dyslexic Archives headcannons: Jmart editon
Jon
Jon's grandma realized there was Something Up with him and took him to get tested when he was fairly young. he got offically diegnosed with Dyslexica he also got diesnogsed with Austism (or ADHD, although as ADHD had only transitioned form being ADD to ADHD in '94 if I remember correctly so it may have still been refered to as ADD, at least colloquially, regardless adhd and asd were mutrally exclusive diegnoses untill the 2010s so regardless of my belief that Jon is AuDHD, he could not have been diegnosed as such)
Jon's grandma, got the diegnosis paperwork, and decided to never tell Jon, and insted burried the diegnosis and kept it off his records. She was doing this because she beleved it was best for him, in part due to the fact that he was already being bullied and she beleved if she could just teach him to "act normal" he'd be better off than if the lable of autism or Dyslexcia, she also beleved that if Jon was seen as "normal" he'd have better opertunites in life, he'd be more likely to be hired, be more likely to get into a good school. she also partally belved there was a mustake, because Jon was far too smart to have a learning disablity, and besides, Jon reads so meny books! so there was no way that could be true.
She was doing her best, but her best lead to Jon lacking the resources he needed to thrive, internalizing the idea that his struggles were entierlly his own fault, and partally contrubuted to his inablity to devlop a work life ballance (schoolwork took significantly longer and without any acomadation Jon just pulled all nighters and never socalized)
so, despite being diegnosed, Jon was entierlly unaware of his learning disablity and audhd.
The eye informed Jon of his diegnosis randomly in season 4, which was NOT THE TIME, (he had a lot of other shit going on) and Jon just had to deal with the sudden Knolage that he was tested and diegnosed and never told about it and ALSO HE'S HAD A LEARNING DISABLITY THIS WHOLE TIME. AND AUDHD?????? He looked at that information and then agressivly shoved it away because he was dealing with Just So Much.
Jon ushally HATES reading out lould, and honestly atributed part of his post-statment exhaustion to the effort it takes to read out lould.
Jon perceives the statments as if they're writen in open dyslexic or a simalar font. he dose not realize they're not.
someone please get this man a prescription for stimulants.
the only thought Jon processes about the diegnosis after the eye tells him is "that explains a lot" and then he puts it in a box and tries to never think about it again.
Gorgie was Jon's go-to spell-check in collage, when they broke up, she gave Jon a pocket dictonary so he could look up any word he was trying to spell without her, he still had it at the end of the world.
Jon got made fun of a lot, both by friends teasing him, and by genuine assholes about how he was so verbose but couldn't spell.
Jon can generally reconzie when a word is mispelt if he's reading. He looks at it and he knows there's Something Wrong With The Word, but if you asked he could not for his life tell you what the issue is. so he's honestly a prity good proof-reader.
as an overcompensation for his struggles Jon spent years studying gramar and trying to memorize literly every rule and detail. Between that and getting teased for mispellings and puntuation errors Jon is anal retentave about writing in full sentances with perfict gramar. even in texts, it bothers him more than a little that most people don't do this (he got made fun of every time he made a typeo or missed a comma, why dose everyone else get away scott free)
Jon loves semicolons. he didn't understand them for years but the moment he figured out what they did and how they worked they became his favorite puntuation.
Jon's grades were always good, and his intelagence and drive lead him to being placed in more advanced classes, but his disablity ment his grades were good but never perfict.
the other honors students viewed jon as too stupid to be in advanced classes, but the non-honors students viewed him as too much of a nerd/too smart to be one of them, which sevearly isolated him from his peers.
it's far eaiser for Jon to write in cursive than not, it's eiaser to form words, and it's far more legable, so Jon writes almost exclusivly in cursive.
Martin
Martin is entierlly undiegnosied. His mother did not beleve in that sort of thing, she called Martin 'slow' a lot, but constantly acused him of just being lazy, or not trying hard enough. A few of Martin's teachers wanted to put him in the spechal needs program, and every time that idea was mentioned his mother gave a lecture about trying harder and not being lazy. she had a very poor view of students with disabilities.
Martin has both Dyslexica and Dysgraphia. His handwriting is bad, his spelling is worse, and his grammar isn't doing much better. He ends up with a repuation for being big and stupid due to his struggles reading, writing, and spelling.
Martin has a lot of trouble reading big blocks of text, which is part of the reason he prefers poety, the more frequent line breaks and variations in formating break up the text and make it eaiser to read.
He has a really hard time reading cursive.
Martin writes very short emails, and tends to give up on spelling and garamar at all over text. He prefers typing to handwriting, but FAR prefers a full sized keyboard to a phone.
a voice-to-text program would go a LONG way for him. (part of why he likes recording his poems, it's easier than writing them out)
Martin really dosn't like it when people make fun of his spelling/handwriting, espechally if it's in a teasing way. if someone critasises that's one thing, but teasing is another. He never tells anyone this because it feels like he'd just be ruening a joke, and it's not worth getting upset about
Martin dose everything he can to avoid having to hand-write things.
Martin keeps telling himself that he dosn't care he dropped out of school because he was too stupid for an education anyways.
Due to his mother's views, and his own undiegnosed disablity Martin has some complex and very interalized feelings about spechal needs students. He's jelous of them and dosn't understand why, he kept telling himself he dosn't want to be a spechal needs student because a learning disorder would just make his life harder, but he also sees the acomadatons they get and can't help but wonder if he woudn't be so stupid if he had acess to the same resources. His mother also trained him to view spechal needs students as lazy, which is a view he inteintonally distanced himself from.
he cannot read his own handwriting an annoying amount of the time.
Martin HATES the fieling system at the archives because the string of numbers is A GODDAMN NIGHTMARE to deal with.
Martin ushally writes in all caps, espechally when it's something he knows he'll need to re-read later, or if he's writing something for someone else to read. When he's not paying attention or not putting an exessive amount of effort into his handwriting, he ushally writes in a horrific abomanation of capital and lowercase letters.
Martin has a lot of trouble reading historical documents, or things written by americans because the diffrences in spelling and gramar trip him up. He has beef with the word "color" WHY DO AMERICANS SPELL IT THAT WAY??
Martin dosn't really bother with spelling or gramar over text and uses abrivations to avoid spelling words he dosn't want to spell.
Martin writes his y's in cursive and it's the only letter he dose that to, because in math class his Xs and Y's looked identical so he started writing the Y in cursive
to this day Martin is only about 60% sure he knows how commas work.
BOTH.
Jon was informed, by the beholidng, that Martin's learning disablities just a bit before the unkown, and proceads to feel AWFUL because he constantly critasized Martin's handwriting, spelling, and grammar
Jon and Martin should NOT be allowed to proof-read eachoters work they will NOT notice the errors.
when both Jon and Martin are writing in the same style (not cursive, not caps-lock) their writing is weridly simalar in a few very spusific ways. Martin's is less legable because he's also dysgraphic, but they both blend their Hs with other letters espechally ts which will often result in them writing "T-e" insted of "the" or "t|ere" insted of "there" Rs also tend to blend, most often the R and E will blend to one letter. they also both have a horible habit of switching writing styles midway though words and sentances when not writing in their perfered style. Martin randomly catpalizes letters, and Jon will randomly write a letter in cursive.
their indivual copeing mechanisums often clash, which did NOT help the situation in the archives season 1.
Neither of them know how to process the fact that they apparently have a learning disalbity. so they don't. although jokes about spelling grammar and handwriting sting a lot less when they're comeing from someone who gets it, so they end up getting more comftorable teasing eachoter about it (although it's still uncomftable--espechally for martin--if anyone else brings it up)

I don't think I will ever stop being bitter about how the fandom treats Duke Thomas.
Either he's a sentient prop, a sounding board for the "main four" batboys or he doesn't exist at all.
Duke is a stubborn, smart, snarky little menace (literally every comic he's a main character in). He's got a life outside the Bats, he was literally part of a city wide Robin movement (We Are Robin), he's got great bonds with Cass and Damian (Outsiders 2019 and Robin War), implied to have solid bonds with Steph and Tim (Detective Comics and Urban Legends), doesn't give a flying fuck about Dick (it's hilarious, see Urban Legends) and roasts Jason all the time for no reason (also hilarious, New Talent Showcase 2017)
Bruce utterly adores him and is constantly talking him up/trying to bond with him (All Star Batman/Cursed Wheel, Outsiders, Batman 2011, Urban Legends and Batman and the Signal)
He's respected by seasoned heroes like Black Lightning and Katana, even antiheroes such as Lady Shiva like him. The man handled a Green Lantern ring, chilled and comforted a semi possessed Gotham Girl, and took on the Riddler as a lil kid.
Duke is complex, funny, strong and overall brilliant, it's crazy to me that people just brush him off as "the normal one."

i am an another anon, but maybe bruce wayne trying to take care of baby dick grayson? please :)
treat yourself with some batdad and his baby
this is more of a de-age situation rather than "bruce taking dick in as a baby" because, if taking account their canon-ish ages, i can't really imagine a freshly young adult bruce willingly adopting a recently orphaned baby while he himself is already in the path of becoming batman.
which gave me this idea of an elseworlds concept where bruce rejects the path of becoming batman in favor of taking care of baby dick and becoming a glorified teen parent instead.
