“…What?” Stretching her whip further in disbelief, her grip on it became tighter. “That scruffy fool was… promoted?!” There’s no need to even point it out. She wasn’t pleased. At all. Who in their right mind would promote him, of all people?!

“Phoenix Wright – this had better be a very bad joke! Who allowed this fool to be promoted?!” Sure, he may have proven to be useful sometimes, but this… this was absurd. She refused to believe such a tale! As for reaching for the truth? That was none of her concern. “Hmph, I shall seek perfection in my own way. Regardless, it does not concern you.”

maybe he should be watching out for that whip, but he’s kind of having fun. franziska is easy to tease-- he’s starting to see why edgeworth provokes her so often, though he knows he won’t get away with anywhere near as much as the magenta prosecutor. he’s not a sibling to fran.

“i ain’t joking-- his reliability and honesty among the force finally got him somewhere.” did he just say ain’t? ohh boy. “personally i’m kind of glad about it. he’s actually getting living wages now.” a sigh, and he rolls his eyes at her next remark. 

“perfection is something to strive for but not to reach. regardless, it’s nice to see you.” something that would’ve been a joke at best just a few months earlier, but now resonates with the truth of his emotions. franziska... he wouldn’t quite call her an ally, but she’s a presence he’s not so adverse to. not anymore.

The thug slightly raises his hands in the air, confused and somewhat alarmed due to these two passive aggressive dudes in very tacky suits calling him out on his teams shit.

“Woah, woah, my man, chill out! I was just uh, tryin’ to spread the good word, y'know?”

Edgeworth’s glare deepened, figuratively looming over the team plasma member.

“Yeah. We’ve heard it. You don’t need to preach to us, sir. Go ahead and get yourself a Castelia Cone with your winnings, hm?”

The thug, realizing he’s absolutely outnumbered, opens and closes his mouth like a magikarp for a few seconds before slinking off. Once he’s out of sight, Edgeworth breaths a sigh of relief and turns to his childhood friend.

“It’s, uh, good to see you again, and I’d love to catch up, but I’ve heard that Plasma has been keeping a some records in here and I need to get at and copy them before the cavalry arrives, I’m trying to scrounge up anything legal that can be used against them as a whole, so, erm, thank you, for helping me out there, but…”

As he rambles, Miles warily glances up and down the dark alleyway.

once the plasma member skedaddles, phoenix sighs softly. of course edgeworth is busy doing great things while he’s just wandering around, fending off crime where he can. that’s just how it is... his voice is quieter when he speaks next.

“that’s fine. let me heal your pokemon first-- there’s no way you’ll get much deeper with your whole team knocked out.” phoenix takes the time to revive the creatures, then turns back to his dear friend. “if you need reinforcements, i wasn’t kidding when i said burgh sent me.”

“I heard you won another Not Guilty verdict.” Franziska’s words were clear-cut, her tone sharp. She scowled at the man before her. Whether he is called lucky or unlucky, it won’t matter once he’s crushed under her heel.

“Don’t think you’ll remain victorious forever, Phoenix Wright. I will pulverize you the next time we meet in court! You’d best remember that.”

“oh yeah, i did! the gumshoe promotion case. that one was pretty wild.” he doesn’t seem to notice franziska’s sharp tone... until he does. “ahh ha ha ha, i’m inclined to believe it.” his nervous laughter is by no means condescending. he’s speaking the truth; franziska is brilliant ( not that he’d ever SAY so ), and he’s not getting help from mia anymore. he doubts he’ll beat her as handily as he did before...

“but don’t think i’m going to make it easy on you! i’ll fight for the truth-- no matter who wins in the end.” he hasn’t forgotten what miles taught him. far from it. “i hope you’ll try for the same, franziska von karma.”

The trainer turns around, irritated, to talk this idiot out of getting into the fray, but starts for a moment.

He’d recognize that spiky hair anywhere, but what the hell is he doing here of all places?

Whatever, Edgeworth, that doesn’t matter, don’t flinch in front of the Plasma member.

“So far this idiot hasn’t been explicit in those regards, but I do appreciate the thought. After all,” Edgeworth turns to face the victor of the battle, a bitter smirk on his face, “You’re not a thief, are you?”

oops. his brain is chanting the mantra of “you screwed up” over and over again, but he pays it no heed-- he’s prepared to take on the plasma punk if need be, though he may not even have to. he relaxes from his battle stance, though his confidence does not fade. his confidence will not fade...

nono, don’t think about that. focus on the matter at hand. he’s here for a reason, he KNOWS he is.

“it would be a shame if he was. i did come here per gym leader burgh’s request... clean up any illegal activity occurring and all that.”

Edgeworth grit his teeth as his last Pokémon fainted, returning to them to their pokeball.

“C'mon, pretty boy. We beat you fair ‘n square. Pay up.”

The trainer rolled his eyes, digging the appropriate amount of cash out of his pocket and slapping it into the Plasma members hand.

“So,” Edgeworth was determined to keep pressing on, “Now that I’ve payed the toll, may I pass? I have places to be, s i r.”

“That’s not all, bud. Surely you know of team Plasma’s message..?”

Edgeworth’s glare deepened, crossing his arms and tapping his foot. If this thug tries to pull what he’s implying…

“With all due respect, that is unrelated to the topic at hand.”

phoenix is just minding his own business, navigating the streets of castelia with relative ease, when he hears the argument. team plasma? he’d heard of those thugs-- using illicit means to further their progress towards their goal... the goal of freeing pokemon from ‘foolish humans’. now, had he not been touched deeply by a certain pokemon long ago, perhaps he would’ve stood by, even agreed with the organization! but he had taken a different path, and could not let this go in good conscience. “hey! what do you think you’re--” 

“huh??” well. color him shocked. no, not just shocked-- a mixture of emotions he thought he’d buried worms its way to the surface, swirling behind his eyes before they shift into steely determination. “no way are you stealing anyone’s pokemon today, jerk!”
