfortable and unable to touch his wrist to get the comfort he so sorely needed.  He had to wonder: How had he gotten in this situation?
…No…he knew exactly how he got into this situation.

Sixth Degree of Separation [One-off]
"We...we should try."
".....M...may--mmh....I....w-want to give it a shot."
".....B-but....it's...not that simple..."
Clovis stared at the two boys staring at him, uncomfortable and unable to touch his wrist to get the comfort he so sorely needed.  He had to wonder: How had he gotten in this situation?
...No...he knew exactly how he got into this situation.
A few hours ago, he and Xavier had been released from the hospital, with a prescription to not do anything strenuous, and to just get some R&R.  Ryn, completely filled with worry and unwilling to let Xavier or Clovis do much of anything, quickly got them a room to share at a nearby hotel, and though he didn't really say much to them, his anxiousness was very much palpable.
They managed to get up to their room without much trouble, and as soon as they'd set their things down, Clovis had gone over to Ryn and given him a no-armed hug, getting close and resting his chin on Ryn's bony shoulder.  His free arm was held out for Xavier, and when the blond got close, he pulled him in, too.
He was soon reassured by the feeling of arms wrapping around his torso, and sighed.
...Eventually, one of them spoke up about him wanting to go home, and...well...he didn't really have an answer.
"That is what you said the other day.....right?" Ryn asked, glancing at Xavier for confirmation.  He'd been out cold and buried in Pokemon, so he could only take their word for it.  "......I hate to ask......but what's going to happen to....us....?"
"Wh-what do you mean...?" Clovis frowned, lifting his head and feigning confusion, albeit not very well.
".....Y-you know..........is there going...to be an us....?" Ryn asked quietly, looking away and gently separating himself from the other two.
Clovis could only respond with similar silence and distance, arms tucked to his body.
Xavier, whom had chosen to be quiet and savor the company of Ryn and Clovis thus far, finally spoke up.
"I...want there to be an 'us'."
Clovis and Ryn looked over to the blond, eyebrows raised slightly.  They weren't so much surprised at his opinion...just...that he'd voiced it so straight-forwardly.
"...Can...an 'us' even work?" Clovis asked hesitantly.
"We...won't know until we try, right?" Xavier asked with a small shrug.  A rhetorical question, of course.  "We...we should try."
".....M...may--mmh....I....w-want to give it a shot," Ryn stammered eventually, looking at Clovis, now.
".....B-but....it's...not that simple," Clovis protested weakly.
"It's...not," Xavier admitted, biting his lip.  "But....I love you.  And Ryn loves you.  And we love each other.  And........you love us," he said quietly.  "So....it might not be simple, but we do love each other.  So if anything happens...?  W-we can get through it.  Together."
"How can you be so sure?" Clovis frowned.
"Because....we chased you across Unova, just for a chance to speak to you," Xavier said quietly.  "And...if you guys didn't agree that we could all date...?  You've have a problem with this."
Without much more warning, he turned to Ryn, firmly pressing their lips together without hesitation.  Ryn blushed an gave a small squeak of surprise, frozen for a few long seconds before timidly kissing back, afraid of making any wrong moves.  Admittedly, he was a little uncomfortable that Clovis was standing right next to him, too.
Clovis looked rather hurt, to say the least.  When Xavier finally broke off the kiss, Ryn put the back of his hand to his lips, eyes wide and face burning a brilliant red.
Now, Xavier turned to Clovis.  "Y-your turn," he smiled sheepishly, and moved in for the kill.
Like with Ryn, he pressed their lips together, surprising Clovis, but not to the point where he couldn't kiss back.  Ryn a foot away from him or not, he'd missed kissing Xavier, to the point where he only cared a little about their situation.  Still too timid to wrap his arms around Xavier, he made do with brushing their hands together while their lips played a simple waltz for a few precious seconds.
When they parted, Xavier pulled away and grinned sheepishly.  "Now that I've kissed you both...you two just have to kiss each other."
Clovis and Ryn both made sounds of confusion when they were suddenly pushed towards each other, finding themselves chest-to-chest, courtesy of Xavier.  Oh.  So this was his plan.  Painfully aware of Xavier's expectant stare, they stared wide-eyed at each other for a long moment, brains catching up with the situation, before finally relaxing a little and putting just a smidgen of distance between them, hands kept to themselves.
Surprisingly enough, it was Ryn who moved first, leaning just a little bit closer to Clovis.  Clovis made no such movements, however, leaning neither away nor towards the blue-haired boy, instead staring at him as if he were expecting to be scolded.
"......W......we don't have to if you don't want to...." Ryn murmured quietly, seeing Clovis' palpable discomfort.  He shot Xavier a glance.  They...didn't have to....right?
"I....." Clovis swallowed.  "I....guess I do want to..." he murmured, noticing Ryn perk up just a little at that.  "But I just....I don't know," he sighed.  "I-I'm sorry, I just...I'm still....."
"....It's alright," Ryn said softly, gently.  "I understand....."
".....Y-you do....?" Clovis asked, feeling...just a little hopeful that maybe, just maybe, someone understood him in all this.
"I-I do.  Taking leaps is....hard," Ryn nodded slowly, blinking nervously and directing his gaze to Clovis' collar.  "And....losing the ones you love....is even harder.  I-I know that, and I know that y-you know that......"
"I-I know that, too," Xavier interjected quietly.
"R-right," Ryn nodded.  "And......that can make you so scared, y-you...don't....want to do a-anything."  He swallowed, and finally looked up at Clovis, to see his reaction.  To his relief and mild surprise, Clovis was staring at him intently, giving him a small nod.
"Y-yeah..." Clovis murmured.  "So...you don't.  Because you're not brave enough....and you'd rather not risk getting hurt, than be happy again...."
"Mmh....."  Ryn gave a small sigh, and mustered up what little courage he had to reach for Clovis' hands, lightly holding them, so as not to make Clovis feel trapped.  "Clov....I-I....I want...to try being in a relationship with you and Xave.  D-despite how my last one ended....I want to try."  He looked into Clovis' eyes, feeling extremely awkward for doing so, but knowing it was necessary.  "Even if we do break up, n-no matter what......w-we won't leave you, okay...?"
Clovis was silent, unmoving with his eyes averted downwards again.  He dared to look up, into Ryn's eyes, and found them to be serious, and truthful, and...trusting.  His good arm drifted upwards, hovering around Ryn's shoulderblade.  "Promise...?"  His voice was quiet, and he could feel a small spark of hope that maybe, just maybe....like this, they could be together.
Ryn nodded, a smile pulling at his lips.  "Promise...."
Clovis pushed out air from his cheeks, his chest visibly deflating as he looked downwards and thought again.  His hand soon found a place on Ryn's back, cupping his shoulderblade, and he looked up, making eye contact with Ryn before glancing at Xavier, who nodded at him in encouragement.
"....Okay."  He looked back to Ryn, staring him in the eyes once more.  "I.......I'll trust you, then....."
Ryn let a relieved smile slide across his face, and he leaned forward again, happier than he'd felt in a long time when he felt Clovis' lips press against his.
They kissed, but calmly, chastely, and shyly, slowly relaxing the more their lips made contact.  By the time they stopped, a tension had drained from their chests, as if someone had pulled a plug and slowly let it swirl out.
Xavier was practically radiating hope by the time they started pulling away, worriedly beaming at them both like a maniac.  "So, whaddya think?"
"....I-I'd like to give it a shot," Ryn said quietly, face red once more having realized that Xavier had watched them kiss.  He looked over at Clovis expectantly, hoping for a good answer this time.
"................Sure.  Let's....let's date."

Moving to Hoenn? Traveling from Kalos? Worried about all those friends and Pokemon you’ll be leaving behind?
Ah, posh. There’s no need to worry. What if I told you you can go from Slateport to Lumiose in seconds? You step into a portal here and are there in an instant! OH YEAH. I live in Slateport and I make day trips to Lumiose. Lemme tell you how.
My sister Jane and I have a team of Abras (all hand raised by us, and plenty of them in case of sleeping problems… they are Abras, after all), a Gardevior, and one particularly bad ass Alakazam (that’s my Alakazam, Crius!) that can send you over easier than ferry or flight, and less strain on your bird Pokemon by going there yourself! I mean, have you seen how far apart Hoenn and Kalos are? That’s a lot of flying. Save some time, step into my office. I’ll make it worth your while.
We are officially open! Our stations are in Slateport by the shipyard and Lumiose on Northern Boulevard. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me! My inbox is open, and my accent is cool to listen to. Added benefits. ^_o
