A team at NECCO reviews the phrases each year, retiring some and introducing three to five new ones to reflect modern lingo.
This year, “On fleek,” “Sweet Tweet” and “Wicked cool” joined “#Love” and “Text me” among the newer sayings, mixed in with the traditional “My love” and “Be mine.”
Among the retirees this year: “Let’s read,” “Girl power” and “Live N Love.”

Watkins said the organization removes a big stumbling block for many families by covering the initial cost, which might run $150 or more for a set of 24. "It does cost a lot to get started, and that was intimidating for us," she said. "But we like it a lot. It's not nearly as difficult as everyone thinks."

Just when operators think they’ve heard every anecdote, Butterball Turkey Talk-Line operator Marge Klindera said, they take a call such as the one from a woman who had stored her turkey in a snowbank, then discovered — after a fresh snowfall — that she couldn’t find it.
“We don’t recommend that — at all,” Klindera said.
